Hello, I'm looking for others trying to lose a lot of weight, to keep each other motivated threw our bad days and cheer us on on our great days! to keep each other going threw out the week by staying in touch. I want people who want to reach there goal weight and wont quit tell we reach them! who's with me?!?!
I am 5'3 and weigh 217 pounds, my goal weight is 127lbs by May 30th of 209
Sarah~
=)
Prissy and Gracie, I'm the only one in my house trying to eat right too. My hubby is 210lbs but 6 feet tall. When I met him he was maybe 140lbs. I guess I haven't been a good influence. Ha ha. But as unfair as it is, 200 looks good on him. Not on little 5' 3" me! Life is so cruel!
Earthmom, I think I'm going to go back to only weighing myself once or twice a week. Maybe you can try it too? Those 3lb gains in one day aren't "true". They have to be water weight. You would have had to eat 12,500 calories in one day to do that kind of damage!
Penny, Thanks for the LAUGH!!! I too have tried to do the "programs" on my treadmill and I can't do it either. I wish they made a Couch 2 5K program you could upgrade your treadmill with. That would be amazing!
Sammy, I have also been thinking of a good REWARD to motivate me. I decided that at 199 I'm going to get a pair of kick arse boots! IF I can find a pair to fit over my cows (read = fat calves).
Have a great weekend everyone. Drink water, eat fiber and move your buns!
Good morning everyone! Penny, I'm sorry, but I laughed out loud at the vision of you on the treadmill yelling. Sounds like something I would do. My husband hates the brown breads too, but luckily I'm not much of a bread eater. Unless it's hot rolls, then I don't know when to stop.
Sammygirl, that's a great idea to treat yourself to a new dress when you reach 200. I am sure that new dress will need new shoes too. And you will so deserve them!
Jodi, I would love to get a pair of boots, but even when I was slimmer, I could never wear them because of my fat calves. But I am so envious when I see women with really cool looking boots on. Maybe someday.
I rode the bike again this morning for half an hour. I am getting better at it. Maybe when it warms up a little outside, I will go back to my walking but also do the bike at night. THEN, maybe the stupid scale will move.
Although it seems that you burn more calories on the bike than walking, I really enjoy walking outside in the morning (when it's not in the 30s). It's quiet and peaceful. That is sort of my meditation time, my me time. I can't sit and meditate because I've found if I sit quietly for more than 5 minutes, I doze off. lol Guess I'm getting old. But when I'm walking I find I can zone out and relax. Sometimes, I think of everything that's going on in my life, and what I need to do. Other times I just start repeating to myself, over and over with each footstep, I AM LOSING WEIGHT. I can get into a bit of a rhythm with that. Of course on days when the stupid scale isn't cooperating there is a negative voice that pops up in my head and says No, you're not. But I just ignore it and keep repeating to myself.
Hope everyone has a great day!
Gracie
Hello. I think many moons ago I joined this group or wanted to. I'm over 200 lbs. 246.4 to be exact. I've been a member on CC for a couple of years and was a proud member of the Over 200 Club until I really dropped off the wagon with a major THUD!@. This group seems to be very motivated and inspirational and I would really like to join you all. I really need to get back on the wagon or maybe jog behind it... Maybe I need to get OFF the wagon and actually move my body. Either way. I'm trying to get back into the swing of things with counting my calories, and my carbs (I'm diabetic, so far not on meds), and now I also need to watch the cholesterol and salt. It was difficult before with being the primary cook in the house and no one liking to eat healthy. Then a few weeks ago, my husband had a heart attack and had to have a triple bypass. All his numbers from his blood work would have indicated there was nothing wrong with him. Everything was in the normal ranges, but now he has to lose weight (he's not that overweight-- only about 30-40 lbs maybe), and watch his salt and cholesterol intake. So I have someone on my side again and he is worse than I am (Read ANAL) about watching everything. He's too picky right now. We have 3 kids still at home and they don't eat wonderful either, very picky, portions too large and all of them a little overweight, 2 are very active and one is very lazy. So I have multiple challenges. I need some support, motivation, guidance, help, help, and more help! I would so love to join your group and hopefully benefit from learning from you.
Thanks......in advance.
Bertha (blj55)
Welcome Bertha. this here is a great group to find friendship and support. I'm glad to hear your hubby is ok and on the wagon with you. I got a chuckle imagining all of us being tied to and running after/being dragged by the wagon. You're right, chasing it will burn more calories!
I had a good day, bought new eyeshadow at the mall, went out to lunch and had a salad. It was really good. Some broiled salmon over greens, green beans, olives, roasted potatoes. So yummy I didn't even use the salad dressing. That's a first!
