Weight Loss Challenge Lose 40-50lb by Thanksgiving

Quote  |  Reply

Hi all, so I was online yesterday writing a post in my journal and I decided that I would make a goal for myself and I set it for this Thanksgiving. I'm looking to lose 40-50lb overall so thats a pretty healthy weight of about 2lb a week. So then I had another brilliant idea, why keep this so myself? Instead use this as a motivation tool for everyone! So if you want to join my challenge and lose 40-50 by this Thanksgiving then write a post here with your measurements and your goal weights. The challenge will officially begin this Monday June 15 (sorry for the late notice) and last until November 26. Means for the next 23 weeks (5 1/2 months) we are going to challenge ourselves to change our relationship with food, make healthy decision, get active, and of course reach our weight loss goals.

A little about me:

Height: 5'7

Age: 20

Current Weight: 196

Goal Weight: 150

Even though I was born premature I have been overweight most of my life and it wasn't until my teens when it started to bother me. I lost about 30lb by the end of my senior year of high school, just by working out and eating healthy. It was a long process, but I felt good about the way I looked and felt. Then college hit me! and I suffered from the freshman 15 and then some. So I'm finally going into summer from my first year of college and I'm trying to use this otherwise boring opportunity to jump start my weight loss and keep it off once and for all.

I hope you all find this challenge fun and motivating, I really think this can be great!

hey i found your thread last night now i am haveing trouble getting there could you send me one in my mailbox thanks ffs i am not very computer savy

still haveing trouble finding thread when i want to post

I would love to join you, but since this is my first long term diet I just hope I can keep up! About the freshman 15: it was the funniest thing. I spent my first (yea first... >_<) freshman year on a college campus, eating absolute JUNK and I lost weight. I left that college and came home and started gaining it like crazy! I found a box of clothes that I could wear before when I was in my first freshman year and it was all too tight. I was shocked and a little depressed that the pants size was 12/14 :\ . I now wear a 16. I feel that now that my job is at a desk instead of in food service, I have a stronger urge to go out and be healthy.

About me, in a similar format:

Age: 20

Height: 5'3

Current Weight: 209lbs

Thanksgiving Goal Weight: 169

I would love to say I want to lose 50lbs by thanksgiving, but I'm a little uneasy that I'll do it. Hopefully if I join you on this it'll be motivation to lose the weight!

My weight has fluctuated by 5 lbs this week. I started at 200, was 195 on Sat. and now am 198. I believe it is because I spent weekend cleaning and staining our deck. Spent hours in the sun cooking and probably did not drink enough liquids to stay hydrated. My activiity levels continue to be good and I am enjoying a period of boundless energy. I can imagine now how good I will feel once I start losing more weight. Will weigh in again on Monday and thanks for the support and accountability!

Um.. I think it's water weight :)  I've really only just started this new lifestyle.  This Thursday is weigh-in #4 for me.

My main exercise is chasing my kids.  I'm also biking for 30 minutes 3 times a week.  I live at the top of a 2km hill, so I cruise down in 8 minutes, and grind my way back up in 22.  Even the totally fit people I know walk up it.  When I started, I'd have to get off my bike 4 times.  Now I'm down to 2.  I'm hoping this week I don't get off the bike at all :)

Once I can bike the entire thing in one go, then I'm going to try taking the hill twice in a row.  (I apparently have a latent competitive streak).

Hello everyone!

So i am starting in too i just started my new lifestyle change on the 1st of july.

SW 332

CW 329 next weigh in is July 15th

GW 279

Wish me strong will and endurance. I will be doing the same for all of you currently doing weekly weigh ins and on weight watchers flex plan.

I'm counting points too :)  But not flex points.  I did WW 8 years ago, and I'm following that old plan.  As much as I can remember of it...

So how do I join - need some support. I started out about a month ago at 288. I am now down to 266. I was on Blood Pressure Medication, Type Tow Diabetes and a antidepressant.

Four months ago I quit smoking - still chew 2mg nicorette gum. I have changed my eating habits dramatically. Read Dr Oz book - You on a diet and it has helped tremendously.

Started working out about a month ago. I am on a Zone Program and found a great way to determine your heart rate when you exercise - if anyone needs it I will send.

I did 60 minutes on the eclipse today - I am 58 and kept my heart rate at 121 for that time.

Feeling good - got off all my meds but need help on this journey as I would like to get down to 190.

If this helps - get a heart monitor. You can figure out your Zones using the following scale:

210 minus 1/2 your age minus 1% of your body weight plus 0

So lets say you are 22

210 - 22=188-1+0 = 189 - That is your highest heart rate

To start - work in Zone One: 50-60% of that rate - 10 minutes (94-113)

Zone 2 - Ten minutes: 60-70% - 10 minutes - 113-132

Zone 3 - Ten minutes 70-80% - 132-151

When you start stay in the lower part of the zone - you will build up over time.

So Zone 1 - Go for 100 beats a minute

Zone 2 - 113

Zone 3 - 132 you will get here so dont beat yourself up - even if you get there a minute that is great - dont kill yourself

You follow this and the weight will go

Do this for 4-6 weeks can be accomplished by walking

Get a heart monitor - they are not that expensive - work within the limitations of your heart and your exercise will be much more effective. You go girl as you have the right attitude - you will be flying up that hill in two weeks - feel the wind.

understanding my weight challenges
Jul 17 2009 11:47 Edit | Delete

i had a realization today while mopping the floor.  I eat when i am happy not just when i am stressed .  Eating makes me feel better. since food makes my blood sugar go up ( i am diabetic)  it gives me a sugar high feeling.  in my mind eating keeps me happy so i eat to keep Happy.   this is what the catch is so now i figured it is untrue  CLICK !!! Surprised eating makes me over weight so i get depressed ,unhappy and unhealthy and so over indulging in over eating causes unhappiness.  This realization has opened the way to my meeting my weight removal challenges  i just had to share this insight

Blessing and congradiualtions to all of us for stepping into our new lives
