How much weight did you lose in January?
Sometimes I think shows like the Biggest Loser have created unrealistic expectations about losing weight. So I thought I'd start a thread to see what folks who actually have to work and cook their own food and live in the real world lost in January. I am also curious to know the average loss per month from folks who have lost consistently over the long term. Anyhow, for me:
SW (Jan. 5) : 205.4,
EW (ending weight): 200.8:
Total lost in January: 4.6.
SW: 109lbs
EW: 104lbs
Height: 5'2"
Total loss: 5lbs
SW (Jan. 1) : 267.0
EW (Feb. 1): 258.2
Total lost in January: 9.8
Very close to my 10 lbs goal, so I feel it was a successful January. February goal is 9 lbs so I can finally drop below 250 and be at the official half-way mark. :)
BTW, I love the biggest loser...watch it every week. I know it is very unrealistic to see the same results at home. But watching them really motivates me. I know what it is like to be so overweight that the idea of running on a treadmill for one full minute is almost impossible to think about. Then I watch a full season of TBL and I know that one day, I too will see the results they have seen if I just keep at it and make the lifestyle changes necessary.

I lost all the booze and salty carbs that I gaines over the Holidays. I lost my job in November, so I have time to work out 6 days a week. The Jan issue of Muscle & Fitness "Hers" has a great Back on track workout with diet that I followed religiously(at least the workouts, not so much the diet) Still drinking which takes up several hundred cals per day. Tip: Wheat beer has very few carbs, and about 30% fewer cals than normal beer!
What a cool thread!
SW (Jan 12): 203.5
EW (Feb 2): 198.0
Total Lost: 5.5
I was getting over a cold during this period and have only started back exercising this week, so I am feeling very good about this start! My goal weight is 135.
New at this site, but loving it!!!
SW (Jan 1st) --- 188
EW (Jan 31) ----177
Total for January - 11 lbs
Goal - 130....then I will rethink/reset the goal.
I lost 2lbs, not a whole lot but I got off track at the beginning of the month so I am hopping for better results in February. Plus I just recently started adding exercise back in. Being in MN it my activity level dips during the winter cause it's too cold to go outside.

This was my first month. I HATE the biggest loser, it really reinforces the unhealthy ways Americans view and treat their body. Losing that much weight that fast is very confusing to your body, and the last things Americans need is to see a rat race about it. Everyone is more than a number on the scale, and I HATE shows that will tell you otherwise! Plus I think most of the Biggest Losers really need a healthier self-esteem, because going into that, they have none and then they build it up by their success in losing weight.. then they're back at rock bottom when it goes back on again. It's pretty cruel if you ask me.
Height: 5'4"

EW: 170 lbs

I had gained 5 lbs over a vacation at the beginning of January and was able to lose this. Now I will be working on the 10 lbs I gained over the holidays. I have to work out 3-4 times a week just to maintain so the hard part will be figuring out how to get my body to burn the extra lbs. I can go 5 days a week sometimes but don't want to go 5 times a week for the rest of my life. Once I lose my holiday wt I can then focus on getting back to my maintenance weight of around 150. I love the Biggest Loser but do think it gives people unrealistic expectations. It is very hard for me to lose weight even though I have been working out regularly since I was 18 and am now 32.
This came at a really great time. I was doing greatand holding my own thru Thanksgiving. Didn't fare so well through Christmas and New Year's. Now struggling to get back on track. Thanks for the boost![]()
lost 23 pounds , have kept it off now for 14 months, now ready to loose 20 more. in Jan. I lost from 158 now am 154. I am 5'6" my goal is 135. I need to get off my bottom and start moving. having M.S. it is somewhat harder for me to do some things, but getting off tail and moving would help!!

Most of my weight loss was water retention, however near the end it was actually fat loss! I'm not seeing any physical changes yet, but the scale is starting to tip less out of favor and more in favor. My face has thinned slightly, though, and since the loss of water retention I don't look as bloated (thank goodness!). Things are looking up and getting easier and easier to manage!
Hello, I lost 8 pounds. I have recently started a yoga class for 1 hour one day a week and do a treadmill workout for about 20-25 minutes for 3-5 days a week. I have really bad knees and have to do a very low impact workout. Biking really hurts me so the tread mill is great. The speed is about 2-3mph but at an in cline of about 10. Always 3 days and the 1 day for yoga is my have to do each and every week. I was at a stand still. I lost 25 pounds from September of 08 to January. Slow but sure. Small eating changes and keeping a really good tack of what I ate over the holidays helped me loose that initial 25. This exersize routine really jumped me back on the wagon. Yippie!!!
I still need to lose about 60 pounds but I am on my way.
Dropping by to leave my weight loss for Jan.
SW (Jan. 05) : 113 lbs.

My first month eating healthy, so a lot of it was water weight - I feel healthier, though, and my bmi has already dropped by 2!
Looking forward to a healthier February!
ERINW34,
Thank you for starting this thread! I was starting to feel desperate and defeated, having only lost 2 lbs for the month of Jan, despite the regimen i've been adhering to (1500 calories a day, 45 minutes of running, and 20-30 min of pilates). After seeing others with the same weight loss, i feel much better!!!
