Weight Loss Challenge Lose 40-50lb by Thanksgiving

Quote  |  Reply

Hi all, so I was online yesterday writing a post in my journal and I decided that I would make a goal for myself and I set it for this Thanksgiving. I'm looking to lose 40-50lb overall so thats a pretty healthy weight of about 2lb a week. So then I had another brilliant idea, why keep this so myself? Instead use this as a motivation tool for everyone! So if you want to join my challenge and lose 40-50 by this Thanksgiving then write a post here with your measurements and your goal weights. The challenge will officially begin this Monday June 15 (sorry for the late notice) and last until November 26. Means for the next 23 weeks (5 1/2 months) we are going to challenge ourselves to change our relationship with food, make healthy decision, get active, and of course reach our weight loss goals.

A little about me:

Height: 5'7

Age: 20

Current Weight: 196

Goal Weight: 150

Even though I was born premature I have been overweight most of my life and it wasn't until my teens when it started to bother me. I lost about 30lb by the end of my senior year of high school, just by working out and eating healthy. It was a long process, but I felt good about the way I looked and felt. Then college hit me! and I suffered from the freshman 15 and then some. So I'm finally going into summer from my first year of college and I'm trying to use this otherwise boring opportunity to jump start my weight loss and keep it off once and for all.

I hope you all find this challenge fun and motivating, I really think this can be great!

Hi Everyone!  Thanks Jules for trying to send the graphics early b-day greeting.  I'm not so excited about tomorrow - mainly because 50, is well, 50Tongue out.  I had not planned to be overweight, out of shape and kind of dragging when I hit 50 - who does?  Anyway,  the best birthday present I've gotten is finding all of you guys.  I am in here (office) now writing to you instead of raiding the kitchen even though I had plenty of food at a banquet I attended with my son.

I see there are lots of us that have night time issues with food.  Maybe we can support each other and perhaps come here and post and talk while we drink our water!   Whoo Hoo!  Hey, whatever works.

Accountability is the only thing that is going to work for me.  I know WHAT to do, and frankly I know HOW to do it for me - but I lose motivation and just feel like the weight will never go away fast enough so I just throw in the towel - is anybody with me here?  I've had 2 good days of drinking lots of water.  I take a 32 oz. Nalgene bottle with me to work and make sure that I get that in- the problem is that I am drinking the other 32 oz in the evening so I'm visiting the BR more than once during the night.  Minor problems though - I'll figure that out.

Is anybody exercising?  what are you doing?  I exercised 2 days in a row and then convinced myself this morning that I would do it this evening - NOT.  It's got to be the morning or nothing for me.  What do you do for motivation?  Is that a problem for the rest of you??

Gina  aka mtngirl Smile

Yeah I have the same problem with working out. In the mornings im like oh you'll definitely work out later but even as i say that I'm like "no you won't emilie, you're lying to yourself." but I'm trying to get through that and be better.

And with the eating at night try brushing your teeth because then nothing will really taste good with toothpaste. And then after adjusting to not eating late at night you can probably stop, or continue because you're brushing your teeth so its not bad for you.

Also this week for me has been awful because its the first time my siblings, parents, and I have been together in like 8 months because I was traveling and my brother was living in Florida my other brother lives at home with his wife so we have seen each other but we're all really close... and not only is it the first time being back together but its also the last time we'll see each other for another 7months so the family's like all celebratory. and being 18 its really hard to not be around family all the time so yeah. Hopefully next week will be better once we all go our separate ways again but this week I'm just taking it a day at a time.

Hi Everyone! My name is Marla. I have been dieting off and on for the majority of my adult life. My freshman year in high school I dropped 60 lbs. and reached 135. I was thrilled. I got pregnant the following summer and put it all back on. I hadn't lost it all when I got pregnant with my second child almost 3 years ago. So since the beginning of the year I have been trying to lose weight. I think I have lost about 7 lbs total. So here are my stats.

Age: 25

Height: 5' 4"

Current Weight: 182.8 lbs

Goal Weight: 130 lbs.

Good Luck everyone!

