How much weight did you lose in January?
Sometimes I think shows like the Biggest Loser have created unrealistic expectations about losing weight. So I thought I'd start a thread to see what folks who actually have to work and cook their own food and live in the real world lost in January. I am also curious to know the average loss per month from folks who have lost consistently over the long term. Anyhow, for me:
SW (Jan. 5) : 205.4,
EW (ending weight): 200.8:
Total lost in January: 4.6.
SW - 145
CW - 137.5
Beat out 7.5 pounds... Of course, yes, a bunch was probably water weight because of all that baaaaaad binging and **** eating, so I probably only lost a bit over a couple pounds.
Hmmm...I didn't think I would be so far on the low end!! I'm not stressing about it, though. What great progress everyone has made!! Here's to more of the same in February!!
According to my deficit numbers, I should be down 5 lbs...But I am down 10. I am sure it is from eating better and losing water weight.

I lost 6.2#.
I weighed 165 right before Christmas (the last time I weighed myself). I weighed 158 a few days ago. So I lost 7 pounds between mid-December and the end of January. Which is wonderful! Especially since I didn't calorie count at all from about December 20th to January 5th, decided to just enjoy the time off with my husband and hanging out with friends.
I love the idea of this thread!

It's been a frustrating month and couple of weeks. I've been putting on weight off and on not because of overeating, but because of undereating for my circumstances. Right now I'm working to find the right balance to break through that.

6 pounds. This is about my average monthly loss since May 2008. Encouraging thread, great job losing everyone!

No worries erinw43 - I'm right there with you. I have noticed that my clothes are starting to fit better and my motivation is staying strong, but it is annoying to know that I have lost faster in the past (unhealthy methods, of course) but I remind myself that this is real weight loss and my body has been fed and taken care of during the process.

I seem to alternate good losing months with less losing months. January was a less losing month. I lost a pound, dropping from 151.5 to 150.6 pounds. December was better - lost four pounds to go from 155.1 to 151.5. So, February should be good, right?
My best month ever was my first (no surprise there) where I went from 176 to 167 for a total loss of nine pounds.
It may not sound like a lot, but I'm more confident I'll be able to keep the weight off because I'm not doing anything I can't see myself doing for the rest of my life.
This is such an awesome thread - I was feeling totally depressed at how slow the weight is coming off; but now I realize it is just normal. I have to really watch myself because in the past I have been able to lose weight really fast, but it was not healthy. This was my first month here, and I lost about 7 lbs. (165 to 158 at 5'9"). I am still hoping to get down to 150 by March 19th, and 145 by May 22nd. Thanks to everyone for the motivation! (especially those of you who talked about having less than awesome weight loss months)

I agree with you. Watching the Biggest Loser sometimes effects me and I start thinking I'm not losing enough. Thanks to everyone who posted. This is great. I lost 2.4 pounds.

8.5 Total pounds in January. After my first 3 weeks where my weight dropped by a lot more than the norm (probably water weight) - I've been steadily loosing 1-2 pounds a week.
Yay for dieting and exercising the RIGHT way. No crazy diets, no pills. Just a goal, being healthy, and letting myself eat something "bad" every now and then...cause we all need SOME happiness ![]()
