anna.. I don't know if this weill help you... but it DOES me...

It's not so much that I'm worried about keeping myself busy... but I go log the calories of whatever I THINK I'm about to eat before I actually eat it.  Usually, it's enough to make me put it back... other times I'll go ahead and make a cup of green tea... it takes me a few minutes to make... and drinking something hot helps to fill up my stomach...  and it makes me crave the other stuff less.

Rebecca - Congratulations on your 35 pound weight loss since June. You're obviously doing something right. Would you care to share your strategy?

TT - You've done great this week! I very often weigh every day too. What is your strategy for weight loss?

Sarah - You should be proud of yourself for keeping under your calorie limit yesterday. Good for you!

Anna - What are you eating during the day when you say you're doing so well during the day. I suspect that there are some healthy foods that you can add during the day that will take away your evening and night time cravings.

Lora - Where are you? How's your day going?
Texasteach - I agree about the green tea. I brought some to work and for some reason, it does make me feel less hungry for awhile. Oddly, hot tea also makes my stomach feel better when I ate too much - the opposite effect! I guess your body just likes warm liquid!
Hey shoe, do you think green tea helps you lose weight. I used to think so, but I'm not sure. What do you think. It probably does, because I haven't drunk it for several weeks now, and I've gained.
I had a very colorful and highly nutritious lunch today. It was:

Huge Garden Salad with
3 cups Romaine,
2 cups Zucchini,
1 cup Onions,
½ cup Black Beans, and
1.5 cups Green and Red peppers;
Olive oil and Red Wine Vinegar Dressing

20 Grapes,

16 oz Water

All of that and only 317 calories

I am here humorpam. Just lurking in the back round. Ha! Ha! I've been busy working on changes in bus maps. I keep hearing that the beginning of school is coming. I have heard that green tea is a appetite suppressant as well as filling you up.

Welcome jmano311-Jump right in and join in the discussion. Let us know how we can help.

Way to go rebepi! welcome to the class 1 obese. I agree that obese is a terrible word.

TT- Glad to here your still doing good. Did you ever figure out what to take to school to snack on to increase your calories?

Sarahip-Hang in there you won't mess it up. Congratulations on having extra calorie left over at the end of the day.

Wonder where sadaboutthis is and how she is doing? Check in with us sad!

Anna- Don't worry about sounding so needy We are here for you and we don't judge anyone on here. We understand because we have been there. I have a hard time at night too. I am here by myself and I just get bored and do this mindless munching. Especially if I am watching TV. Make a list of thing you need to do and try to work on them instead of eating. Have you ever tried the snack "Quakes" they have a good Carmel one if you have a sweet tooth.

Where is my twin? Clwhit hope you are having a better week.

Lora

Yay! Lorabear! You're here! I know what that lurking is like. Thanks for the input on green tea.
humorpam: Honestly, I don't really think I have much of a strategy. I've gotten really good at saying no to junk food when it's offered and letting myself eat something crappy every once in a while. But other than that, I don't even count calories. (sorry guys!!). I have a really good idea of the amount of calories I'm eating anyway, although because I don't count I have a tendency to eat not enough calories instead of too many.

I wish I had better advice for people from experience. I just stopped eating junk food and started saying no to everything that didn't have a nutrition label on it (and if it did, mostly I said no anyway because it was too fatty or too something or other)

I'm really not all the helpful. Sorry =)
Glad to see so many posts lately. Sorry I have been too busy to post. Well I learned my lesson today. I have been really wanting Taco Bell lately and I went ahead and got some today. And boy do I regret it. I feel horrible. I guess my body just doesn't want that knid of food anymore.

Isn't funny That the food we use to crave and found delicious no longer taste the same. When we eat healthy and then eat junk food we really don’t feel good anymore……..

I really don’t count calories either. I know what and how much to eat from being diabetic for so many years. ( I just don't like to.)I can’t weight myself every day either. I get discouraged if I gain weight one day and become depressed. I only weight myself once a week then I know if I have lost weight

Humorpam your lunch sounded good. I don’t know about the black beans on salad though. I like black beans I just don't think I would on salad. I am going to try it. Keep passing on the recipes.

Lora

You might be surprised. I hadn't had black beans on salad until a few weeks ago, and decided to try it, and I needed some protein and didn't have any meat to put on it, and wanted protein with very little fat, so I decided to try the black beans on it and really liked it.

Yes, I took all of the advice about snacks... and I make sure to have fruit with me.. it's perfect.  I can munch on it during conference periods... relatively high calorie... and I don't have to worry about fat.

On my way home from work, I eat an energy bar so that I dont have that "attack the fridge" mentality when I walk in the door!

