=)
Hi everyone,
I'm very relaxed because I have tomorrow off, for July 4th. Looking forward to the long weekend.
Gracie - wish I could say the dancing going on in class was good, but I can't, LOL. Most of us look less than professional, but it's fun and everyone just kind of goes with it and enjoys it.
I don't have too much going on this weekend for July 4th, so I'm not too worried about going off plan, but I'm going on a cruise soon and I am worried about gaining when I go.
Leelee
A cruise Leelee... I am jealous. wish I could talk hubby into going. we have them out of galveston now, only a couple of hours away, but still he is apprehensive. maybe one of these days. gracie. you will move on, just give yourself time. I am not moving either, seems I am stuck in the 210-215's.. I regfuse to give up and am still losing inches according to my clothes. just hang in.bonnie have been keeping up with your post, and journal and seems that you are finding you niche, that peaceful place we all have to find. so glad that you are doing well and enjoying life. the desert sounded like fun. we love to go to tombstone az. which is in the high desert. it is one of our fave. places on earth...hi shaye 1984. welcome. wishing you good luck on your 240's club, hope you check in and let us know how it is going. katie 2010 hope that you are hanging in there girl. Karen hope everything is well with you. justluckie.. welcome to the group also. I am in east Texas in the piney woods near the big thicket area. it is hot here too girl. hot and humid. the treadmill has become my best friend, but I do get to the pool for laps in summer. we have property and access to pool and amentities where we own the property. I use the treadmill year round, because even when it cools off we have such a**h**e r drivers around here you can't even walk on our oil top roads( that are so narrow that two cars can't pass on them.) it is very dangerous. sad because kids can't ride there bikes and none of us can walk... what is this world coming too....... and we live in the country........ anyway hello fellow texan..martoon hope all is well with you too and you are settling in to your new place. might mention to the downstairs neighbors you work out sometime. find out what their scedules are and maybe there are times they are at work and you are home. worth a try anyway other wise.... just do it and if they complain talk to them about it then. I am sure you can work something out. I remember that wonderful apartment life. I had partiers living next to me. every weekend(and sometimes during the week also) it would sound like they were throwing bodies down the stairs. aw the fun of youth. haha.
Leelee, where are you going on your cruise? I love cruising! I know they have food available 24/7 but I've never had a problem keeping food under control because they have lots of fruits, veggies and healthy options too. Just DO NOT go to the midnight buffet! Also, the upside to any high waves are nausea which keep the eating at bay. Ha ha!
Penny, glad to hear your hanging in there and making use of the pool. Can you believe it's 4th of July weekend and it's barely 80 degrees here? BTW, I'm staying in Long Island NY for the weekend at my inlaws.
The good news is that I kept my food under control today but the bad news is I got rear ended and my car has got a about $5000 worth of damage to it. It wasn't my fault at all, so I'm sure they're insurance will cover it, but it still sucks to get in to an accident while out of town. We're all ok...the car was filled with my hubby and myself as well as our 3 little kids and my elderly mother in law. What a fun way to start the holiday weekend!
I brought my jogging shoes with me so I'm hoping to get out for a jog tomorrow but I'm not feeling very motivated. Maybe I'll feel more like it in the morning.
I hope everyone has a great weekend! Celebrate sensibly!!!
Sorry, I forgot to paste the message to this posting and can't figure out how to delete it. Silly me!
I'd like to join, too.
I'll be 64 in August 2009, and weigh 383 lbs as of last Thursday (June 26, 2009) in my doctor's office. I decided that this is the last straw for me and I absolutely have to do something about it. I suffer with osteoarthritis and my joints have been really painful these past few weeks. I actually had gained ten lbs from the previous doctor's appointment earlier in the year which was actually a surprise, but it explains all the extra pain I've been suffering...and fatigue. This is the most I've ever weighed, but I also have diabetes II, and high blood pressure which are more reason I MUST lose this weight.
I know the ten pounds in eight days is probably mostly fluids. A safe weight to lose per week for me is between .5 and 2 lbs per week.
Keeping tabs on what I eat, and the amounts is crucial to my succeeding on this new program. I've been on many different kinds of diets, and even those where I lost weight didn't last long. I'd lose 15 lbs or so and then hit a plateau where I just couldn't lose even one more lb. The only thing I'd lose after that was an interest in going on with the diet. I believe this program will help make me accountable for what I eat so I will eat healthier foods, and be aware of the calorie intake and nutrients. I'm very exited about it.
