Is this weight gain possible?

Ok so I have been gradually increasing my calories for the past few months and for 3 days now I have been reaching 1900 (before I was on 1600-1700).

In the past 5days however I have gained 0.5kg (about a lb). Is this possible considering my dietician told me I would need 450cals extra for a whole week to gain 0.5 kg?

I know that the whole point of increasing my intake is to gain as I'm underweight, but this seems to be too fast considering the amount I am currently consuming and I feel like I'm the exception to the rule and can gain weight on low amounts. I just want to be able to trust my body so I feel more comfortable in increasing my cals.

I'm so worried that I will keep gaining loads of weight on this amount of calories :(

I don't know if this has anything to do with it but i suffer from constipation and usually take senna tablets every 3 days or so to move my bowels but have decided to stop taking them (I've heard your system becomes reliant on them?)and consequently have only had a BM once in the past 5days.

its a pound. for God sake. you've been posting for ages about your ED and your wish to gain. its a pound. a pound in a week? thats not fast.

come on. step up to the mark and decide you want to recover. most people here are eating 2500 PLUS

jeez, calm down

It could be a combination of constipation, water weight, and real weight gain. If you've been restricting your body will try and store everything it can initially (I gained 10lb in two weeks!). This will even out and your metabolism will catch up; although this might seem weird, the best way to do this is to increase your calorie intake. And, seeing as you are gaining on 1900, you might as well eat more anyway :)

Try not to worry, this won't continue forever!

Thanks for your reply :) I haven't been restricting for a few months now but hopefully my metabolism will speed up soon.

And yeah, I never thought of it like that. I definitely am trying to increase so hopefully I will get to a higher intake where I can gain gradually.

Thanks for the reassurance

Naturally with non ed or people who have not restricted their bodies fluctuate around 5 pounds do to different reasons. I understand the fears and anxiety though. I know inpatient when they weighed us daily there would be a day up 1.5 pounds and then the next day down .5. My point is the focus needs to be a trend. When you increase like you are your body will hold onto water and still have a slow metabolism. Till you get to a better range and adjusted I would stay off the scale. Try to focus on the goal and that you need to gain. It can be a hard mindset to change but with continued hard worlk hopefully it can be done

It is still very likely you are still starving and your metabolism is not yet rebounded from your restriction. Push your calories up.

What is your weight? If your weight is still as low as it was, you need to go to a hospital.

If you do things correctly, very reasonable is 2lbs per week. Only 1900 cals? You must be a very tiny person for anyone to recommend that low cals. What u should do is raise the cals 250 every two weeks that you see no gain. To get bigger, need to eat bigger. If you just want to gain weight, then eat , eat , eat! If you want to gain weight, but mostly muscle weight, then eat "smart" and every 3 hours for a total of 6 meals a day. And exercise, find a regime/plan and stick to it and u will grow. Be patient, it takes a bit of time, the key is eating and persistence in your regime.

no. your scale was just kidding.

1900 calories sounds too low for gaining. What is your present weight/height/age?

If you have been relying on laxitives, your body will need time to regulate itself. Constipation is normal after weening onself off of laxitives.  Be patient.  Make sure you are eating a well rounded diet

Mostly, that is not a signifigant weight gain in that time frame...your goal is to gain, you should be pleased with that..and hopefully, you will continue to succeed over your disease.

I'm 18, I now weigh 87lbs and am 5'5".

Lala - I had a brief inpatient stay but am back at home now under doctor supervision.

I am planning on bumping my calories up to 2200 this week.

I know that my aim is to gain, I just feel anxious gaining on such a low amount because I worry that when I've gained enough I will have to eat a really low amount to maintain my weight.

You are at a very low weight that is concerning. You need to gain asap or this is going to be a crisis situation. There were days inpatient where I would gain more then a pound in a day. They still would increase calories because they knew parts were water and what a body needed to recover. I understand trust me the fears you have but once you get to a healthy weight which is awhile away your body will become stable. When was your ip stay? Are you in any op treatment other then the doctors that could support you?I encourage you to increase your calories like others stated

why dont you just bump your flippn calories up to 2500. for GOD sake. ABBI stated it perfectly. you are at a dangerously low weight and you ARE PROLONGING IT.

GOD almighty. do you have any idea how triggering it is for everyone attemptin to gain here on 2500-3000-3500 cals to see you posting your weight and you are maintaing that behaviour by dawdling along on 1900 cals.

how many ppl have to say it to you? maybe you'll collapse first? i dunno. but you need to pull your head out your bottom and decide for real if you want this disease not to kill you.

Um ok, I appreciate your honesty. I didn't mean to trigger anyone at all, I'm sorry. But several people asked my weight so I told them.

Like I said, today I am bumping my calories up to 2200 and then will increase it to 2500 - I do not have "my head up my bottom".

My inpatient stay was at the beginning of last week. I only stayed for 3days as circumstances changed, but I am having check ins with the dietician at the hospital every week and see a therapist every 2 weeks.

I wish you the very best luck in your struggle to regain your health. I know it is not easy and that you are torn between intellectually knowing and wanting to gain weight and emotionally, letting the disease scare you when the scale moves up a notch. Please remember, either YOU will win this battle or the Disease will win.  IF you win, you live. If your disease wins, you die. You are literally fighting for your survival and I know it's not easy...and I know it's not easy to take other's advice - or even your own .

I am surprised, though, that your dietician has you on such low amount of calories.  Can you tell me what exactly you are eating? For example, what did you eat yesterday, for breakfast, snack, lunch, snack, dinner, snack? You main concern now is getting a healthy MIND so you can have a healthy body! Don't think about the calories you are eating, just eat! Don't think about burning off those calories..don't htink about anything but what your plans are for the future..and how you want to live to experience your goals and dreams.

Most dieticians who do not have ED experience will have no clue what you actually need. Furthermore if you don't want to gain on such a low amount you need to kick your calories up to where they are supposed to be.

Your low weight makes you a liability, however, and we cannot be responsible for you nor give you advice that may well lead to harm. Thus, you need to pay attention: push your calories up to 2500 or more, and seek out a new IP facility.