My "strategy" is to stay really consistent.  I log EVERYTHING... every bite that goes into my mouth.  If I know I have a high calorie day upcoming, I plan out a few extra LOW calories the day before so that my average stays at my target.

I don't try to restrict TOO much because that leads to failure feelings and binges.  I do restrict WHAT I eat but I keep my calories at around 1800... when I was trying to do 1200 I was hungry... and depressed... because i couldn't keep that low and even eat protein really... or enough of it to be satisfied... at 1800... I am PLENTY satisfied... and still steadily losing 2 pounds or more a week... with no desire to cheat.  I say CHEAT for a reason.  I go over calories probably once a month... but that's not a CHEAT... I plan for it... that way I'm never deterred.

This week is a little weird for me because my body is "talking" to me.  I generally do extremely strenuous workouts... but I have some minor twinges here and there... and it's not sore muscles... it's joints and nerves and some things that feel like pulls and tears... nothing major.. but I haven't taken a day off of working out in about three months... so I"m going REALLY light this week... and I did reduce my calories some.

In response to the green tea question.  I have a "friend" online who is carefully maintaining and has been for 18 months... since taking green tea supplements, she's losing without trying even after increasing calories... so... that's just ONE situation.. and not a scientific study... so I have no clue... but I'm going to keep up with the tea anyway because i know it can't be BAD for me!

Thanks for all the information TT. You've been a big help and inspiration. Keep up the good work!

Good morning everyone! It is going to be a beautiful day! I am thinking positive today.

What kind of power bars to you eat TT? I was wondering if anyone can recommend any. The Lara bars that janeau123 talked about sounded pretty good. What happened to you janeau?

Lora

Hey all!

Just been catching up on all the posts.

repebi - I am a little like you in that I am not much of a calorie counter, but I have become a nutrition label reader.

One of my biggest challenges was to get off the coke (the drink :P), I could easily drink 2 litres a day, a sugar nightmare! I am now free of that particular addiction.

Taken the advice re: hubby, we now eat seperate meals, more work, but more effective.

Lost the exercise motivation recently, not quite sure what happened was loving it. Think it may be due to a lack of sleep (writing PhD so working odd hours).

Anyways think I am down about 1-2 libs this week, I will take that :)

lotsa love to you all

x
Hey Pam, I haven't found any increase in weight loss from drinking green tea, so I don't know from experience. I saw what you've said before about it being a huge part of your food plan, so I actually started drinking it more because of you! But I haven't been drinking a TON of it, so it probably has made no real difference for me. I tried doing some research and basically I found a big Maybe. So like you said, texasteach - it can't be bad for me.

I haven't considered supplements. I suppose it's possible, but I don't want to let myself wander into the world of "miracle drugs". I'm afraid if I did, I could go crazy trying different things and trying to find the magical one, which won't exist. You know?

Good morning

Well last night went well I had a small popcorn no butter and diet coke.  I had no time for dinner but I did eat lunch later in the day.  Today is a new day and going to be a great start.

Thanks for all of the ideas and inspiration I feel so good right now and my will power is there so I am going to hang on to it.

I will come on later and tell you how my day is going.  Looking forward to reading all of your posts I get alot out of them.

big hugs

anna

So, I had seen a post about smoking burning extra calories in a day and I wasn't sure I really believed that, so I found like 10 articles on different medical websites that state that this is true. They say that if you smoke a pack a day (which I do) you burn an extra 250 calories on average.

I'm pretty worried about this. Nothing on this site lets me put in that I'm a smoker so this doesn't get taken into account. I run on the low side of calories on an average day and that might mean I'm actually in starvation mode...

It would put me closer to 1000 - 1100 on days that I'm working and probably around 1450 on days that I don't work.

Anyone think this is something to worry about? Or am I just being paranoid?

rebepi- I am I understanding you correctly that you only eat 1000-1100 calories a day when you work? 1450 cals on days you don't work? That does seem low to me. I have always been told not to go under 1500 calories on any diet.

Lora

Lorabear: I reread what I wrote and confused myself. Here's what I meant...  Smoking a pack a day burns an extra 250 calories a day over what your body normally burns (for whatever reason, boosting metabolism or something).

On an average work day I eat about 1350 so with the extra 250 calories taken off that I didn't know I was burning... that makes it 1100 to 1000ish depending on the day. That's what I'm worried about. I didn't know that I was burning extra otherwise I would have taken that into account with my eating.

This would have been about the average for the past 2 months that I've been on this diet.. I'm worried that I've got to be in some sort of starvation mode at this point.

I'm going to gain a lot of weight back, aren't I? Crap.