What I'd like to know are things like, not only maximum calorie intake, but how many units of the different nutrients should I have. How much sodium per day for someone on a low salt diet? Sugar (I have diabetes II), carbs, fiber, etc. What are the limits allowed? I haven't found all this on the CC site yet.
If you are interested, my first journal entry tells more about my dieting history...even when I was 14 years old and my doctor gave me diet pills that are now a controlled substance...a bad experience.
I hope to hear from others who have a lot of weight to lose. I've always been shy and don't usually get into discussions. But here I feel I can talk about my weight with others who understand because they've had similar issues to mine in losing weight. So far I've only seen one other person who has more weight to lose than I do.
My current goal is to lose another 12 lbs by my birthday on August 13th. With the time required to safely lose all the weight I'd like to lose, small goals are a must!
My stats are as follows:
Start Weight: 383 lbs (June 26, 2009)
Goal Weight: 149 lbs (June 23, 2012)
Status as of July 2, 2009: Lost 7 lbs total, 234 lbs to go! A great start!
Status as of July 3, 2009: Lost 10 lbs total, 231 lbs to go!
hi crazyquilt. welcome to the group. we have alot of great people here. It is the most supportive uplifting group ever. You have taken the big step, deciding it is time to do something. getting real on your calories and portions will be very beneficial to you. I know it was to me. I was 280 when I started about a year and a half ago and now I am 210-215ish. I lost most of my weight in a 6 month period after back surgery and have been on a plateau since, but am steadily sticking to the program and to exercise (alot). right now I need to drop my calories by about 300 or 400 to keep my weight loss going, but have been maintaining the last 9 months or so. Losing the weight will help so much with the arthritis and everything. the diabetes will improve. many that I know have been able to go off diabetic meds all together with weight loss and diet control. the problem with plateaus is that we get discouraged and give up. I was determined not to give back anything of the ground that I have conquered. so far I have managed to hold on to it. when we hit these plateaus we have to realize that we need to change something either less calories, or more exercise. it is that simple really. I am trying to get real with myself right now about that . I keep saying I am sticking to the plan, but the plan needs to be revised as we lose weight, it is ever evolving. our bodies to get used to a certain amt. of calories at every level, then we have to drop them at intervals when we reach a new goal weight. be careful in the beginning to not go too low on your calories either that can be just as detrimental. you have to take into consideration your current weight and what sort of exercise you can do. ( about exercise do whatever you can, whether you think is so little it won't count or not, it all helps.-- if you have a pool you can get to, go there) exercise is crucial to getting our metabolism back on track..... I am not very learned on the different nutrient charts and things on here, when I started I started my own notebook in which I track my weight, measurements, daily calorie intake, exercise or burn for the day. hopefully someone else can help you with using the tools on here as I just don't usually have time for them. I do keep track though. One thing you have on your side is the more weight you have to lose the easier the first lbs are when you really get serious. like i said those first 60 lbs flew off me, then whammo. I hope you find cc a great tool for your weight loss goals. the support of this thread " 200 weight loss buddies" and of my journaling buddies has been so crucial for me to staying on track this time compared to all the other times I have tried. they are there to help, lend an ear, lend a shoulder or do whatever is needed to help you get to your goal. for that I am truly greatful. will add you as buddy
Hey Gang. Welcome Crazyquilt! You've found a great group of friends here. Like Penny said, this is the most supportive group I've found on CC in the year and a half that I've been here. I went from 250lbs to 190 and despite making it to wonderland I refuse to leave this group...there's no place else like it. It really feels like home!
Penny, my wise friend, you will succeed! Keep on fighting the fight...I think revising the "plan" is key. When I ramped up the exercise by adding in strength training on my non-jog days I saw a spike in my weight loss. It got me over the 199 hump and now I'm hoping to see 189 any day now!
I'm happy to report that I had a great holiday weekend out of town and managed to stay on target with my calories (but flaked on the exercise). It was a big challenge for me since weekends have been my downfall lately. I've been working all week to lose the weight I gain on the weekend. I've lost 4lbs in the last 2 months, but as Bonnie pointed out in my journal...it's better than gaining 4lbs!
Hope everyone had a safe and healthy 4th! :) Jodi
Hi everyone,
Hope everybody enjoyed the July 4th weekend.
Welcome crazyquilt. As Jodi and Penny said this is a great group. I agree with Jodi that it is the most supportive group I;ve found on cc.
