Hi everyone! Just started my healthy lifestyle yesterday ( I hope, for the last time-NO MORE YOYOING!!). Was wondering if I could joing your group? Definitely going to need a kick in the butt sometime in the near future. I also have no fear of giving someone else a swift kick if they need it!
I'm 21 yrs old, 5'4 and 212 lbs. In the past yr, I've yoyo-ed from 218 to 190 and now back to 212. I WILL NOT allow myself to go back to 218!!!
A big motivation for me is also my mum. she's gained a lot in a short period of time and I'm beginning to really fear for her health. She refuses to go see a doc, and basically doesn't do much exercise. I'm hoping that if she sees me losing the weight it'll get her going. If not then I know that I can't do anything about it, but it'll still remind me of what I DON'T want to become (as harsh as that sounds...)
My major goal for the month of august is to lose 6lbs

Welcome gbsfan! I agree with everyone else this group is great. I tried to join other groups on here but I like this one the most.
thanks! it does! Doesn't it feel great to make the decision to change your life?
Feeling the blues -
Making a decision to change your life does not mean it is going to happen.....
I have been working hard on this. Dropped my calories from 2000-2250 or more a day to averaging 1650. My dietician didn't want me to cut the cals too extreme cause he did not want me to slip into starvation metabolism.
I work out at the gym for 2 hours a week, every week - more if I can. Vigourous work out. 2 30 min sessions with personal trainer and cardio.
I lost only 6 pounds since May !!!! And have not only stopped loosing but have gained a pound. I have lost over 14 inches - but that does not help - it just seems like a consolation prize.
I weigh 322 and WILL get to 180 pounds. Just don't know what I need to do that I am not doing to get their in a healthy manner.
Now life is about to get more hectic as school starts back for my son.
Ideas, motivations, hugs, help

Awww jell... you can't feel like that, you just can't!
First of all... I don't know if you ever read my post about "the stalled scale".. . but I feel that way ALL of the time...
I go to bed hungry... wake up in the morning thinking... Okay! I definitely lost today!... and still NOTHING...
But 6 pounds is NOTHING to sneeze at... My gosh... think what six BOXES of butter would look like piled up... look at a six pound rurkey! That's a lot of weight to take off of your body...
and try to revel in how good your body feels from going to the gym... how much easier it is to go up some stairs... how much MORE you can do at the gym than you used to...
It's not about weighting 180 pounds.. . it's not about some mental "finish line"... it really is about living a different life than you did before... and if you're not seeing results... it sucks... I TOTALLy agree... BUT you have to focus on the positive.
I'm nervous about "back to school" from the other end... I'm a teacher.. and right now I can spend HOURS at the gym... and HOURS here.. .and still go out to dinner with my husband, do the laundry.. .the dishes.. and lay by the pool for an hour! In a couple of weeks... I'll have to cram stuff in... and it's frustrating...
but it's LIFE... and it feel so much better to live a HEALTHY life... you want to be there for your son until he's old and gray, too... soyou owe this to yourself... and to him...
Enjoy it... don't look at it as drudgery... look at it as something GOOD you're doing for yourself...
Oh, and HUGS!!!!!

I'm worried about going back to school as well. But I'm going to be the teach-ee not the teach-er. (haha). Eventually that will be switched as that's why I'm going to school.
But I found out that I got into the program and the school. I'm super excited.
I guess it'll include more exercise, because I have to walk across campus everyday. That's good right? =)
Jellikal: We all know where you're coming from. At least you have a support system here. Keep up the healthy eating!! =)

Ian won't be old and gray - he will be old and bald - like his Dad. < weak grin>
But if the weight does not come off..... I won't be there. I acknowledge that fact. < I won't go into that most of this weight was baby weight that never "melted off" as the ob/gyn promised>
It is 6 pounds lost and one came back on !!! Lost 3 pounds then lost 3 pound sand then stalled and now gained a pound back... but have not increased my calories, have not decreased my activity.
mope mope mope mope
All I see is that my feet and ankles still swell for no reason, I still have low energy, I still can't talk and ride my bike. I still can't wear most of the clothes in my closet. I still have to go to the gym to weigh in cause my scale at home goes "ERR".
Sorry to be a bummer today - I guess I oughta go eat some worms...
HA! wonder how many calories in one steamed and put on a spinach salad.

Okay... this could get slammed.. big time...here... but I KNOW you're working with physical trainers/etc. and it just doesn't seem to be working.
have you gone to anyone who specifically specializes in obesity?
When I was 345 pounds, I went to a program at a hospital... it was fantastic.. Easiest and most successful diet I've ever done.my mindset was just wrong. I told everyone it was about a "lifestyle" but to me it was wanting a different life... and to me... that different life was about thin...not healthy
Short story... lost 168 pounds in 8 months... from 343 to 175. Felt great about myself...got done with my "diet" got married gained 75 pounds...
So now... my mindset is right... and I'm losing DIFFERENTLY this time...
but sometimes... where you're starting from is sooo overwhelming... I know I wanted the bypass surgery so bad I could TASTE it...but thought I wasn't helping myself that way. Instead I did the hospital program. I'll gladly tell you more if interested.
But either way... I'm so sorry it's a bad day. Can you take a day where you DON'T think about it much? Go outside... go to a movie... look around at Kirklands :-P) something until you can get another day... every day is a fresh start for me... ya know?

jelikal - Worms are protien and can't weight much so can't be many calories!
We have all felt like you do at times. That stalled weight or that unexplained weight gain. Usually it will drop the next week. It is like your body is adjusting to change.

Just got back from work- this thread's been pretty busy today!
jellikal- *hugs* I know how you feel. I really do. The important thing is not to give up though. You mention that you can see/feel the inches coming off but the weight stays the same? Weight is just a number... if the inches are coming off then you're definitely doing something right! Keep going the way you're going, you are really doing great! Don't forget that since you're working out so much, you could be gaining muscle and losing fat, since muscle weights more than fat. and 6lbs down is better than 6lbs up, don't forget that! the important thing is DON'T. GIVE. UP.
rebpi- congrats on getting into the program of your choice! *applause* and walking across campus definitely counts as exercise... although if the campus has a gym, that might help you out even more. Usually school gyms are a) cleaner, b) less packed with people, c) cost less and d) have a better selection of equipment. Its definitely worth looking into.
I, personally, find it easier to work out during the school year because I can go early in the morning, or between classes (if I have a break) and the equipment I want is always free. It also only costs 60$ per semester (so basically 20$ a month if you break it down)...

Hey all--
I have been watching my calories and because of a recent back injury I haven't been exercising for a week but just started back Monday but still not over doing it. The thing is I have been doing some serious weight fluctuating. I will lose and gain 8-10 pounds in one day. That just doesn't seem right. I really haven't lost anything at all. The only thing I can possible attribute it to is not drinking enough water. Although I'm not exercising very strenuously, I just started counting calories 2weeks ago so I should be losing something. Anyone have any suggestions/comments?

Are you weighting yourself everyday, morning and night? I try to weight only once a week or twice a week. This is more of an accurate account of how much you are losing.
Gravity alone will cause you to weight more as the day progresses.
How accurate is your scale? that could cause your fluctuations
Water retention? It is difficult to lose weight if you don?t exercise. Maybe now if you are back to exercising it will become more level.
