Hey everyone. I think this is a great site to help everyone address concerns they have as I am always looking for the answers to health/diet issues.
Currently I eat around 700 calories per day. However I haven't had any weight loss or gain for that matter, I have remained 120 pounds, I was wondering why this is? I understand from reading other posts I have put myself in starvation mode, which I know isn't a good think.. But consuming a daily intake this low would have to led to weight loss wouldnt it?? I don't understand why I haven't continued to lose weight, I do the ellipitcal for about 20minutes 3 times a week as well. Why am I not losing weight?? I have been eatting like this for well over 3 months, and I understand this is NOT healthy and I know I am in starvation mode, but WHY NO WEIGHT LOSS! A couple of weeks I consumed 700 calories daily and didn't exercise at all and I remained at 120, then a few weeks later I consumed 700 cals daily and DID exercise and I still weighted 120 I dont get it?
Can someone help explain this to me.
Also I heard something about if you eat too much protein it can actually have negative effects and make u gain weight is this true??
ThANKS SO MUCH ! I promise to reply to everyone!

Hiya. I'm not the most educated person to answer, but I can tell you that ur cals are far too low! You stand very little chance of loosing weight by eating so little. Your body at 120lbs has not got a lot left to let go.
Wait for an answer from those with more knowledge, but I can tell you that you must eat more.

Anything below 1200 calories a day is too little. It takes at least that much for your body to function, dependant of course on age, height, etc. But never less than that. If you are taller and/or if you are younger, you will burn more.
You need to get into the tools here and calculate how many calories you should actually be eating based on your age, weight, height, activity level, etc. (I tried to link you to it, but I cannot. get it to work.)

It pains me to see someone eating so little! 800 calories a day is NOT enough for sure. Try reading this article it'll explain a lot.

You said it yourself. You've put your body into starvation mode. It's not gonna let go of a single ounce becuase you're not giving it nearly enough to survive on. The weight you begin to loose is gonna be muscle. You're headed for SERIOUS problems. EAT!!! Use the tools here to find out what your body needs just to survive, and go from there. There is a TON of good information here, I suggest you do your homework and EAT.
20 minutes on the eliptical... that's what... 120 cals?
Whatever it is you should be eating at minimum 1200 cals on non-exercise days and probably around 1320 on days you do exercise (unless you do more exercise, then you would need to eat more).
Yeah, read that bodybuilding article linked above. It's a good one for people like you and what you have done to your body. You will gain a few pounds coming out of it... but afterwards this will too pass and you will end up dropping down to whatever your body will allow for 1200 cals (or more when working out) a day.
So yeah... you're basicly nearing anorexia... or whatver... but it's not too late (I think) for you to recover and start giving your body the nutrients it so greatly needs.

lol. sorry. :oS
We really need a basic information post for ALL NEW MEMBERS to read before posting...
That amount of calories is not enough as it is, why would your body want to drop more?
Eat more. gradually move up to 1200 cals a day. Yes, you will experience a weight gain, obviously. Wait it out. Your body will get over the shock once it realizes you're actually taking care of it on a daily basis. Only then will it start to drop the weight

THANK YOU EVERYONE FOR ANSWERING!!! I still have a few questions.
Obviously 700 cals per day is NOT enough. I am not considered underweight for my height so why is it I am not losing weight?? People who are anorexic consume a LOW daily intake as well and of course they lose weight, why havent I?? (not saying I want to be anorexic, just relating it to this issue)
Also, eatting any more than 800 cals I feel STUFFED! My stomach feels bloated and like I ate a turkey meal, its gross.
I'm really frustrated in why I AM NOT LOSING ANYTHING! I know you say to eat more, bc I am lacking vital nutrients, BUT I do not feel fatigued, tired, hungry or ANYTHING. I do not feel warn out, I feel perfect as if I do not need more to function better! Still Im frustrated on what to do!
But think about it, it doesn't make sense.. eatting more makes u lose weight? its impossible. I heard a lot of talk about ZIg-ZAGing ur diet. Eat 800 cals one day, 1000 another day and that will take care of the plateau. Should I do this instead?

agavioli, you are not losing weight because your body will not let you, because you are in starvation mode. Your metabolism will slow down when this happens, meaning you burn fewer calories. And your body will cling to every bit of nutrition it can get.
If you want to lose weight, you need to eat more, and give your body time to heal. There is no guarantee that you will lose weight on a starvation diet, there is only a guarantee that your body will suffer from it.

then how do anorexics lose way?
is zig zaging a helpful approach?

Honestly, I refuse to answer that (not the zig-zag part, the question about how anorexics lose weight). Because it is against our posting guidelines:
Promotion of habits that exhibit signs of an eating disorder ("pro-ana", "pro-mia", etc.) is prohibited.
No one is going to help you lose weight like an anorexic here. Please eat more, and be patient, and you will be happy with the results.
