Weight lose = Hair Lose?
WTF....
About a month ago my hair started falling out, worse then when my mom was going threw Chemo and radiation. I have to clean the shower drain 2 times every shower. So I finally cave and spend money I don't have to see my dentologist. I waited 20 min for a 3 second consultation and all he heard was I lost weight and said "that causes hair lose and that 2-3 months after my weight stabilizes will it stop and start to grow back." WTF I have a long way to go I will be bald by then!!!
Has anyone else experienced this at all or to the extreme I am? I mean I understand how nutrition and diet affects the body. I have been extremely careful in making sure I get enough of everything. Not to mention I have lost a lot of weight before, in unhealthy ways, and NEVER lost my hair!
Any help here would be great..other wise I be a skinny bald chick instead of a fat chick with hair .......UGH
What is a dentologist?.... There are lots of causes of hair-loss. A poor diet & rapid weight-loss are two. However, severe stress can have the same effect and there are other reasons besides. If your mother has been very sick, that would sound quite stressful. Because of the growth cycle, hair condition tends to reflect your health two or three months earlier so any changes you make can take time to show.
If you're sure that you're getting a healthy diet, sufficient calories and that you're not losing weight rapidly (i.e. no more than 1% of your total body-weight in a week) then see a doctor. Otherwise, wait a few more weeks and see if your hair starts to regrow.

What is a dentologist?....
Okay apparently I can't type when I am pissed...dermatologist not dentologist...
I started losing weight in March and my hair loss was very noticable in July when I had lost around 15-20 pounds. I've lost 31 pounds total and oddly enough have days where the loss is very bad and days where it isn't noticable at all. I began taking a multivitamin every day so see if it helped and it's hard to say. I also starting running more in July and don't know if that could affect it or not.
I have the same concern. My goal is to lose 15 - 20 lbs (approx. 12% - 15% of my previous body weight). I noticed more than regular hair loss when I reached around 8 lbs loss... I have lost 16 lbs so far. But have noticed the hair loss to have slowed down a bit. Hopefully, it's not just my imagination. As I am getting closer to my goal weight, I am also slowly adding more food choices back into my meals. I would like to think that I eat healthy during weight loss period (1200 - 1500 cal per day, lot's of soy products, broccoli, eggs & dairy products, with vrey limited sugar & "white carbs", like pasta/rice) AND I do cardio (45 min - 75 min/day, 6 times per week). If I have to find fault with my diet, I would say perhaps I don't eat enough of the good fat??? (eg. omega 3/6/9). Would appreciates hearing from others with simular challenge.