Gracie, I agree with you about outdoor exercise. It does help to breathe the fresh air to clear your head. I'm just weary about exercising outside because I can't track how fast I'm going. I like being able to see I'm walking at 3 or 3.5 mph on the treadmill, but it is boring as heck!
Hope everyone has a good weekend. :)
Welcome Bertha! I am sorry your husband had a heart attack but glad to hear he is doing better. And it's great that he's being really picky right now because that will help you. And it will be good for your children too to have healthier meals. Just because they are picky, don't let them try to guilt you into making them something different. As my mom used to say, you have two choices for dinner -- take it or leave it. lol When my daughter was a teen, she tried to get me to make something different for her every so often, until she finally got tired of my take it or leave it routine.
Jodi, I mapped out exactly one mile in my car and I try to walk that as fast as I can. I was walking it in 20 minutes, so I figured I was walking at 3 mph (if my math is right). I have now gotten so I am able to walk it in 17 minutes (most mornings) and I think that would be 3.5 mph. If I start thinking too hard, I catch myself slowing down, so I speed it up, and am usually able to finish in the allotted time.
Sounds like you had a good day yesterday. By the way, did you hear that Macys, Saks, and other high end department stores were giving away cosmetics through 1/26 because of some class action lawsuit? A friend sent me an email about it. I need to head to the mall to see if there is any left. I love free stuff.
Hope everyone has a great day!
Gracie
Welcome Bertha. Heart disease is scary, especially after surgery, so you can't blame him for being extra careful...I love Gracie's dinner philosophy. I do a lot of experimenting with healthier foods, and the Recipe Browser on this site is a great place to start. There are some real winners in the food lineups. This site has done wonders for my morale and for keeping the facts right in front of me. I use the tools, and I love posting in my journal and commenting with my friends. Keep coming back.
Jodi the salad sounds awesome! I wish I could make something at home that tasted that good.
Back in the day, I wanted suede boots so much I took a pair of skinny ones and had inserts put down the back seam. They were hot! Those were the days. Today I'm just grateful for comfortable shoes, especially red ones.
I'm doing really well with my bike now that I have a pillow on the seat. Today was the third time in a week I have done the "Fat Burn" program for 20 minutes. Burns more than 200 calories, which is huge for me. If it keeps going well for another week or so, I'm going to either bump up the resistance or increase the time. I exercise before breakfast (before work), and so the time is precious; I'm glad I have options to increase gradually. Gracie your timing of your mile walk sounds really good. I remember walking that fast...when I was like 12!
Hey Gang,
I had a lousy afternoon today (food-wise), but I'm hoping to not let it get me down.
The good news is that I jogged A MILE yesterday! I alternated 1/4 mile walk then 1/4 mile jog with a 1/4 walk cool down. My calorie deficit yesterday was over 1000, but I used that up today!
Gracie, I drove a route also when the weather was better. Don't worry about how fast you're going. They say that the length of time you walk is more important than how fast. But walking 3.5 is fast! Good job!
Earthmom, the salad was good. I never make fish at home because the rest of the family doesn't like it, but I should. It's so good for you and yummy too! And it's funny you mentioned red shoes...I've been looking for a pair and I can't find ones I like. They're either too "little girl" looking or too pointy! What is it with these pointy shoes?
Hope everyone has a good evening!
Jodi
Hi everyone,
Hope everyone is doing well!
Welcome Bertha! Sorry to hear about your husband. I'm glad to hear he is doing better.
Penny - your treadmill story was hysterical. I always leave it on "manual" mode, because I can't figure out the other modes.
Gracie, you know the other day near Bloomingdale's there was a huge line all the way down the street, and someone on the line said it was for make-up. I guess it was part of what you mentioned the high end stores are doing.
Have a good night!
Leelee
Good evening everyone!
Earth_mom, what is the "Fat Burn" program? Is it something that is built into the bike? My bike is the no bells & whistles type. It tells you your time, your speed and your distance. But if the "Fat Burn" program is something on the site I'd like to know more. I need all the help I can get. I have gotten used to the pillow on the seat too. Cheaper than the gel seats!
Jodi, sorry you had a lousy afternoon. And congratulations on jogging a mile! That is amazing.
Thanks, I was wondering if it was better to walk longer or faster. Not that I can get any faster right now, I am at my limit. I am usually sweating and huffing & puffing when I get through. I was able to walk 3 miles this morning instead of my usual weekday 2 miles.
I'm not happy about the pointy shoes either. I was shopping for a pair of brown shoes yesterday. I have a big foot to start off with and the pointy shoes just make it look bigger. I don't need that.
