Weight Gainers-What Did YOU Eat Today?? 9/3-9/17


I am taking the liberty of starting a new thread.  This thread is for those of you looking to actively gain weight for whatever reason.

Requirements- If you are a male you need to eat at least 3000 calories, females must eat 2500-this is so that your body can begin to now only gain weight, but also for your internal organs to begin to recover, this takes fuel/calories.

It is NOT suggested that you excercise while underweight.  Excercsie is often an addicition seen with those with eating disorders. Try to stop cold turkey, IF you excercise, 2500/3000 is NOT enough.  You are only harming yourself+prolonging the illness by excercising.

If you are struggling to reach the necessary amount, and we all did, then please post a seperate thread w/ questions.  It is harmful for ppl to see posts that are under the food reuirement amount.  There are suggestions on this forum ontop regarding higher calorie+denser foods that should be incorporated to aid in reaching calorie goals.

A new thread will be started every two weeks, anyone can start the thread when the time comes.  Please start the thread by copying the initial post or two.

(copied from previous thread)-I am copying the many times copied thread, "What did you eat today?" in hopes of helping some of those who are just starting to gain and have no clue what to eat. I know that when I began weight recovery, I was eating tons of low-cal foods just because that's what I was used to. I learned the hard way that dense foods are essential to weight gain when you have high caloric requirements (at one point I needed 4500 cal to maintain my weight on BEDREST). Perhaps newbies can get some ideas if we post our weight gain meal plans! Even if you're not gaining anymore, grab an old one and post it!:]
Please note that every body is different and some will need more or less calories than others to gain. This thread is just so that you can get an idea of what you need.
Oh, and yes, I'm breaking the "no calories, no portions" rule, since it is pretty helpful in this case. If you want to post cals/portions you can. I just ask that you don't post if you're not eating enough, though as this is a weight gain thread, I would hope none of you are undereating.;]
I'll start....
Breakfast (875 cal)*

  • 1/2 cup oatmeal (150) cooked with
  • 1 cup evaporated whole milk (300)
  • 1 mashed banana (100)
  • 2 tbsp peanut butter (200)
  • 1 tbsp ground flaxseed and cinnamon to taste (50) 
  • 1 hard-boiled egg (75 cal)

Morning Snack (300 cal)*

  • 1/4 cup mixed nuts (200)
  • 1/4 cup dried apricots (100)

Lunch (660 cal)*

  • 1/4 cup rice cooked in 1 cup chicken stock (300) and
  • 1/2 cup canned or cooked chickpeas (145) and
  • 1/3 cup shredded cheese (150) and
  • 1/4 cup each onion, peppers, and tomato (30) cooked with
  • 1 tbsp olive oil and curry powder to taste (120)

Afternoon snack (390 cal)*

  • 1 serving baby carrots (35)
  • 1/4 cup hummus (155)
  • 1/4 cup mixed nuts (200)

Dinner (875 cal)*

Evening snack (480)*

  • 1 cup plain whole milk yogurt (180)
  • 1/2 cup homemade granola (300)

About 3600 calories :]

 An example of when i was a ctively gaining weight, i was 25 and sedentary (female)-

B: Bagel, 1.5tbspns PB, yogurt, HB egg, apple, trail mix~750

S: cereal w/ milk+trail mix~360

L: 2 slices WW w/ cheddar, avocado, +sweet potato, Fage 2%, a Pepperidge Farm cookie, a plum, carrots ~700

S: ice c ream w/ trail mix~250

D: veg salad w/ trail mix+tbspn alomd butter mixed in, chicken nuggets, corn on the cob~460

S: apple, yogurt, 1/2 Chocolate Candy Bar ~410

Total ~2930

One more day til FRIDAY!!!!!

agru: glad you had a great day! you're correct, i'm not recovering from an eating disorder, but i'm borderline underweight (def. underweight for my build) due to illness and i haven't had my period for 8 months. so that's why i'm trying to gain. that being said, i have never been overweight, and until i became sick i enjoyed food a lot! i am a psychology major specializing in abnormal and have a mother who overcame ed, so i am sensitive to the subject.

speaking of mama, she gave me this pearl of wisdom today when i was venting to her about the food baby i've been carting around for the last week (haha!):

"Think about the people in your life that mean the most to you and the boys you've dated. were their appearances a factor in how much you loved them?"

The answer is NO! yeah my mama speaks da truth! food baby schmood baby!

Anywhooo, onto today's eatz:

Breaking my fast: Fage (130) with 1/3 cup oats (100), jam (35), A to Buttah (150), crumbled zbar (120) plus a kiwi on the side (50) = 585

Snackage: Pumpkin spice latte!!!! (170) plus an apple with pb (275) = 445

*myvalentine: my school serves Peet's coffee, which is awful. however i can tolerate their lattes. there is ONE cart on campus that serves Seattle's Best, and i do make the trek there when the occasion calls - sooooooo good!

