about the "weight gainers - what did you eat today?" thread.... sorry this wil annoy

okay.

im gonna say something. it might (as many of my posts do) annoy people. there are posts - namely dekkos - who are not eating the required calories for weight gain. this post is going a long time and if you look at the original missmagill was eating 4500. she specifically asked that if you werent eating a gain amount that you dont post here.

now dekkos i know people will flock to your aid and say "oh you're getting there and doing great" but the fact is this: you are underweight and suffering an eating disorder. you ask tonnes of questions and seek support. if you are not prepared to do what so so many people have asked and eat 2500 or 3000 if you continue to exercise, then you need to be prepared for ppls patience to run out.

this is a weight gain forum. not an eating disorder forum... though many of us hang out here. i think you are doing tremendously well from where you were but i think you need to push harder and get the cals up.

this was hard to post coz i know il get a severe backlash. but if this is the support for ed's, then in an ip situation there would be a zero tolerance attitude and i think the same attitude needs to applied here

someone mentioned that it is annoying how people still use 'diet foods' while trying to gain...i am one of those people who uses egg whites, fat free milk, etc, but that is only because i despise egg yolks, especially the hard boiled kind! that's why i take out the yolk of my hard boiled egg and fill it up with hummus, sounds strange but it's delicious. also in my house, there is a lot of lower calorie things just for the simple fact that not everyone in my house is trying to gain...and i suppose i could ask for whole milk, etc, but i feel bad enough considering how much we spend on groceries for all the food i want. the point i am trying to make is that i think you can still gain on these 'diet foods.' for  ex i drink ff milk, egg whites, low fat yogurt, sometimes fat free, and i still reach 2500 calories a day, sometimes way more. i still get fats from almond butter/ PB so i think for the most part it's okay as long as you are getting in the right number of calories :)

Crazy- i THOUGHT i didnt like yolks, cake, lots of stuff but u know what??  thats the ED, its telling u that u dont like foods that u really do, its psychological, really, there is NOTHING wrong w/ these foods, give them a try!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Crazy- completely understood. I think Blueberry_lips meant that it bugged her when it was obvious there was a complete lack of either fat or carbohydrates (no one seems to have a "fear" of protein, unless it's meat...)

Like if a menu was completely free of any oils, nuts, butters, and completely full of fat-free products, then it can be triggering.

Or, if a menu is extremely low in all carbs, then it can be triggering too.

Because, even with those calories, you're not going to completely heal unless you eat ALL the nutrients. (without fats, you won't get your period, a vital part of recovery)

That's been a problem of mine too, well at least at my Mom's house. My Mom is more accustomed to preparing 3 decent sized meals per day, and unfortunately it doesn't add up to enough cals to gain. And there isn't much to snack on either. All there really is for snacking is bread, fruit, and PB lol At my Dad's house though, where I usually spend more time, I am completely in charge of the grocery bill and everyone's meals, so I'm free to stock up on high cal foods Laughing

I stopped posting there because my calories weren't consistent and because I found that tracking food and logging actually made me want to eat less.... so the forum wasn't for me. I didn't want to "brag" (as it may seem to some, if I wasn't eating enough) and I didn't want to be a trigger. I watch the forum because I get some good menu ideas and frankly I get jealous and hungry because I don't always have those foods on hands! But everyone has to be on the weight gain page. It's hard to make EDNOS, Anorexic or restrictive thoughts leave your mind but if you get on board with a weight gain or healthy eating program, your goal is usually not to keep doing the same old, same old.

I'm sorry if I had angered this community. I am now going to stop posting here. I stopped excerising already.

Anyways buhh bye.

Well hopefully yall feel better now =/

Dekkos - don't play pity party for yourself. We are not angry. We are being honest with you, and trying to encourage you to do what is right for your body at this point in time. Yeah, its frustrating when you refuse to listen. But maybe instead of looking at this as "Wow people hate me" you can see it as "Wow, people are concerned about me and want me to get better and heal my mind and body properly so I never have to go through this again."