Leelee, good to see you. I never made it to the mall to get the free makeup. But my daughter did and was able to get some free eye shadow. She said it was limited to one per customer, but that is very nice. I guess today was the last day.
I have started to try to lift weights. Just small ones for now (10 lbs) but it's pretty hard. I have no upper body strength and thought it would be nice to try to tone up my arms some. We'll see how that goes.
Hope you all have a good night.
Gracie
Hi Leelee, how's the work challenge going? I didn't make it to the mall either for the free makeup. Which makes me mad because I was AT the mall and just didn't know about it!
Yesterday's afternoon binge turned into a free for all for the entire day. I didn't add up all my calories, but I'm sure I hit at least 2000.
I'm trying to figure out why I did it. I think part is frustration with being stuck at 208, but when I looked back at my history I was stuck at 207 for 5 weeks over the summer, so maybe this is just the same thing happening over again.
I beat it once before, I'll do it again!
Gracie, congrats on 3 miles! I can't do that! It takes me 45 minutes to walk/jog 2.75 miles. You must have been out there for a while! Go girl!
Yeah, pointy shoes are just silly, but then again so are ballet flats...where's the happy medium?
Gracie, "fat burn" is on the bike: gradually increasing speed from 7.5 to 11, then back down again. I can time it at 20 minutes or longer, and I can vary the "resistance" on the bike. I'm using "1" right now. I breathe more deeply and I do break a sweat, also the bike monitors my heart rate.
My daughters wear those pointy shoes, and I remember them from my high school days (especially a red patent leather pair of flats...awful for my wide feet, bunions, etc. I buy shoes online in big comfy sizes that still get compliments. Much better selections of color, size, style.
I have added a bit of "strength" training to my workouts. I use resistance bands, and dumbbells and the "wheel" thingy. I sit on the exercise ball to help build up my core muscles while I "pump iron." haha. I can only use the 10-lb weights for bicep curls, where I'm still pretty strong. The rest lower weights or "medium" bands. There is a seated workout routine on about.com, but I only use the "upper body" and abs part. I have to be careful With my arthritic hip.

Hi Everyone!
I'm kinda new to the message boards. This is the second time I've joined CalorieCount, the last time I don't think I was ready (my heart and mind weren't in the right place), but now with renewed vigour and with a realistic goal I'm back on. I'm looking for a weight loss buddy and thought that this would be a great place to find one (or two, or four, or eight). I tend to be really hard on myself whenever I slip up. I'm not very forgiving and will tend to have an all or nothing attitude (as in "I messed up today, so I might as well eat crappy for the rest of the day and start over tomorrow") that I'm trying to change. This place looks like a great place to get tips, encouragement and a few laughs along the way. Currently I'm 216 lbs and my goal is to get to 145 by May 2010. I look forward to hearing from some of you! :)
Hi everyone!
Jodi, I'm sorry your day wasn't so great yesterday. But sometimes we need a "free for all" day. And you have the right attitude and know how to get back on track.
earth_mom, thanks for the link to the seated workout routine. I am going to try some of those. I was doing the biceps curls and the upper arm press (which is much harder than it looks).
I liked the shoes site also. I am wary about ordering shoes online though since I have a very wide foot and also a high instep, which means I can't wear shoes high up on my foot (you know, the cute kind). This weekend I was simply looking for a pair of brown loafers. Something comfy to wear with slacks. Apparently they don't exist anymore.
jwg, welcome! You have found a great place for support and motivation. And I can tell you from personal experience that kicking yourself when you slip up burns absolutely ZERO calories, so it's a waste of time. I am still pretty new here too. I joined back in March 2008, tried it for about a month and did my usual give up routine. But then I came back in October and I have been going steadily ever since. I have a lot more to lose than you, but I can tell you this site has been a huge help for me.
Hope you all have a great afternoon.
Gracie!
We had quite a bit of snow and ice here today. SO much so that school was cancelled. BUt despite being homebound and feeling cabin fever by 9am I stayed on plan. Whenever I felt the urge to binge I tried to distract myself. It was hard, and I used every trick in the book. I chain-chewed sugarless gum, drank 4 cups of decaf tea, 2 big bottles of water and 2 diet sodas. Oh and a big bowl full of zucchini and tomatoes, but I did it. I came in just over 1400 cals for the day.
I was hoping to start working in a little strength training to my day, but I guess I won't be starting today. Maybe friday or saturday. Tomorrow is my jog/walk day.
welcome to Jwg. This is the best thread on CC. Honest. Everyone is so genuine and kind-hearted. You'll love it here.
