I don't know what my scale will show on Sunday when it's time for me to weigh. Actually, for one challenge I have to weigh in tomorrow. ARG! I've been eating well, exercising what little amount I've been able to, but I don't feel like I've lost any. Wish me luck.

Welcome Trapp, Leo, Christina, dvanderk, Kim, Aimee, Kris, and Blayne! Come on in, take your shoes off, set a spell, and visit with us. And best wishes in your weight loss adventures! We are all here to support each other. To share, laugh, cry, motivate and root for each other.
I was wondering what everyone thought about protein bars. I work on Fridays unitil 1 so no lunch by the time I get off I am starving and it is real easy to go through a drive through so I was thinking about picking up a protein bar. What do yall think?
Protein bars generally have alot of sugars, don't they. I think taking a quarter cup of nuts or sunflower seeds with you would be better for you. They are a little higher in fat, but it's all good fat.
i agree with pam...nuts, yogurt, edamame (soybeans) or something else with a bit of protien as a snack should cure the hunger pangs.

I love edamame (get the slightly salted frozen ones and thaw before eating). They taste great, fill me up and keep me full!

Tim's Theory on Weighing and Scales

I weigh myself every day, with the same scale, at the same time, wearing the same clothing.

I do all of the above, the way I do it because it will give me a consistant result (as much as possible)

I do it every day for two reasons:

    1. The more data points you have the more accurate your analysis.
    2.  If things get off track I can spot it quicker and take action.

A lot of people have told me to weigh once a week; that daily fluctionations can make you crazy (water retention, etc).  I don't really sweat the small daily changes.  If I go up a pound or two...I will be very careful that nothing is sneaking in the next day...or I will go for a walk. For me I have to keep track of this every day.

The other thing is if I weighed once a week and found I had gained, it would feel like I "waisted" a week.  But that is how I am wired.

The real trick is you have to find what works for you and stick with it.
I never thought of the sugar thanks guys I will try the nuts. Good idea. I am just trying to avoid that drive thru.
Pam,

There are a number of bars out there that have little sugar and/or alternative sweeteners.  You are correct that most do have a lot of sugars.

bar question...

I'm going out to the bar tonight for a going away party for two of my old roomates. One is moving to Georgia and the other to Vegas for teaching jobs (there is nothing here in MI!). Anyways, i'd like to be able to have a drink or two with them...any suggestions for some lower cal drinks? Keep in mind I'm not a beer drinker so light beer won't work.

Thanks!

I'm from Michigan too! What city do you live in? I'm on the west side of the state in Grand Rapids.

So... I'm looking for some practical ideas on how to continue to lose weight. What do you find to be helpful.

These are some of the things I've done over the past 6 months to help me lose 80 lbs.

  • replacing salty and sugary snacks with fruits and veggies
  • exercising for an hour each day
  • changing up my workout routine. I get bored easily so I've done a variety of different things, including walking, elliptical, weight training, tennis, step aerobics, and my favorite... yoga
  • keeping a food journal and following the WW points system... I eat more points than they tell me to, but I keep it under 32 on most days
I would love to hear some thoughts from others too!
I'm from Livonia, MI which is about 30-45 min outside of detroit. Right now i'm finishing up my bachelor's at EMU, one semester of classes, and one semester of student teaching to go!

I'm with you! I am almost 20 years old (my birthday is next week) and I am over a hundred pounds over weight. I have set realistic goals. My first goal was to lose 30 pounds over the summer, and I am half way there! 16 pounds lost so far, 14 more to go over the next 47 days. I can do this!

I have been keeping my calories below 1600 daily, on most days I consume about 1300. I am doing well so far but with my weight staying exactly the same over the last five days, I am a little frustrated.
Cool Beans!~ welcome ilovemybike. Were glad to have you join us. You are right you can do this and we will help you get there!

I know how frustrating it can get at times, we all do. But hang in there you will lose it!

Sarah~
Hi everyone,
Do you have room for 1more? I am currently 265 and 5'1". My highest weight was 280 sometime last year. I got down to 244 in October because of surgery (no not weight loss surgery) but I have crept back up since then. The surgery was a complete hysterectomy. I'm healed up and starting to get alarmed by the pounds piling on lately. I need to lose this weight to get HEALTHY!!
Welcome aboard Rosiemom,we will help you along the way to better health and have fun chatting too. Glad you joined us. :)

hi everyone!!
if there's still space i'd love to join.  i'm at 205 right now...after losing 5 lbs i went away.  i tried to watch what i ate but was unable to excercise like i wanted.  gained back about 2 lbs.  but have lost 1 already (phew)  i really need motivation to keep me running (my new form of excercise).  i love running,  i'm just very good at porcrastinating too! :S  glad i found this group and hope we can all help each other!  my goal weight is to be 180 lbs for october 31st (midway)  and 150 lbs by the end of may.  do you think this goal is realistic?  it seems to fit the parameters set by calorie count.  i might just be second guessing myself.
I don't have time to read through all the posts so far, but this is such a great idea, and I'd love to join in. :-D I'm 17, 5'5", 203 pounds, down from 205 last week, and down, ultimately, from 218 pounds. My goal is 135-140 pounds by March 1st, 2008. :-D

I'll come back along and read the posts tomorrow, after I get some sleep, but keep up the great work everyone and don't give up hope!

=Andry
can i join too - i weigh 255 and want to get down to 140 - am i too late?
Hello Everyone!  It's warming to see so much care in one place.  I hope to be able to learn & contribute each day.  It's good to have accountability too!  I've been a real yo-yo weight all my life.  I'm at my all time highest and it's gotten harder to stick to a diet and to exercise.  So all the help and support is truly appreciated!

J
Good morning everyone. Ain't God good! Start your day with a prayer of thanksgiving. It will change the way the rest of your day goes.

I'd like to offer a big welcome to Grace, Andry, Fattypuff, and Joyce. We're here to help each other, so join right in.

I'm pleased this morning. I did my weekly weigh in this morning and I lost 4 pounds this week, that's 10 pound total for July and an overall total of 36 pounds.