Hi everyone!! I know I'm starting late but I didn't come across this forum until today and this is exactly the kind of thing I;d like to try right now to keep me motivated... I've already been eating a bit better this week so if I continue I hope to lose maybe 2 lbs. by the end of it :) Here are my stats:

Age: 20
Height: between 5'6" and 5'7" not sure which lol
Current weight: 197 lbs.
Goal weight: 135 lbs.

Gluck All!! Laughing

Thanks Emilie,  I will try the teeth brushing thing at night - good suggestion.  About convincing myself to exercise.....I'm here at the computer procrastinating instead of exercising.  I'm up, it's 0645, was 0615 when I got up, but so far I've made coffee, fed the cats, put nuts/birdseed out for the birds (outside) and almost convinced myself I don't need to do anything this morning because, afterall, it's my birthday.  Here's my plan - minimal - start drinking my water while I drink my morning coffee and do my weights even if I don't do something aerobic.  I do a 30 min weight routine and it I actually do it 3 times a week I lose inches.  All goes back to motivation.

Emilie,  Have fun with your family.  I am close with my youngest son - nearly 18, but my 19 yr old that lives here in the house- could be on a different planet.

Everyone have a great day!  Drink that water!!!!!

Gina

Hi Guys!

Gina, I have the same problem with motivation.  With the working out thing, try not thinking of it as working out rather something to add to your daily routine.  For the next 4 weeks I plan on walking for 15 mins 5/7days, then when I'm comfortable with that then I bump it up to 20, 25, 30.  15 mins is easy and quick...you can even just go walking in your flip flops (don't make it such a big deal to put your work out clothes on).  If you keep this up for the next few weeks it helps to start a habit of walking...it really does.  I really just try not to put a lot of thought into the walk.  Sometime listening to one of your favorite exercise songs before you'd like to start walking may help motivate you.  Have a good day!

YES!!! I am totally in!!!! Hello my name is Veronica! I have 2 wonderful children and a cranky husband! BOOOOO! So lets motivate each other!

AGE: 22 YRS YOUNG!

HEIGHT: 5' 3"

CURRENT WEIGHT: 198ish

Goal Weight: 130

I am so excited!

So ?! How do we fo this challenge as far as posting and updating and stuff? This is my first time!

Hi All -- As far as eating at night, I have found that freezing the 4 oz Activia Yogurt is a great treat in the evening -- You have to eat it with a fork at it takes a long time to finish.  The regular freezes better than the light.

I repaired my flat tires on my bike so I am going to add bike riding to my exercise plan for the evening.  I think I will start with 5 miles -- hope it doesn't rain!

Meg

I did very well yesterday!  While I didn't drink the 8 glasses, I was able to turn down a Burger King dinner!  Woo Hoo :)

Instead we made homemade burgers on the BBQ and I made baked potato wedges.  I feel good for this!  I didn't walk again last night, but mainly because my massage made me feel sick...my muscles are waaayyy too tight!!  I plan on walking for 15 minutes tonight...as long as the rains holds off!!

Veronica,

All you have to do dear is get on here and tell us whatever you feel like saying. Try to post once a week a goal...ie...trying to drink 8 glasses of water a day, or trying to eat less carbs. Get the idea? If you lose a pound, tell us that. We will celebrate with you. If you ate waaaaay to much cheesecake at dinner, get on here and tell us that. We have all been there.  Good luck dear.

I am proud of myself.  Last night my husband made pizza, even though I had mentioned that we could have leftovers (super healthy grilled chicken and veggies and an awesome salad).  I saw the pizza... and then I ate the leftovers instead.  and it tasted really good.  Then I actually went out on the elliptical and did a 45 minute workout.  Innocent

Today the scale was down a pound - which makes me happy even though I know it doesn't really mean anything.

You totally be proud of yourself!  That's awesome!  If there was pizza in my house...I don't know if I could be as strong as you!  Plus, 45 minutes on the elliptical???  Jeez Louise!  That's impressive :)  I could never manage more than 20 minutes...the elliptical is quite the workout!

