Hello Lora,

I'm doing ok not great but ok I ate well all week and worked out too but the scale did not go down! but I am hopeful it will next week ! Its got to!! So how r u doing? how was your week?

I am just doing Sara. Not good not bad. Weight is just hanging around 264-266 but I haven't been really trying all that much. Same old story I just can't seem to get motivated.

Your looking good Sara I noticed you had put a new picture on.

Lots of snow here. We've had several days off from school If you have time take a look at the picture of my poor little boy on a tractor in my gallery. There are also a few pictures of the pine trees from last week.

I thought I had seen recently that someone had joined that lived in Michigan but can't seem to find you. Whoever you are if you see this let me know who you are. I live in the thumb of Michigan.

Lora

OK I guess I will start talking to myself.

How are you doing self? Oh not too bad I just weighted in and I am still at 264 lbs. Is that what you weighted last week? No I had a bad week last week and I had gained weight but this is my lowest weight since I joined. Hey self what are you doing about it? Well I decided to watch more closely what I ate and like always eat more veggies and Fruits. How is that working for you? Pretty good so far except that night time eating. Why is it so hard not to eat at night? Maybe you are watching too much TV. Do you think so self? Yes Why don't you try to work on that quilt that is sitting in front of you instead? OK I think I will give that a try. Maybe I will talk to myself more later. BYE!

Lora

Hi Lora and all!

I have been really ill for the last two weeks and haven't really been online that much at all....today I am going to work out for the first time since I got sick.  I weighed in and I only lost a pound in the last two weeks.

Lora, I am sorry I wasn't around yesterday to see your post...I have been there and it feels a little lonely.

Get up and move everybody!!!

I would love to join this thread.  It is inspirational (I love hearing about success!) and entertaining.  I found Lora's conversation with Self cute.  I hope you meant it to be funny because I took it that way.  Of course I have always heard there is sometimes sadness behind humor so I hope you weren't sad.

I have read a lot of this Long, Long thread but I am going to go back and read the rest.

I have a lot to lose.  I am a 53 YO wife and mother to my 25 YO son and a grandmother to my almost 18 month old grandson.  I have lost about 15 pounds since joining this site in January.  I don't know exactly how much because I am nuts.  I was afraid to get on the scale until I had been following this plan for a few weeks because I was afraid the realization of my weight would throw me into a fit of depression eating....I told y'all I am nuts!  I am at 260 now and my first goal is to get below 250.  249 would give me quite the ego boost as I would be closer to 200 than to 300....Did I say "nuts"?

I hope there is still an opening in this group.  I have noticed some have been closed to new members so I have my fingers crossed that y'all have room for at least one more.

Well, I am off to read all the triumphs, trials and tribulations of this group.  Hope everyone has a great week!

I missed you telling us "Get up and move" Kate. sorry to hear you have been sick.

Welcome Karefreeman join right in and tell us about yourself. Congratulations on your weight loss. I have been told I am "nuts" too so you should fit right in. What do you perfer to be called.

Yes I meant the post to be funny although it is very therapeutic to type to one's self. You should try it

Lora

Hello I am hoping to join all of you.  I am a 32 year old mother of 3.  I am 289 and would like to be at 170.  I too would look silly at what everyone says I should weigh.  I am setting a short term goal of 50 pounds over the next 5 months.  I just need the suport and hope that cc and this site will be what I am looking for.

You all have been doing a great job keep it up!

Angie

Thanks for the welcome, Lora.  That was my grandmothers name.  You can call me Karen.  That is my real name.

I am haunting the internet looking for for healthy prepare ahead meals that I might be able to cook Monday-Thursday and then re-heat on Friday, Saturday and Sunday when my grandson Luke visits.  I am finding it difficult to organize my health and my home when the toddler is afoot!  He is a joy though and one of the reasons I am trying to lose weight.  I want to be here to see him grow up!  Soups will have to do for a while, I guess, but I know Paul my husband will revolt if I don't come up with some other dishes soon.  Is there such a thing as  healthy, low cal casserole?