And Gracie, thanks for reminding me not to kick myself when I'm down. I LOVED the "burns zero cals" comment. SO true and so funny!
Here's to tomorrow, the next day in our journey! HOpe it's a good one for everyone.
Jodi--big congratulations getting through the day...I have had days like that and they are no fun...but you did it!
Yep, Gracie, burns no calories! That's great. I'm glad if you enjoy the links. It's so fun and easy to explore this site, about.com, and really the net. Since the twins were born my already "C" width went to "EEE." That's why I like that site. It was hard at first to see so many "cute" shoes I couldn't wear, but I finally found a pair of loafers I was happy with, and ordered them in every color. You know the adage: If the shoe fits, order it in every color.
Jwg, welcome back. One of my favorite things to say is "keep coming back."
I have been stuck on a plateau for months, and I just keep coming back, looking for new things to try...and slowly trying and changing.
Today the scale was nice to me, and I log a 2.6 lb loss for the month. Yay. February Challenge first weigh-in is Sunday. We'll see how it goes. I am working on getting more active, and with my physical challenges that has been more "downs" than "ups" --but lately I've had some small success.
I enjoy researching topics here on CC (when work allows: I have dialup at home, so not so much there). For some reason, reading in depth about exercise or nutrition or other issues energizes me. I feel armed to the teeth and enthusiastic.
Really, it's surviving those days like JJ had yesterday, and always coming back after disappointment that will tell the tale.
Hi Everyone,
I want to start by introducing myself. My name is Karen and I am having a heck of a time getting motivated to lose weight. I am 5'9" and 165 lbs and have a huge appetite. My goal is to get back to 135 which is were I was 5 years ago. I would love to hear any advise that you may have for me, and of course I would love to offer my support and advise to all of you as best I can.
Thanks, Karen
Welcome, Karen
This is a great site and has really helped me to focus on changing my habits to healthy ones. My advice is to take the quiz: what kind of eater are you? to log your food at least daily, to check out the exercise plan, stay in touch, and keep coming back.
Hey Gang! How was everyone's week? I had a good overall week. Wednesday was tough, but I made it through! Thanks Earthmom for the props!
I've even managed to keep my binges in line. I did eat a few oreos yesterday (they are my weakness) but even with a little slip up I stayed under 2000 cals for the day and I burned about 2300, so I'm still in the safe zone.
I hope everyone has a fun and fit weekend!
Happy Saturday everyone! I had a serious case of the blahs yesterday. I don't know why, no reason. I didn't do too bad on the eating though and I rode my stationary bike. It was just hard to move. But today is a new day and I feel great.
Welcome Karen! This is a great group of people. Earthmom had some great advice (she always does) about taking the test and logging your calories.
Earthmom, you have given me my new motto to live by - "If the shoe fits, order it in every color!" I love it! Congratulations on the 2.6lb loss and for the success in working out. Any success, even small ones, should be celebrated. Look how far we have all come.
And Jodi, yay you! Conquering a bad day and getting right back to it. Oreos are also my weakness, especially the double stuff - yum! So I have to not buy any, I find it easier not to even go down that aisle in the grocery store. I hate when they have them on sale and put them on the ends of the aisles. Not only are they hard to resist, but I have the added temptation that they are on sale, so I would be saving money. Ugghh, it's never easy, is it?
Hope everyone has a great weekend too. Can't wait for the Super Bowl. I don't care much about the game (my team didn't make it) but I do love the commercials. ![]()
Gracie
Hi guys, not sure if this one is for guys too but id love to join you in motivation chats with other people in the same boat.
Ive said im trying to lose weight for years cos I have been unhappy with my body but I have never REALLY done anything about it. For the last two weeks ive been eating my 5-a-day, keeping my calories down, cut the sweets and exercise everyday.
As I have set the challenge at work, telling everyone I want too I feel more motivation to do it because I have people there who are asking ARE YOU STILL DOING IT and if I dont, they will know... and I dont want them to think I cannot do this. Maybe I am mad but hopefully you understand.
I am 21st 12lbs (I beleive that is 306lbs according to a converter I used the other night) at the moment and 6ft 4", I am severly overweight but I have tried to kid myself for long enought that because im tall it didnt matter... it does - I am too big and dont feel comfortable.
The big bug bear is I love to look good but that is hard when all the clothes I want dont fit. My goal is not to lose 19stone but rather to just get to a size where I can fit into LARGE clothes instead of XXL, I like to be soft - maybe when I lose the weight I will want to tone up but I kinda like having some meat on me.
Chat soon, sorry this was long!
M x
