Weight Gainers: What Did YOU Eat Today? 9/18-10/2
I am taking the liberty of starting a new thread. This thread is for those of you looking to actively gain weight for whatever reason.
Requirements- If you are a male you need to eat at least 3000 calories, females must eat 2500-this is so that your body can begin to now only gain weight, but also for your internal organs to begin to recover, this takes fuel/calories.
It is NOT suggested that you excercise while underweight. Excercsie is often an addicition seen with those with eating disorders. Try to stop cold turkey, IF you excercise, 2500/3000 is NOT enough. You are only harming yourself+prolonging the illness by excercising.
If you are struggling to reach the necessary amount, and we all did, then please post a seperate thread w/ questions. It is harmful for ppl to see posts that are under the food reuirement amount. There are suggestions on this forum ontop regarding higher calorie+denser foods that should be incorporated to aid in reaching calorie goals.
A new thread will be started every two weeks, anyone can start the thread when the time comes. Please start the thread by copying the initial post or two.
(copied from previous thread)-I am copying the many times copied thread, "What did you eat today?" in hopes of helping some of those who are just starting to gain and have no clue what to eat. I know that when I began weight recovery, I was eating tons of low-cal foods just because that's what I was used to. I learned the hard way that dense foods are essential to weight gain when you have high caloric requirements (at one point I needed 4500 cal to maintain my weight on BEDREST). Perhaps newbies can get some ideas if we post our weight gain meal plans! Even if you're not gaining anymore, grab an old one and post it!:]
Please note that every body is different and some will need more or less calories than others to gain. This thread is just so that you can get an idea of what you need.
Oh, and yes, I'm breaking the "no calories, no portions" rule, since it is pretty helpful in this case. If you want to post cals/portions you can. I just ask that you don't post if you're not eating enough, though as this is a weight gain thread, I would hope none of you are undereating.;]

Hi all! For a while I wasn't making 2500, but strangely enough I find myself at 2700+, without even really officially 'deciding' on that number. I'm aiming for 3000 today, because I lost (quite insignificantly, but still) eating 2700-2850. Hopefully it was just a fluke and my weight will rise dramatically like it usually does during weight-gain procedure :)
And agru, I hear you on being sick of it - I just want to get this over with! Which is why I'm not sticking with 2700 even if it was a fluke. If 3000 is 'too much' then so be it.
Breakfast: Fruit and nut muesli, and a supplement drink. = 720
Morning: An apple, a cup of soymilk. Slice of fruit loaf with peanut butter = 320
Lunch: Avocado sandwich on wholemeal bread. Baked beans. Salad, almonds, carrot, and corn. = 610
Afternoon: Bran cereal, puffed kamut cereal in a cup of soymilk. Ground flax and chopped dates = 360
Dinner: Soup made of blended lentils, sweet potato, pumpkin, and onion. 2 pieces of tomato on toast. Broccoli. Dried figs. = 600
Night snack: Oats refrigerated in 2% strawberry yoghurt and ground flax = 390
Only when there are nothing but green bananas in the house do I realise their importance in my weight-gain menus. Today required a lot of effort, haha.
tessa-EDs rationalize, "rationalize", that is. and im not at a bmi of 17, did u mean mashed? im about 18.5 as of last week, what ive been maintaining but decided was too low.
ERIN-hi, im sorry, i dont recognize u, waht r ur stats? keep up the great work.
Agru: It's fine, I'm new! My goal set by the doctor is approximately 19, so not too far to go, 7lbs. I lost half a pound when I weighed in today, which was a little discouraging; I'd not been going over 2500 for the past few weeks and then when I finally stopped stalling and DID, I stopped gaining. But it should be OK now that I have increased.
I've seen on a couple of posts that you've been having a hard time with everything. I hope you are feeling better :) Thanks for saying hi!
ERIN-hi, im not at a bmi of 20 but im still 100% behind the belied that that is a good baseline to go by for a GW, anything under and u r at a greater risk for health probs, not getting ur period, and a relapse.
gl!
Tessa - did you mean me? Thank you for the lovely words anyway :) My BMI is currently in the low 16s, but I have no intention of staying here!

yes i did sorry for confusing things h xx
My wisdom teeth are rupturing at the moment so eating is sooo painful - it's very frustrating, makes things a lot harder, kind of like an excuse to eat less...not that I'll take it of course but ED would love me to.
Today will be:
Breakfast: 44g of oats with water (first time trying oatmeal! I'm not so good with creamy stuff so if I don't like it I'll substitute with cereal) + 2 scrambled eggs with butter and one slice of wholemeal toast.
Lunch: Chicken Salad sandwich + pringles + something worth 300 kcals, probably a candy bar or flapjack.
Dinner: Spaghetti Bolonaise + Chocolate muffin dessert
Snack: Muller corner chocolate fudge yogurt
That's about 2500.