Lonch: BBQ Tofu (170) with a large salad of roasted zucchini, black beans, tomatoes, and corn (210) plus tortilla chips (170) and lots o' salsa (30). Ended with some dried nanners (120) = 700

Dinner:  2 pieces spinach lasagna (340) plus applesauce (70) with granola (140) = 550

Plans for latah:

Snack 1: Toast (200) with guac (don't hate! 120) = 320

Snack 2: Dark Chocolate (200) with AB (100) and a glass of milk (135) =435

=3035!!!!!!

September 17:

Breakfast - Oatmeal cooked with a banana, and topped with some cinnamon. Strawberries and 1 cup soy milk.

Snack - Protein shake (soy milk, vanilla yogurt, strawberries, banana, blueberries and whey powder).

Lunch - Almond butter sandwich on 12 grain bread with some carrots and chocolate soy milk.

Snack - Another almond butter sandwich on 12 grain bread

Dinner - 2 pieces of shepherd's pie

Snack (will be) - Another protein shake (soy milk, vanilla yogurt, strawberries and whey powder).

Unfortunately, I had a rough start to my day. I had a break down this morning while preparing lunch for school and went totally out of control infront on my mom. This has not happend for quite some time. Without going into detail, I said some pretty hurtful things and I ended up not being able to attend school today (she wouldn't let me go). Atleast we managed to talk things out while on a walk to the store after the incident. Even though I am so glad she always manages to somehow forgive me for my ridiculous actions, it still continues to confuse me on why I get that way. I do not like it at all.

I'm here to confess my love.... my love of COOKIES!!! There has been a breakthrough moment at my house this morning. I thought to myself, "hmm, why don't I bake some cookies for my aunt and uncle today? that way I can possibly eat ONE cookie but feel obliged to give the rest away and stay safe from eating them all", but THEN I thought to myself "well why shouldn't I eat them? they won't know how many I baked in the first place and I'm sure they'll appreciate the effort anyway"

So guess what guess what? I ate some cookie dough (<3) AND 3 cookies just now. And it was aweeesoommme. They're called kiwi biscuits (it's a New Zealand thang.. they're just chocolate chip cookies I suppose but with the addition of sweetened condensed milk) and they're so yummy. I'm just over the moon happy because I don't feel guilty at all! AND it wasn't even a planned snack or anything, it was in fact my SECOND snack this morning (what a rebel)

Anywhoms sorry for the rant, I may be back to post my whole days eats later if I remember to write everything down!

i hope everyone is doing well, remember, if u have NOT gained this past week, raise ur cals but at elast 250!!

im having issues, i never thought this would happen to me, but twice this week, im not going to say binge, but i ate large amounts in a very lose sort of frenzied way, both times after having eaten something rt b4 and not really feeling hungry, i just didnt stop.  im not happy and not enjoying this 1 bit.

PITT-hi! so true, my exbf, yea, i thoguht he was great looking but i was more drawn to him, personality, what we liked to do.  some ppl may have thoguht he was ugly 4 all i know, i didnt, bc of the personality, not his weight!  yea, lack of period, im taking pills, not bc, hormones, to induce it 4/yr, i should get it in about 2 wks i think.  18.5, slightly underweight, yea, ur in college so bound to be acative, i sit at a desk, it just makes it osychologically tough!  psych major? awesome! gl!

B: Homemade pumpkin waffle (220), banana (100), protein shake (230), coffee with a bit of milk and sugar (80) - TOTAL 630 cal

S: Almonds (200), apple (90) - TOTAL 290 cal

L: PB & J (470), yogurt (100), dried apricots (100) - TOTAL 670 cal

S: Energy bar (270), more yogurt lol (150), with some granola sprinkled on top (140) - TOTAL 560 cal

S: Milk (90) ughhh all we have is skim milk >.< and some celery dipped in PB (150) - TOTAL 240 cal

D: Chicken curry (220) on a bed of white rice (180), side of green beans with a bit of butter added (120) - TOTAL 520 cal

S: Chocolate milk (200), a couple small cookies (120) - TOTAL 320 cal

TOTAL ≈ 3230 cal

My god, I really went nuts with the dairy today!! lol

ok...........i'll be honest. not feeling very positive right now. I just ate a MASS ammount of food, and feel like ive gained about a MILLION pounds, all in my stomach too!! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH . it's worse-i WANT to eat. for the first time since who knows HOW long, i REALLLLY want to eat. but, i just hate what eating does to me. i bloat and feel like i gain several pounds every time i do...it's SUCH a trigger for me:( sorry to be a downer, gotta be real here

crazy-I'm sorry to hear that hun. But, try not to think of it soley as a bad thing.......it sounds like you've been able to learn a lot and do well there before in the past. you have been doing well, but maybe your body just needs more time to rest and rebuild.

pitt-arent moms just the best sometimes? i know i would be NOWHERE exept maybe the hospital right now without my mom:) yes, I can relate...........my school has a TERRIBLE coffee shop too............you'd think they'd be able to train the student baristas better:P

pettite-wow........................are you living my life?!?!?! I can ENTIRELY sympathize with you. I have had days EXACTLY like that.......freakout at breakfast (screaming, crying, TOTAL 2-year-old tantrum) and then not going to school. it's shameful, embarassing, and everything else. afterwards, i look back, and it was like an out of body experience. right now though, being underweight, your emotions are WAAAAAAAAY out of whack. NOT that you are crazy, but that your hormones are not right because of low body fat in the brain. just a biological fact:) it's ok, your mom will understand, and i GARUNTEE that she loves you NO LESS!!

