Weight Loss Challenge Lose 40-50lb by Thanksgiving

Quote  |  Reply

Hi all, so I was online yesterday writing a post in my journal and I decided that I would make a goal for myself and I set it for this Thanksgiving. I'm looking to lose 40-50lb overall so thats a pretty healthy weight of about 2lb a week. So then I had another brilliant idea, why keep this so myself? Instead use this as a motivation tool for everyone! So if you want to join my challenge and lose 40-50 by this Thanksgiving then write a post here with your measurements and your goal weights. The challenge will officially begin this Monday June 15 (sorry for the late notice) and last until November 26. Means for the next 23 weeks (5 1/2 months) we are going to challenge ourselves to change our relationship with food, make healthy decision, get active, and of course reach our weight loss goals.

A little about me:

Height: 5'7

Age: 20

Current Weight: 196

Goal Weight: 150

Even though I was born premature I have been overweight most of my life and it wasn't until my teens when it started to bother me. I lost about 30lb by the end of my senior year of high school, just by working out and eating healthy. It was a long process, but I felt good about the way I looked and felt. Then college hit me! and I suffered from the freshman 15 and then some. So I'm finally going into summer from my first year of college and I'm trying to use this otherwise boring opportunity to jump start my weight loss and keep it off once and for all.

I hope you all find this challenge fun and motivating, I really think this can be great!

Ok great!! I was hoping to hear from more people before the start of the challenge (tomorrow) but I guess on such late notice its what I expect. So the next weigh-in will be Sunday. All you have to do is set a weight loss goal for this week and post about your progress hopefuly at least once before weigh-in if you have time. Also the week's challenge is to drink more water, at least 8 glasses a day!

This week's goal for me is to lose 2lb! putting me at 194, so best of luck with this week and I'll be posting!

Hi MW and Jules! I'm Kate.

I would like to try this.  I never have and at this point I will try anything.

Weight: 240

Height: slightly more than 5'9"

Goal: 170

Age: 23

I just graduated from college and have been trying to reverse all those bad habits I gained in college.  I used to be very athletic in high school.  I ate whatever I wanted because it did not affect my weight much although I was considered a big girl...muscular and tall.  I used to hate that about myself b/c the guys wanted "cutsy little girls".  After my weight gain I started to realize that I don't mind being a "big girl" I just want to be at an acceptable weight and healthy.  I have been with a guy for 6 years who loves me very much.  He is very supportive but my weight gain has affected our relationship.  My self-esteem is much lower than it used to be and this is REALLY putting strain on our relationship.

Anyway, I have tried so many times to change my ways but I have not been able to do it.  This is the most I have ever weighed.  I lost 20# over the winter and gained it all back plus a few extra!  I am hoping that it might make it easier to set weekly goals and share them with you.

Oops!  Forgot to list this weeks goals.  I would like to lose 3 lbs this week (putting me at 237).  I would also like to drink 8 glasses of water every day this week!

Hi!  I would like to loose about 55lbs.  I recently had shoulder surgery and am currently doing physical therapy 5x's a week, which is great because they are not just focusing on my shoulder!  I get to do cardio and strength training too!  I am currently doing 2 hours a day of it.  It is kinda like my own personal trainer.  I started Wednesday June 10th and weighed 184.4 and am currently down to 181.

Height:  5'3

Age:  28

Current Weight:  181

Goal Weight: 125

I would like to loose 3 or more pounds this week!

Hi, My name is Paula and the last time I was here I was so depressed that I could not make myself  write a big post.

Well, I'm overweight ;)... I have PCOS and I don't have my thyroid either I take medications for both of my problems. It is very hard to lose weight, but I'm here and willing to try one more time, as this weight is not just killing my self esteem, my health but my marriage too. If you know what I mean girls. It is hard to get in the mood when you don't feel comfortable with yourself.

