oh hello.

I'm 14, 5'6.5" and 163 lbs (give or take haha). I'm not sure how much weight I want to lose, but I definitely want to lose weight and be a smaller size and be able to do one armed push ups. so I'm in

Hey nice to meet you guys.

I'm almost 16 years old, 5'9" and 132lbs at the moment. I'd like to be around 125 by by my boyfriend's senior prom in May and become healthier overall. ( I eat like crap and have all fat with barely any muscle haha)

Well I'm just posting an update. I found out that if I wanted to drop 20 lbs, I would have to work off 70,000 calories, which would be about 3500 per pound. So I'm thinking of working out a plan that will get me into exercising and help me lose that weight.

how are you all doing?

I also want to lose 20 lbs by the summer. Which is a pound a week, approximately. Until it gets warmer, my exercise is mostly going to be gym class, then I'll start biking again.

haha, my exercise is basically gym class too. though I've started doing 5 minute running intervals. but my goal is 20lbs by summer, which is about a pound a week, and that means 3500 calories a week (500 a day). it's going to be hard, and something to get into the habit of doing, but I think I can do it.

do you bike a lot in the warm seasons?

im in too :) im actually the same as you.  im 18 5'3 currently 140 want to be 120. have been 130 but stress and a few other things  made it creep back up but im going on a beach and sun holiday to greece with my friends in the summer and i want to look hot and comfortable in a bikini.  one thing that they do on the weightloss challenges is a weekly weigh in like this?

start weight: 140

current weight : ( whatever for that week)

goal weight: 120.

just an idea its a good way of keeping track of your goals

500 a day is way to low...if you loose weight you will very very quickly gain it back on again because your body think its starving, so to preserve homeostasis it will slow your metabloism s when you start to eat again your body will just store all the calories in fat

i forgot...a female should have no less then 1200 calorie total by the end of the day (when you go to bed) for males its around 1500 due to the fact men tend to have more muscle which needs more calories to sustain movement

And for females under 21 the minimum is also 1500. That said, I think she meant a 500 cal DEFECIT, not intake.

Hey!! Im in also! Brief history-I was about 150 last dec. (07) lost to about 127 in July (08) but then the doc. thought i lost it to fast so i went up to 130.  Throughout i would say the last three months with all the holidays and friends birthdays...along with other stuff I have gotten to about 137.  I feel pretty uncomfortable in my clothes and would like to try getting back down to 130.  If I can achieve that, slowly working my way to 125 would be awsome...but we will have to see then. I think what i mainly have to work on is the mindless munching I do along with over eating at dinner.  What r ur guys challenges?  oh im 5'4'

P.s. i don't want this to sound mean but r u guys all into this group cause many times i have joined groups n many people have just stopped talking about 2 weeks into it or whatever....i have done it a few times...but if all u r in this then i promise i wont ditch out until we decide to end:)

so, I'm not doing so well, and I think I've probably gained since the last time I checked.

I don't know what to do. I can't get into the habit of exercising and my diet it crap. I feel worse than when I started because now my goal of 120 seems impossible.

I'm also 16 and 5' 5".  I weigh around 125, and I'm trying to lose 10lbs or so by May (although my major goal is to just look great come summer).


Don't put too much account into the 3500 calories = 1 lb idea.  While this is technically true, as you lose weight, your metabolism will slow down until it become accustomed to your lower calorie intake.  That means 3500 calories won't go as far.

So try and get plenty of exercise, which boosts your metabolism!

jtlb, the same thing happened to me!

I got sick 2 weeks ago and lost about 8lbs, then as soon as I got better I gained it all back and then some! I'm going to try really hard to stick to 1500 cals a day. I'm also on our school's varsity softball team and thats mydaily  exercise. We have practice 2 hours everyday ;however, other then some base running and running to catch fly balls softball doesnt burn that many calories.  

This Friday is also my ( and my twin brother's) 16th birthday. Its going to be really hard to stay on track that day because I know I'm going to want to eat cake and ice cream and brownies and pasta. Although, because it is my birthday I think I might just cheat a little and eat some and work it off the next day haha. 

well, I'm feeling a bit better, and I hope you can too, stephh3!

what I found was getting something to get me going. so my sister picked up this My Fitness Coach for the Wii, which sounds really lame, but it's really nice and can actually keep for focused for a 15 minute workout. It doesn't burn the calories, but I got a lot of exercise in and I'm feeling a bit better. I hope that if I can get into the routine of doing this everyday, I'll have something going for me. :)

anyone else have any success/progress stories?

I really want to get a Wii Fit.  Trying to drop hints but my birthday is a long way off.


And... I guess my only story so far would be that...

I need to punch a new hole in my belt.  I was already on the last hole but it was kind of snug.  Now the belt is a bit too big.

looseymoose- i kow the whole belt thing may not seem that big of a step but it totlly is! great job on that!

Jtlb-thats great that u found a way to exercise that you enjoy a lot.  a few days ago u said u thote u couldnt focus on your goal and that 120 seemed impossible.   I think you should switch your goal to just five pounds.  Just focus on those five pounds and once you get there, you do another five pounds.  Breaking it into small increments can be very motivating/helpful!

im very excited today because i saw 132, and its keeping me motivated to get to 130, which is where i want to be at the beginning of april for a wedding(i was there a few months ago but gained about 8). The past few weeks i have done a lot better with the mindles snacking, but i still feeling uncomfortably full after dinner so i have to work on that.  any ideas?

I'm currently at 134 and I want to go back down to 120/115. I like the idea of the 5 lb increments though, so I guess my goal for now is to 130! I'm 5'4 and I am also really into this group, I think I need to have like a weekly weigh in and everything for me to work towards. Are you guys interested in having a weekly weigh in and letting each other know what helped/ didn't help that week?

Sourapple, I really need to stop eating such large dinners as well! What I've done is gotten a childsized plate or bowl and used that. I always seem to forget that I can get seconds if I'm still hungry, and fill a large bowl to the brim and eat it all.

sourapple90 - For feeling full after dinner, I've heard that eating pinapple in the evening or before you go to bed helps with that and it also helps with digestion while you sleep. good luck! and thanks for the encouragement.

update: since Feb 16th I've lost nothing that helps towards reaching my goal. I have TERRIBLE snacking problems, so if anyone has a solution, please let me know! I have started exercising, so hopefully I can get in the full swing of that soon.

I'm kind of in the same situation you are.

I'm 5'4'' (just an inch taller than you), 16 years old, started out at 146-7 pounds, and want to get down to 125 by summer. I've already started, and right now, I'm at around 139.

I just want a bikini body! I want to enjoy by summer at the beaches like my friends and not be so self concious...

I would love to be one of your weight loss buddies...