L: SF hot choc w/milk (180); hummus pot and carrots (180); roast beef lunch meat (140)=500

S: 7 grain hot cereal w/blackberries(200), more blackerries on the side (70)=270

D: leftover ziti w/spinach (ziti, gorgonzola, cherry tomatoes, lotza spice) w/ added chicken breast (450); large pear (120)=570

S: kiwi straberry juice (150); 2 c milk (240); 2 c Kashi Heart to Heart (280); 1/2 banana (60); zucchini muffin (190); soynuts (140)=1050...........wow=2970 total

B: oatmeal (banana,oats, soy milk, dates, peanutbutter) topped with some greek yoghurt and shredded coconut and coconut flavoured peanuts... yummy dont fear coconut no more!

S: greek yoghurt with random mix pretzels, corn puffs, dried paw paw and an apple

L: vietnemese crab salad (canned crab, thanks betty) with rice noodles, asian dressing and of course the salad....  shame no corriander in the house.... its growing though! yay!

S1: toast with hummus, egg spinach and grilled tomato

S2: glass of buttermilk, some fair trade organic cocoa (deeeeeelicious)

D: wanted something different at work so pre made a sweet potato, broccoli and pea soup with rice (and random flavourings eg honey and soy,ginger, chiili and garlic)

 

 

So a weekend 'unsupervised' coming up... need to make it a good one eating wise!

B: 1/2 cup oats cooked with 1 cup skim milk + 1 tbs sultanas + 1 tbs honey

S: 1 choc chip muesli bar + 1 mandarin

L: 2 sushi rolls (cooked tuna and avocado + salmon and avocado) + 1 seaweed inari

S: 1 large slice of carrot cake with icing (sooooo good...) + 1 apple

D: Big bowl (maybe 2.5 cups?) of vegetarian pasta (tomatoes, spinach, olives, chilli) + 2 tbs parmesan cheese + 1 glass of white wine

S: Can't decide between full fat yoghurt and 1-2 snack size chocolate bars (bit size)... maybe both!

Today...

B: Homemade bio yoghurt with crunchy peanut butter, flaxseed, branflakes and chopped banana.

S: Apple

S: Cappuccino, oatcakes with dairylee cheese, carrot, celery with PB and raisins.

S: Hot chocolate

D: Omelette (eggs, butter, chorizo, onion, cheese, salt, pepper), big salad, and a chunk of seeded bread

S: Magnum, orange.

Overnight: 3 bottles fresubin 2kcal

valentine: You are exactly right, it really is a total out of body experience and that is the only way of putting it. I wouldn't have thought of a better way to put it myself! You know, it is funny how you are explaining this to me because that is exactly how my mom explained it to me. She always tells me that she knows I wouldn't do this if I was my "normal" self and that it is probably because my hormones are out of whack and do not know what to do.

PS - I am glad I am not the only one that this has happend to. This is the first time she did not allow me to go to school because of it, and I was really upset. Although, I am glad she did that because I would have broke down at school. Anyway, I appreciate your reply.

Pitt: I hope you have a good weekend full of all sorts of yummyful eats! Cannot wait to see your menu when you return (I always look forward to your menu posts).

September 18th:

Breakfast - Kashi GoLEAN Crunch! (oh how I missed my beloved Kashi GLC!) & Peanut Butter Puffins cereal mixed with vanilla yogurt, banana slices, raspberries and a spoonful of PB. Cup of Chai green tea.

Snack - Annie's honey bunny grahams and a whole lotta raisins!

Lunch - Piece of leftover shepherd's pie, a peach and cup of soy milk

Snack - Brown rice cake topped with the rest of the banana from this morning mashed up and then drizzled with a little honey.

Dinner - Meatloaf, macaroni/pasta salad and corn

Snack - A few handfuls of almonds - I just randomly felt like some of them before my snack.

Snack - TBD (most likely my protein shake - soy milk, vanilla yogurt, strawberries and whey powder).

I had a rather lovely day today (unlike yesterday). I did alot of food shopping with my mom and got loads of yummy snacks and goodies to be devoured (deep chocolate vita muffins, anyone?! =P). I just had a fun time (yes, FOOD shopping is FUN!). Anyway, hope everyone has a great, fun FOOD filled weekend!