Jodi - the cruise is to the Bahama's and I think we stop in a couple of other islands too. Can't wait. I'm glad to hear that there are a lot of healthy options on the cruise. I've been worried about it, because I want to enjoy myself, but I don't want to come away gaining a bunch of weight. I've heard about the dreaded Midnight buffet, LOL, and plan to stay away!!
leelee
hi all. Leelee hope you have a wonderful time on the cruise. I am still trying to talk hubby into going on one. maybe one of these days. I have an older cousin that took his wife on one out of Galveston to mexico a little while ago. I wouldn't have thought he would have liked it, but he said they had a blast. Jodi, glad to hear that you are still having luck and losing. I feel that soon maybe I will get my ducks back in a row. I guess I have been getting nervous with hubbies knee surgery coming up soon ( july 14)and some other things that have been going on. I am keeping up pretty much with my exercise though, eventhough I haven't been able to lower my calories like I think I should have. I say haven't been able, well being real, I just haven't I know I can if I will, I just haven't. Hope everyone had a wonderful 4th, and is back on track with their plans today.
Lee lee, I did a 3 day bahama cruise with my mom a long time ago. I really liked it. We were stopped in Nassau the weekend that Atlantis (a big hotel) opened. We had enough time to get off the boat, do a little shopping and tour the hotel.
there are lots of ways to stay active on the boat...my favorite was dance lessons. The rocking of the boat helped make us look good. You couldn't tell if we were tripping over our feet or if the waves were tipping us over. Ha ha!Penny, good luck with you hubby's surgery. I'm sure he'll be fine, but it's never easy taking care of a stubborn patient (which most men are!) Don't forget to take care of yourself as well.
Well friends, I'm feeling a bit conflicted. I'm super proud of myself because I've been doing GREAT with logging my food and staying within my calories, but I'm disappointed in myself because I haven't exercised in 5 days. I know I deserve a little break, but things have been so busy with summer vacation, weekends away (we went away last weekend and we're going away this weekend too) plus the kids are home all day (I have 3 ages 3, 5 & 7) and on top of it all I got called in to do a little consulting work and I have to get my car to the body shop (someone hit me over the weekend) and I just can't seem to find the time or energy to exercise. I need a pep talk or an extra hour in the day!
I'm not going to stress about it. I'm just going to keep eating right and hope that things slow down a little soon. I think more than anything I'm just scared that I'm going to slip back into my old sedentary ways.
Good morning everyone! Well, I didn't totally blow it over the Fourth of July weekend. I am still hovering at 250. I didn't get to exercise while my stepson was visiting, but we were on the go most of the time, so I think that helped. But as of Monday morning, I was back on the bike.
Jodi, I don't think you could ever count yourself as sedentary with three children ages 3, 5 & 7. lol Sorry to hear about your fender bender, but glad everyone was okay. Congratulations on being close to 189. Tell 189 that I plan on seeing him someday too. I'm just taking the scenic route.
Penny, good luck with your hubby's knee surgery. As Jodi said, I'm sure he'll be fine, but if he's anything like my husband, he will be an impatient patient. They can be such babies.
Leelee, your cruise sounds like fun. I am trying to talk my husband into going on one, but he isn't thrilled about it. He doesn't want to be "stuck" on a boat with a bunch of people he doesn't know. My daughter & son-in-law took the Bahamas cruise and loved it. They are helping me work on my husband. lol
Craazyquilt, welcome to the group. We have the same birthday, August 13! I started off at 295 in October, 2008, and have made it down to 250ish. I fluctuate between 248 and 253, but hope to be over this plateau soon. It helped me to look at my weight loss in 10 pound increments or "decades" as my daughter & I call them. I hope to be in a new decade soon.
Bonnie, love your profile picture. It looks fun, like you. :)
Thank you all for the constant words of encouragment as I struggle to get off this stupid plateau. You all are what keep me going!
Hope everyone has a great day!
Gracie
Hi gals... grace so glad you are committed to the restart of exercise on that bike.. you have done so well... keep it moving.. I agree with Gracie, Jodi.. its near impossible not to be active with three young kids... bummer about your car... but miraculous that no one was hurt!.... what kind of consulting?
Crazyquilt.. boy did you luck into the right group... this place is the best! Keep coming back!
Sarah... we be the girls who don't quit... I saw NOTHING move for nearly two months ... while exercising everyday like a crazy girl, while keeping count of every morsel, while sharing and listening, and eating right... the lesson... WE DON'T EVER GIVE UP... so no matter how long it may take... we are in it for the long haul...
