How much weight did you lose in January?

Quote  |  Reply

Sometimes I think shows like the Biggest Loser have created unrealistic expectations about losing weight. So I thought I'd start a thread to see what folks who actually have to work and cook their own food and live in the real world lost in January. I am also curious to know the average loss per month from folks who have lost consistently over the long term. Anyhow, for me:

SW (Jan. 5) : 205.4,

EW (ending weight): 200.8:

Total lost in January: 4.6.

I love the biggest loser and try to watch it every week.  I gain something every week be it a new snack, food meal or exercise I can modify by sitting at the edge of my bed.  Sometimes there is too much drama between the contestants.  My circumstances are such I can barely move and use a walker to get around.  Recently, my physical therapist stopped coming because of insurance.  My husband is trying to motivate me and not give up.  I had to laugh because I thought of Bob and Jillian.  They do care and want people to succeed.  I know I do not like the idea of pushing someone until the puke (I wish they didn't show that on TV).  Watching them helps motivates me and I know that one day, I too will see the results they have seen if I just keep at it and make the lifestyle changes necessary.

SW (Jan. 1) : 471.6

EW (Feb. 1):  475.6

Total gain in January: 4 pounds

I do feel it was a successful January in that I have been moving more plus I lost 1 inch in my waist.

reading all your replies helped me focus on the fact that I actually lost 5 lbs in January even though I've been stuck there for 2 weeks.  It's still 15 lbs total and I've kept to my 1 hour workout almost every day (except on the cruise where I managed to maintainInnocent  I guess I am doing ok and people have started to notice the loss of inches which is great!

Starting weight: 141

Ending weight: 133

Loss: 8lbs

Walking to and from work every day, calisthenics every evening, eating healthier (1200-1500 calories spread out through the day), jogging at least three times a week, and dancing whenever I think about it......shaking often!  Because why shouldn't you dance?

SW: 313

EW: 305.5

TW: 8.5 lbs lost

I too love the Biggest Loser, but they are not being realistic, you can see at reunion shows how much weight many of the contestants gain back. They are too restrictive in their eating and exercising 6-5 hours daily, who really has time for that??? My weight loss goal is to be 170 lbs by July 2010. Once I hit that mark my hubby and I can try to start a family, but the weight needs to come off first. Thanks all

SW: 195

EW: 188

Lost: 7 pounds

I love this idea...it's really helping me put my own weight into perspective...I began January 2nd counting calories and exercising 2hrs a day/5 days a week...I really thought I would have lost more but it sounds like I'm on track...here are my stats...

SW: 230

CW: 220

Loss of 10 lbs!

January sw 194.4

       &nb sp;     ew 189.4

I need to incorporate exercise but living in VT in winter and no extra time or money for gyms - it has been hard. My goal for June is to be down in the 150 range and my over all goal is to be back down to 125 to 130 range

SW (Jan. 14) : 199

EW (ending weight) (Jan. 29): 194.6

Total lost in January: 4.4.

Although I weighted 194.6 last Thursday… yesterday (2/2) I weighted myself again I was BACK on 197.  I didn't overeat during the weekend and maintain my workout program. I'm not sure if I'm retaining water that justified this 3-pound increase. I have a digital scale, so I don't think it just reading error.  I was disappointed.

SW: 230

EW: 216

TW: 14 lbs lost

Total Inches: 13

Total Body Fat Lost: 2%

SW: 185.4

EW: 181

Lost: 4.4

This is huge for me because I just started (or started again, but more serious this time?) to track my food intake and incorporating walking and yoga into my routine as much as I can.

I think your're right - those shows do set unreasonable goals for us mere mortals.  I suppose with a personal trainer and the potential embarrassment of not losing in front of the nation looming over me I may have lost more in January but...

199 start

188.9 end

10.1 lost

This was my first month so I think the weight loss was high and will slow in the next month but that's okay - I've already admitted that it will very likely take me a year to get where I want to be.

SW:  182

EW: 168

14 lost :-)

I only started on Christmas, so a lot of that is surely water, but I'm down a pants size and feeling good...  Yay February!!!

P.S.  Don't despair katiuska...  I went from 169 to 173 and stuck there for 10 days in January despite similar eating and activity levels...  I was super upset, but on day 12 I had a little whoosh and was down to 168 in the course of 48 hours.  Even if you had binged, you would be hard pressed to have gained 2.5 lbs of fat in a few days, it's probably water or waste...  Drink water, eat fiber, I bet in the next week you'll find you're still right on track...