I think listing the veggies for the day is a good idea.  I would give me incentive to get in those fruits AND veggies.

Dakabina, I know what you mean.  If I were to weigh what they say I am suppose to weigh I would never be able to maintain and would not look like myself.  I think it is an individual thing and that we are all different.

Hey ya'll!

I'm new to this, but I saw this forum and wanted to join in the fun.  I'm 48 with two teenagers (EGADS!) and am married to a very supportive husband.  I work full time so I have to make time for myself to work out.

I started my new healthy lifestyle (I HATE the word DIET) in September and have lost over 40 lbs thusfar.  I did okay during the holidays, but now am having a hard time getting motivated again.  I currently weigh 290 (give or take a pound or two) and my ultimate goal weight is 180.

3 days a week I work out at the YMCA with water running, swimming with a kickboard and water weights.  (I wonder by this site doesn't show the calorie counts on using the water weights - trust me, it can do wonders for your cardio, not to mention the jiggly stuff under your arms.)  AND I also do "Zumba" at the Y - think Brazilian dancing for 50 solid minutes.  I am BY FAR the heaviest person, but I'm hanging in there.

I'm looking for and to give support for those of us who work everyday to try to be better people.  It's not so much the weight you lose, but the love you gain.

Welcome Karen and Angie!!!

It will be great to hear from you and learn your story and about your journeys.   Angie, Ellie Krieger on the Food Network has revamped some comfort food favorites so that they are healthy...they look good, and my husband and I are trying some of the recipes from Dr. Oz and Roziems hand book about YOU book, and they are great.  I have been working on better eating since last October and I dont crave fast food anymore...I will admitt that I do crave cheesecake and chocolate, but all things in moderation.

I got up and moved this morning and feel wonderful!! Won't ya'll join me???;)

EDIT: I posted as LUVHIM posted; Welcome luvhim!!!!

Thanks Kate!  I did yoga this am but it is REALLY slow yoga.  I promised myself I would ride the recumbent later but later is here and so far I haven't.  I WILL do it before long though, I promise.  And thanks for the reminder!

Hi, luvhim!  Sounds like you are a very busy lady!  Zumba looks like fun!

The two of you have prompted me to keep my promise and get on my recumbent.  I'll check back in later.

Karen

Thanks I think day 1 is going good.  Got a long road ahead but I need to stay in the now and let the future happen.  I did make a very comfort food meal but did ok with it.  With all of the food logged for the day I still can eat about 300 calories.  One question though.  How does the whole burned calories as far as eating go.  Do I need to add calories depening on what I did that day.  I am starting slow but did do 15 minutes so far on the treadmill and will try to do 15 more before I call it quits for the day.  Do I need to add for the calories burned or is that figured in..  I want to loose the most weight possible as efficent as possible.  Any suggestions.

I also would like some suggestions on some fun exercises to do.  Have a treadmill and can use son's weight bench but my knees hurt all the time.  (from all the weight they are carring around on to of some past injuries)  I just want something fun that I can do and keep motivated with.  Hate to waste money on stuff that I will not stick with and can't do.

Thanks everyone!

Angie

Angie,  I am new to this site as well.  I joined just last month but I will tell you everything I think I have learned since joining.  If I am wrong PLEASE someone more knowledgeable than I am correct me before I lead Angie astray!

You do not want to have more than a 1000 calorie deficit.  In other words whether you exercise or not you do not want to eat less than 1000 calories less than you are burning in a day.  A 500 calorie a day deficit will lead to about a 1 pound a week loss and a 1000 calorie a day deficit will lead to about a 2 pound a week loss.  You may lose more than 1-2 pounds in the first few weeks but that is probably water weight and you don't need to stress too much over it.  The weight loss will slow down.  A grown woman should never eat less than 1200 calories a day to prevent starvation mode.  People of our size can eat much more than 1200 calories a day and still have a deficit of 500-1000 calories per day and we want to do so while we can.  The closer we get to goal the lower our calorie needs will become.