I am sore muscles today from doubling my resistance weight yesterday... but this is a three week bootcamp for me (weeks 9-11) on my P90x... so I accept it.. gotta get my food more interesting today...
New play coming along... AMY performances nearly all booked for July... and startng toplan trip this weekend for early Sept... busy but cooled out ... keep going you guys... I WILL!!!!!

Yes, thankfully we are all fine. I've got a rental now and should have my car back in a week or two.
Sarah, Bonnie is 100% right! Quitting is not an option! I've been at this 2 long years and perserverance is the key! A rough week, month or season doesn't mean it's the end...just a bump in the road.
Bonnie, you're amazing fitting in double workouts with your busy busy schedule. I was a PR and Marketing professional before leaving it all behind 2 years ago to concentrate on my family. Every once in a while I get called in to help with some creative at my friend's experiential marketing company (sampling).
Gracie, I suppose you're right...I'm not sedentary, but there hasn't been any purposeful exercise this week. ![]()
Well, this afternoon we're heading out on a short camping trip so I'll be mia for a few days. Have a great weekend everyone!
Happy Friday everyone!
Jodi, hope you have a nice weekend getaway. Camping sounds like lots of fun, except in FL you'd either die from the heat or the bugs. :) I have been carrying an Omron pedometer in my pocket for the last few months and it amazes me at how much walking I get in during a day (or how little, depending on the day). But, I know what you mean about purposeful exercise. Even though I am walking during the day much more than I used to, I still find it hard to think of it as exercise unless it's done during a set period of time.
Bonnie, you are amazing. I've watched the P90X infomercials when I'm riding my bike in the morning (I like to see other people sweat & suffer while I am - misery loves company) and they are brutal. I'll bet your muscles are sore. Good for you at keeping it up.
Hope everyone has a great weekend.
Gracie
Hope everyone is doing good. just a request please keep hubby and I in your thoughts and prayers about his knee surgery. especially at 7am on tues when he goes through surgery. I will go and stay with him at least the first night. they think he may come home on the 2nd day after surgery. that would he amazing.
Penny, you and your husband are in my thoughts & prayers for a safe & successful surgery. Where is he having it done? I know TX has some great medical centers.
And I'll be thinking of you as you nurse him back to health. I hope he's not as big a baby as my husband. lol
Hi guys, thats me connected in the new flat now. Im pretty sure ive put on a bit last couple weeks but Im raring to go and get going with the weight loss again now that i have my support system back. Gonna head to the scaled on way to work to see what the damage is.
I stil fit in all the clothes so It shouldnt be too much I just dont have the muscles I spend all that time building up.
I am going away for the weekend next weekend and wanted to look really good for that so Im kinda dissapointed ive let it go a bit but I still look better than before.
Penny, Hope the surgeries go well and he doesnt take advantage of you too much with his injuries. Sending you to get everything for him all day :P
Bonnie, You have come on so much since I was last on - so proud of you. Welldone for keeping it up!
Jodi, Have fun with the camping. I love camping but havent been in so long. Being out in the wilderness haha. I love the fact I can hear the birds chirping in the morning in my new flat!.
Welcome all the newbies since I have been away!
Penny, warm wishes and heartfelt thoughts for your hubby and you. I hope all goes well tomorrow. HUgs! PS. Love the new picture
Martoon, glad you're back! I missed you. I know what you mean. I still fit in the same clothes but I haven't ran or done any resistence training in almost 2 weeks and I'm feeling a little disappointed in myself. But I did mow the lawn today and ours doesn't help you push so it's a good workout.
Camping was fun. Lots of crappy food...hot dogs, baked beans and a few too many smores, but I'm back home and back on track.
However, the upside of camping was the beautiful hike we took with the kids. It was pretty strenuous and to top it off my 38lb 3 year old spent at least 1/2 of the 90 minutes hike on my shoulders! They also had a nice beach which we spent much of the day at on Saturday.
I'm hoping to work a run back into my schedule this week. Wish me luck!
Glad you had fun. Sounds like a good little trip. I used to love kiddyback rides.
I checked the scales and I couldnt believe it... ive not put on or lost. Im exactly the same! Even though I look so different from not exercising. Ive ate rubbish and no exercise but not put on anything. Blessed???
Off to the circus tomorrow night woop!
