weight loss and the birth control pill ughh.

Can someone please give me a success story about how they lost weight while on birth control pills please!!  Even if you have to lie...lol  I just really need to read something to make feel like there might be hope.

My story:

Been on BC for 10years or so (I'm 30 now)  Slowly gained weight.  And, yes, I know that age and metabolism has a factor.  But..I do believe that the pill is a factor as well.   3 times now in the past 4 years I've tried going off of them.  Lost weight easily....but after a few months off of them I need to go back on them.  Weight returns.    It just happened again.  Was off of them - loved it - lost weight -  had to go back on them  and (BAM)  I've gained 7 lbs in  2 1/2 weeks.   I exercise and use CC religiously - eat extremely healthy.  I do notice that I'm more hungry..causing me to eat a tad more.  And not the type of hunger you can ignore..I'm talking sooo hungry  where you feel hot, nauseous, dizzy.  The type of hunger that you can't ignore where you end of sick.  I"m like that all the time.

I don't know what to do. I just feel like I'm trying 150% and the pills are just not going to let me lose.

And, oh, I'm on the pill for my skin.  It's the ONLY drug that will clear up my skin.  That's why I always end up back on it.  Horrible cystic, painful  ance without it. Beautiful perfect skin with it.   I either am going to have horrible skin or be fat!    What way do you go???

I don't know...just wanted to rant I gues.  Any suggesstions?  Again, weight loss success stories while on the pill would be helpful.

Thanks for taking the time to read and answer,

Jennifer

i know that some pills tend to make you retain more water, so that could definitely be a factor in your 7 lbs gain in 2.5 weeks

i've been on BC for 4 years now.. on and off .. and honestly, it doesn't really affect me -- when i first started them i was around 125-130 lbs but for the past year or so i've been at 105-110 lb

When I started taking BC about 4 years ago, I was on Weight Watchers at the same time and I lost 20 lbs with no problem.  When I stopped doing Weight Watchers, I noticed that the pill made me feel like eating was more of a priority and it was the first thing I'd think to do when I was bored, but it doesn't feel like that on the "off week".  I'm still on BC and I've lost about 15 lbs since I started CC in May.  It helps to snack on veggies and I like to put a little soy milk in my coffee I sip at work to stave off hunger and snacky-ness.

I swear to Gawd. Try Nuvaring. Just do it. It's the best thing that's ever happened to me.  Talk to your doc about it.
I was on the pill  for about five years got off (to get preggers) and lost 20 lbs in the first month and felt amazing I didnt realize how crappy the pill was making me feel..I would never go back on again!...never!

There is not much evidence supporting weight gain as a side-effect of birth control pills:

However some people are more sensitive to hormonal changes than others, or have different symptoms that may not be usual, so you should definately talk to your doctor about your concerns. Maybe there is a different pill you could try that is still effective with acne control.

I have been on the pill for close to 20 years now, with a few years in between when I went off, and I did not notice a difference in hunger. There were so many other things influencing my behaviour at the time, I ended up gaining weight while off the pill but I sure don't think it was caused by that. However, I do notice that I am famished a day or two before my period. I do believe that hormone levels can effect hunger....but the bottom line is, if you are not willing to give up the pill, you have to learn to manage it. Maybe try changing your balance of macronutrients....a diet high in lean protein and low in complex carbs (stick to whole grains) with a reasonable amount of fat and LOTS of fruits and veggies is what works for me in keeping the hunger away. If I go too low in fats or protein, or too high in sugar or "white" carbs, I get hungry to the point of crankiness and sad that I can't control it....when really all I need is to focus more on keeping a good balance. Being aware of what I am eating is half the battle.

So success while on BCPs? Well I have lost nearly 60 lbs since January, so it seems to be going pretty good :)

I hope something here helps.

I've been on BC on and off for the past 6 years and it's never really had much affect on my weight.  Right now i'm on the nuva ring (I agree it's awesome) and I've lost 16lbs so far.  I thought BC could make you gain weight at first but I didn't think it was a long term thing.

Actually, I had a waaaay easier time losing weight on the pill--I didn't even do anything or try at all and I lost weight--it was awesome!  But now, sadly, I cannot ever take hormonal b.c. again (turns out I have a blood clotting disorder, and b.c. pills really increase your chances of blood clots).  Anyways, the weight came back when I got off the pill...I think it has something to do with my weird hormones--I have a "minor" case of PCOS.

thank you so much to everyone who responded.  i'm taking everything you all said into consideration. Smile