It's the first time I have had a different breakfast in the whole of my recovery - I'm really nervous for some reason, even though it's the same calories.
Today was a better 'unsupervised' day than yesterday and now my boy is back home and we are having home made fish and chips for dinner :) Big breakthrough with him tonight - when he got home and was giving me a cuddle he said for the first time since i got my ED i am starting to feel like a 'normal person' and he can now see that i have really been making an effort and that he is proud of me. You have no idea how hard i have worked to get these words from him so am overjoyed!! Unfortunately there is still a tiny ED voice that is chipping in with 'that means you are getting fatter' type words... IGNORE!!!
Food for today:
B: 1/2 cup oats cooked with 1 cup skim milk, 1 tbs sultanas, 1 tbs honey, 1 banana (the banana is a new addition)
Went for an hour long walk (not brisk just normal) in the sun after breakfast - felt so good!
L: Toasted wrap with 2 slices of jarlsberg cheese, asaparagus spears and 1/3 avocado + 1 big cup of pine orange juice + 1 tub full fat yoghurt with 5 strawberries
S: 1 choc chip muesli bar + 1 apple + 6 honey coated macadamia nuts
D: 2 beer battered flathead fillets + 1.5 cups oven fries + salad (spinach, tomato, asparagus)
S: 2 scoops of chocolate/vanilla ice cream in a cone
I can keep going and beat this!!! :)
Oh Emma one of my wisdom teeth is trying to come through to, they can be quite painful. I get nervous trying out new things as well, I think its because your moving out of your comfort zone a little. Hope your enjoy the oatmeal!
Erin: Looks good ![]()
Yesterday:
Breakfast: Porridge ( oats and milk), with raisins, plum, blueberries and soya nuts
Snack: Yogurt with omega seed mix and apple
Lunch: 2 slices thick ww bread toasted with chicken, cheddar cheese, spinach, cucumber, tomatoes, peppers and mayo.
Snack: Cheese soya crisps with some nuts. Fortisip
Dinner: Chicken Korma with brocolli, leeks, cabbage and wholegrain rice
Snack: Milkshake
Snack: Tub of fage with sliced almonds, strawberries and a Pecan Pie Nakd bar. Fortisip
bluid, when i read the first part of your post im like oh no! than continued and was phew!.... haha you scared me. good luck with the intuitive eating. its great isn't it although do make sure your over. i have been going heaps well with mine althoug i still do it to make sure i eat every meal, so its kinda like intutive but not entirely yet because intuitive is all about eating when you feel you should but you can't do that with weight gain really.
erin, thats wonderful news about what your boyfriend said. bananas are wonderful aren't they? idont remember who said it but i cant go a day without banana's. my dad eats like three in one hit so have a hidden stack in my room ;P
heres the eats for today (prepare for the word grilled):
B: OVER-JOY OATMEAL - (oats, soy milk, with banana grilled in maple syrup) topped with frozen blueberries, toasted pecans and shredded coconut in excess maple syrup, about 100 calories worth of maple syrup on top - ermm went overboard there!
S: apples grilled with cinnamon sugar, greek yoghurt, topped with some granola and walnuts
L: wholemeal lepinja (about the size of my foot and im a 12!) grilled with turkey, spinach, brie and strawberries! amazingly delicious! - try it i dare you, the recipies are everywhere!
D: heaping of veal and noodle stirfry with random sauces and vegetables (trying to clear the fridge)
S: peanutbutter on thick toast, glass of soy milk
Betty: Yeah, toothache is like hell on earth, possibly one of the worst pains ever.
The porrige (oatmeal) was ok but I ended up having the cereal instead because I was afraid I would feel sick after a whole bowl of oats - that happens to me a lot with 'creamy' stuff. I don't think I'm lactose intolerant but any more than a tiny bit of dairy products and I feel really sick and ill.
Liney: Haha, that's what I was going for;) And your oatmeal is not overboard, oh my goodness it looks scrumptious! You come up with the most delectable looking concoctions!
Agru: Thanks for the advice and warnings! I know I need to be very careful about not letting Ed creep back in by thinking, "I don't feel hungry, my body must be telling me it doesn't need anything right now!" But honestly, I think my appetite is back full force (I forgot I ever used to get this hungry!), so I'm pretty sure I'll be eating plenty! And if my weight gain stops or I lose, then it's straight back to counting. (Although I weighed this morning and I'm up 2 more pounds!)
And no, I didn't have am snack because I was at an appointment with my nutritionist (horrible excuse, I know!), but I had an afternoon snack instead, which I don't normally have. Plus my schedule has been all wacky with school, homework, etc. Once I finally get on a roll it's hard to tear myself away 'just to eat', so I end up pushing it off and then it gets late and I end up cramming!
Mashed: I know what you mean about the two 'voices'! I have been longing to start eating intuitively, but I told myself it would be my reward for reaching my goal weight! So it's a great incentive! I actually have like, 2 more pounds to go, but my nutritionist and I agreed that things have been going so well that I could try it out now and see how it goes! It sound like you're fighting really hard, keep it up!