I did very good yesterday. I'm doing Weight Watchers. I really like this diet. Usually I do lose 2 pounds per week if I don't cheat. I guess this is my goal for this first week .... No Cheating!!!

Please any help,  comments and support are welcome. I need motivation!!!

By the way I was 190 I lost 8 pounds but it was a very slow process since I was just eating health not really dieting. I lost 8 pounds in 3 month.

Excuse my English here , It is not my first language.

Age,30

Weight: 182

Goal: 125

By thanksgiving : about 140 or 135.

lose 2 pounds per week.

Thank you all and Good Luck to all. God bless you!!!

My goal this week is to drink 8 glasses of water a day and STICK with the workout regimen...  For me it is about size and fit of clothes not weight (but thats prob. cause I have never owned a scale :)

YAY!!  We CAN do this!!!!

Howdy Ya'll I'll give this one a shot to...lol I have 2 boys ages 8 and 13 and 2 girls ages 1 and 3 and had gestional diabetes with all pregancys so I would like to lose at least some of this weight so I can enjoy my time with them without over doing myself and be in a healthy and good shape to do more with them.

Age- 31

Height- 5'6

Weight-245 lbs

Goal- 197 by Thanksgiving

That would be making me loose about 2 lbs a week...Wish me luck y'all..lol

I'll join this challenge I think, though I'm not sure about the 40lbs by thanksgiving because I'm really trying to take it slow and steady right now because in the past I've tried the too fast ways, so my personal goal will be 30lbs by thanksgiving. Anyway my name is Emilie and I'm from PA.

age- 18

height- 5'0

CW- 170

thanksgiving GW- 140

Overall GW- 125

Goal this week drink ONLY water. I've been trying this for the past few days and has been sooo hard and I've had some slips, but this week I'm determined for water only!!

50lbs sounds like a dream but now is the time.Smile

Age: 24

Height: 5' 3.5"

Current weight:192

Just recently had a baby and during my pregnancy gained 63lbs. Cry

Need all the encouragement I can get!

Goal for 50lbs by Thanksgiving: 142

Leaving only 18lbs to reach my final goal.

Looking forward to sharing weekly results or trials with everyone! I'm new to the site so any info anyone can give me is much appreciated!

Oh wow, when i went to look at the site this morning I was so please to see how many people have come on board. Welcome to the team:

jules, kminnick, nick, mtngirl, paula, nancy, aceman, rynesmom, whiskeylullaby, Emilie, babybody!! (did I miss anybody?)

Looks like we are going to have tons of support throughout our journey. Ok so the challenge begins today and I'm glad to see that everyone has put down their measurements and weekly goals. A 1-3lb loss is just where we want to be, any more than that is too fast to be healthy or to maintain anyway, and that's the whole goal of this challenge to lose 40-50lb by this Thanksgiving and keep it off!

Ok, so remember this weeks individual challenge is to drink 8 glasses of water everyday! And it looks like some of us are even trying to drink only water, whatever works for you personally. And also try to post once during the week if you can before Sunday weigh-in

I just want to wish everyone tons of encouragement as the week starts off, remember, this is a CHALLENGE so its not all going to be easy (and its a long one 23 weeks). If you get discouraged reach out to the others here, chances are we're all going through the same thing. Share tips, questions, and advice, we're here to help and encourage one another to lead healthier lives, so lets go go go!! I'm off to the gym.

Best

Myrtie

HI there.  i will join if it is not too late

i am 5'8 1/2", and weigh 255 lbs

i already consume 8 glasses of h20 a day and i work out every day for at least 60 min and mix it up a bit.

last night i had my 90 min water cardio class at the gym and it kicked my butt. i can't seem to get enough calories in though.  i ate yesterday and when i was full i stopped.  still my calories were only 650 or so and my exercise was like 400 calories burned.  i need more calories :(

how many do i need to lose weight a day? how many in?  i was doing weight watchers at one point. does anyone know how many calories equal each point  on weight watchers?

thanks and good luck to all.