Yeah well said rebel. nobody wants to stop you from posting. but you have to be fair to other members and sufferers. you chose at point blank to ignore the advice and then requests to get your calories up if you were going to post on the weight gain forum.

dont play 'oh poor me'. this is a move to restore health for you but also within the entire community

Ah Dekkos - I hope you can try not to feel offended about this thread and keep on posting. Beyond it all, people are only saying these things because they care about your recovery, and other people's recovery.

You should just accept that currently, you aren't eating enough to gain, and eating enough to gain is one of the fundamental parts of getting over the illness. It may be comfortable to stick at borderline amounts of calories, but since you know you won't be gaining on that, you are not challenging the ED enough.

Weldone on your brilliant progress so far, but it's only fair to say that you do have some way to go in terms of your eating before people stop 'having a go' for lack of a better term.

Keep pushing and please keep posting once you up your cals a bit more - 500kcals is not very much more anyway - like, a glass of wholemilk, a banana, and two tbs Peanut butter, yeah? xx

And Evolution-revolution - the overnight feeds give me 2000kcal over about 6 hours - whilst asleep. I use a nasogastric tube, which I insert nightly or just leave in if I'm not going out. I started with it about 2 months ago as my team were concerned that although I make a concerted effort to eat plenty, I never manage my minimum of 3500 kcals a day - so doing the ON feeds allow me to eat relatively normally during the day without having to feel pressured or drink 6-7 bottles of supplement which I don't like and they make me too full for proper meals.

xx

Dekkos instead of not posting what about making the changes that you need to do and then you will be able to.

On a side note what did happen to lala? Hope all is ok.

Goobyb could you ask your mom if you can stock up on some items you need? Or can you bring it from your dads?

I'm only gonna be there for 2 more days, and then it's back to my dad's for awhile.

And just because I'm sure someone will comment on this, I'm not trying to procrastinate and drag this along. I'd rather not have my mom buy all sorts of stuff she's not going to even need to use. After all, I'm only there for a day or two at most, except under special circumstances.

Sorrry, about the way I acted the other day. It just felt like if you guys would be better without me.

But i see now you were just trying to help and now I'm not excersising anymore and still went to 2700 calories.

((((DEKKOS)))) THATS FANTASTIC. really. im genuinely thrilled. this is reaaly great news. this really is the first step in tru recovery. im glad you reconsidered your position. like the great coldplay say : when you get  what you want.. but not what you need. if we were to encourage you to keep at 2100 with exercise, we would have been enabling you to stay sick.

no-one here wanted to offend you. i certainly didnt but i did want to push you in a direction you werent too keen to go to. this is a great great move for you

Instead of publicly calling someone out, if you have an issue with a thread or a user use the "Report Violation" button or PM me and I or another moderator will deal with the thread in a lickety split - we will evaluate if the posting guidelines were evaluated and go from there.

As far as the "what did you eat thread" goes I am going to do a bimonthly approach as we were doing in YCC and lock the old one.

NYCGIRL-hi, sorry, i might be dense, do you mean that the "what did u eat" thread should be posted 2/month?  i think that somehow it should also be moderated to enure calorie goals are high enough and not just a place for ppl to post starvation diets, if u know what i mean.

thanks!

Every two weeks I will start a new "Weight GAINERS- what did YOU eat today?" thread (or you can do it if you like). The one you posted today will be only active for the next two weeks and then it will be locked.

This way we can keep a track of it easier (fewer pages to scroll through).

Don't worry everything is moderated and of course there should be nowhere on CC that people can post starvation diets. I monitor that thread and others but if you see something that is in violation we need the members to help us, by reporting violations. Obviously we moderate and I try and read most threads, but being that there are >1,000,000 members of CC I cannot read everything without your help!

sounds great!