September 18:
B: Whole wheat english muffin + strawberry cream cheese, 4 oz yogurt + ground flaxseed + granola, cottage cheese + raisins, a few whole almonds
S: Chicken salad (chicken, miracle whip, onion, raisins, sunflower seeds) w/ crackers, orange juice
L: Pb cucumber sandwich (2 slices bread, 2 Tbsp honey-roasted pb, chopped cukes -sounds weird I know, but it was delicious!), apple, 4 oz yogurt, 1 snack bag kettle corn, 1 glass milk
S: Mini reeses cup
D: Roast venison cooked in italian dressing, 1 large baked potato + butter + ketchup, 1/4 cup corn, cooked broccoli and carrots, 1 glass milk
S: Cup of praline pecan ice cream
Hi everyone! im glad that everyone is progressing!
I gained about .5-1lb this past week NOT consistantly eating 2500+, thinking, i weigh more than most here, i dont need it...i just feel lost in that im not part of the maintenace thread but i weigh more than most on the weight gain thread, i almost feel triggered from both ends. i dont say that to be mean to anyone, im just finding that hard. last night was good, we had ppl over 4 dinner+i was super social, even my father said i was very loquacious!
BLUID-hi, congrats on the gain, excuses excuses!! lol i replied on the other thread about recosidaring ur GW.
ERIN-did u go out 4 dinner or make the fish+fries?
LINEY-hi, did u increase from last wk since u hadnt gained?
So SInce im gaining on less than 2500, i might as well go for the 2500
agruskin im sorry your having such a hard time , have you considered taking a break from this site , im not sure if it is helping you at the mom,ent , dont get me wrong i think you do need help and support but im just wondering if you arnt trying to help others and focusing on other so much its preventing you from dealing with the real issues you have yourself . hope i havnt upset you i know other who have moved away from the site as they were feeling the same
TESSA-hi, yea, thanks, ive seperated myself from the site in the past and did find that to be helpful. its just not fair, y arent there others in my position a round here? where r they? what r they doing? ur rt, i need to STOP comparing, this is where I am now, I need to move forward, yea, thanks tessa.
there is people but not everyone uses this site , or some people use it but only read what others write and dont comment. we will all be at where you are at soon enough and for me i shall still post on here . i know you find it hard to believe but you are still underweight and need to gain ,try to take by how much out of the equation , and its not just weight i feel you have alot of head work to do to. also there have been people who have been where you are and gone higher and moved to the maintanance forum take chrissy for example hope you dont mind me saying that chrissy . please try and keep going you need to accept that you still need to gain weight if you dont you will just remain stuck remember a bmi of 20 is the least you should be are you there yet ? no thinking of you h xxx i also wonder if part of your problem is the ed trying to trick you into thinking you are not sick anymore another feeble attempt to get you to restrict and return back to that emaciated state
TESSA-hi, yea, i do have head work+ED stuff to work on, for sure!! probly ED thoguhts getting in the way also, telling me im not as sick as others, u r rt! that is bull, no such thing as "as sick" or "as underweihgt", ur rt, thank u! i dont think the person u mentioned is someone i waant to look to as na example ofrecovery, that is not recovery in my opinion a nd reason i left that thread, again, my opinion.
thank u, 700 cal bfast at least!
you can do this agruskin we are all with you xxx
i made this weight gaining shake yesterday and it was so good, way better than my supplement shake for sure!
it was:
2 scoops of muscle milk protein powder (350)
3 tbsp peanut butter (270)
1/2 banana (60)
1 cup of blueberries (100)
1 tbsp flax oil (120)
1 cup of milk (130)
1 cup of vanilla ice cream (200)
total = 1230 calories
it sounds like a weird combo, but it was really good and a really easy way to get those calories in without eating a lot of foods (:
Opeth- I was scrolling down really quickly and I just saw a list of food and '1230' at the end... I was about to blow a fuse 'OPETH WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING EATING 1230 CALORIES YOU SILLY SILLY BOY, I DEMAND YOU GO AND EAT CAKE RIGHT NOW.' And then I realised it was a recipe. Oops. ;) Looks awesome though!
Amy- *HUGS* Is all I can say. We're ALL with you, and when Lala was here, she was aiming for a BMI of 20 and posted right until she was there - and look what an inspiration she was!! And she's now out living her life! <3
On a complete side note, when I look at your username I pronounce it in my head 'Ah-groo-skin' It took me FOREVER to figure out that 'gruskin' is (probably?) your surname! But then I did pronounce 'Hermione' (harry potter) 'Hermy-own' until I heard the audio book *hides*
Why do I get bad cramps after I eat?
Suspect lactose intolerance when abdominal cramps are a problem, especially after breakfast when milk products are consumed. Lactose... Read more