I ride a recumbent bike and have begun doing Peggy Cappy YOGA FOR THE REST OF US.  It is a very easy routine and the first 20 minutes is done seated in a straight back chair.  The second 20 minutes is modified poses that you do in your own comfort zone and the last 20 minutes is pure relaxation.  I would suggest it for anyone who has limited movement due to health or weight.  I got mine at Amazon but first heard about it on PBS.

I hope I have helped you and that other will chime in also.

Karen

Thank you so much!  I also have my Best Friend  looking at the site.  She is in the same boat as the rest of us.  Although she needs a knee replacement at the age of 42 and her doctor will not consider it till she looses alot of weight.  I am going to check out PBS right now and see what I can find and go from there.  2lbs. a week right now would make me OOOOOHH so Happy.  Thanks for the info!

Hi everyone!  I was looking for some motivation and found it today.  I've given up on the low carb diets.  I went from 275 to 195 two years ago and have not that slowly been putting it back on.  I'm now hitting the gym and cal. counting in a fashion I can maintain life long.  I weighed 235 saturday ans would love to join the group of you.

Happy dieting!!

Stacilynn9765, I tried low carb diets before but it was YEARS ago and I did not follow it correctly but I think this is the way to go also.  I just joined this thread today and people have been very nice.  There is a lot of good info on here.

Angie, you are very welcome.  I THINK the info I gave you is right.  It is what I have been understanding anyway.  Tell you friend to come on in!  As to the Peggy Cappy tape I would check out Amazon. You would definitely get it or less $'s there.  Remember too when purchasing at Amazon, if you spend $25 you get free shipping. Peggy Cappy has 3 different tapes that I am aware of.  The first one was YOGA FOR THE REST OF US,  MORE YOGA FOR THE REST OF US and one that is for Back Care.  I am not positive of the name of the most recent back care tape.  I have both the 1st and the 2nd tape and have just started using the first one again this past week.

Karen

Good Morning!

Ask and you shall receive.  Yesterday I was looking for some recipes that I could cook in advance and in my mail I received my copy of this months Good Housekeeping magazine.  There on the cover was the title of an article called COOK ONCE, EAT TWICE 26 days of double-duty dinners.  There were several recipes that I decided to try.  I'll get the groceries on my next shopping trip. I want to make the Winter Vegetable Chowder and the Italian Polenta Casserole and the Curried Sweet Potato Shepard Pie.  They all have the nutritional info and are pretty calorie friendly.  It will probably be next week before I can try this plan out as Luke will be here tomorrow and the cooking will have to be done on Monday-Wednesday.  I don't want to buy all that wonderful fresh produce and then let it sit around for days and days before I cook.  So, this week I will probably make 2 big pots of soup.  One veggie/beef and one chicken noodles w/veggies for this weekend.  Those are easy and quick!

I got up this morning and weighed.  I have lost one more pound.  That is good.  I will take it.

Do all of you weigh and log it just once a week or do you do it whenever you happen to weigh?  I started out not weighing at all and then went to just on Monday and now seem to be logging whenever a loss shows up.  Is there a reason we should be doing it one way or the other?

I will be riding the recumbent bike today.  I think the exercise schedule for me is Monday recumbent, Tuesday recumbent and yoga, Wednesday recumbent, Thursday recumbent and yoga, Friday recumbent and Saturday and Sunday off.

I hope everyone has a wonderful day!

Karen

Trying to retrain my brain to think healthy is hard.  I am using the ham I made yesterday and loading it with a ton of greenbeans and a few pot. chunks.  I already put it in for the day and am going to be great on calories.  (Even with loaded with protein breakfast but horrible sausage too)  I had a few cheese curls already and just because they are here.  Hopefully my kids and hubby will blow through all of the junk in the house and then I will be able to stick to a better diet.  I do have an A for the day with all the junk anyhow.

You are doing great Angie!  Would you prefer Angie or dakabina?