Wow! our family is growing soo rapidly and i'm glad to see that, the more support and motivation the better!

To all the new members: don't worry its only wednesday and its never to late to make a change. This week's challenge is to drink at least 8 glasses of water a day and then you post your own personal weight loss goal for this week (somewhere between 1-3lb is usually healthy) also don't forget to friend me so i can send you all nice e-mails (and friend each other too) I feel like the personal contact really makes the difference.

anyway I'm glad to see that everyone is making some kind of progress whether its learning something about your eating habits or losing a pound or two already!

for me this week has definitely been a challenge! (lol I guess that's the point) I plan on going for a jog this evening especially since I ate sooo much food yesterday and didn't work out, still got to get a hold of that night time eating. I think that I'm going to go to the grocery store and stock up on some healthy snacks or something. The problem is that my 2 yr old neice and newphew are here and they seem to be eating all the time, or at least snacking, and then I find that I am too. So i'm going to try snacking on some healthy stuff instead.

I really liked the suggestion of freezing yogurt to eat at night so I'm going to try that for sure, Thanks!

Ok, this water thing is harder than it sounds!! lol. I had 5 glasses while at work yesturday..but not a drop when I got home. Today I have the water back on my desk, and I'm barely sipping it. I think I psyche myself into hating it..so I am going to sit here and keep sipping..and sipping. Such a small goal for me, but it really affects my daily life. My goal today is one cup at a time!

julzie- I know that drinking water is something we so often take for granted but it's so important to a healthy lifestyle. Just keep sipping and you'll get it all in before you even notice. Also maybe it you want to spice it up squeeze a little lemon or lime in your water for some no calorie real flavor.

I've heard that it takes 21 days to make something a habit, so keep working on those 8 glasses of water everybody!  For those of you struggling to get it in, just keep trying and eventually it will become part of your life.  I personally absolutely love water, so it's not hard for me to drink it.  But I can understand how it can be difficult to incorporate.

Babybodyblues - Flavored water does count, but just be really careful of the type you choose as some of them are really high in calories, sugar, and other things that make them almost as bad as drinking soda.  Check the nutrition facts and make sure you aren't drinking something that will give the opposite of what you're trying to achieve.  You should try to experiment with adding citrus fruit to plain water (like orange, lemon, or lime slices).  Then you might create a healthier alternative to use once you go through the flavored water you already bought.

Gina - I am totally with you on knowing what to do and how to do it, but have a huge problem getting myself to actually go through with everything.  It's easy to be fat, that's why so many Americans are.  Stuff that's bad for you is fast, easy, cheap, and tastes so good!  It takes a lot of work to eat nutritiously and I think that's why we throw in the towel.  It's really hard to remember that it's worth the hard work and it's really hard to imagine how great we'll feel (physically and emotionally) at the end of our weight loss journey.  We'll just have to really support each other and remind each other that we're worth this and all the hard work that's going to go into it.

To everyone struggling with their water - I've come up with a trick that helps me to get my water in each day so I wanted to share it with you.  My work schedule is basically 8 to 5 with lunch at noon.  I have 24 oz water bottles, so I break my water intake into 3 different parts of the day - I drink one bottle in the morning and into lunch, one bottle between lunch and when I leave work at 5, and the 3rd bottle after work.  I try to finish that bottle about an hour before I go to bed so I don't have to visit the BR during the night.  Of course this doesn't happen every day, but I've found it to be very beneficial to keeping me hydrated throughout the entire day and it helps me to get in at least 9 glasses of water a day.  I've heard that sometimes dehydration can feel like hunger, so maybe it will help keep us from eating when we're not really hungry.  Just thought I'd throw that out there.

Hope everyone is having a good hump day so far - we're half way to the weekend!

Hello everyone.

Does flavored water count as water? cause I can drink like 3 20oz regular waters but that is a little boring for me... I'm a big taste person and I have a bunch of flavored water that I bought at the store already...

I think the problem is ice. There's no ice here..I can drink nice ice cold water easier..lol

I think it counts as water, it will probably have lots of other things in it as well like some sugar and such other things but its a step in the right direction.
