last week i weighed myself and i was 125 pounds but a week later i weigh 129 pounds i dont understand this sudden weight gain ive actually increased my physical activity. COuld it be because im due on my period. Do many of you get a 4 pound weight gain the week before?

I usually gain about 2-5 pounds when I'm about to get my period. Water retention is typical around that time, so it's nothing to worry about. The body can fluctuate in weight by about 10 pounds at any given point during the day so just try to look at your average instead of putting too much emphasis on the number itself each time you weigh yourself.

I'm the same way.  Usually a 3 to 5 pound gain that week, which happens to be right now!  So do what i do. Stay on track, keep exercising and don't weigh yourself that week. i know when i do, it only discourages me.

There are ways to keep weight-gain down during a period...   The things to avoid are sugars, processed starches, artificial sweetners... go more with vegetables, wholegrains, proteins etc.  Drink plenty of water, avoid alcohol like the plague.   Works for me anyway.

I notice the gain too but, like gadzooks said, I think it's water retention more than actual gain.  It's harder to keep on track with food, too, since a lot of us girls get cravings but if you hang in there it always feels better the next week when the numbers go down again.

if your not giving into cravings trhat week it is just water. forget it. dont weigh yourself until two days after your period stops, its discouraging and not a real wieght, just water. thats why so many things advertise about bloating during your period- its a fact but it goes away. just one more fabulous thing about being a woman...

YES, YES, YES.  Ugh.

YEP. I had this same delima this month... put me in a real funk until my boyfriend said ... "aren't you getting close to taking the week of white pills?" I felt way better after that when I realized it was just the water.

Happens to me too.  I just get through it by reminding myself that if I keep on target, after it's over the water weight will drop off and I should be seeing a pretty new number on the scale, a little lower than before the bloating started.
