Weight loss and complexion

I heard that once you lose weight and start eating better, your face will clear up.  I have been working out, eating right, drinking lots of water.. but I do not find an improvement in my face.  It does look any clearer to me than before? Has anyone ever heard of this or have any opinions?

I have been eating healthier, drinking lots more water, and exercising for about a week and a half now and my skin is so much better. my face is clearing up and my skin all over is much softer. But, I have three older sisters who are all fairly healthy (I am 22 so we are all well out of puberty) and we have all struggled with acne. So I think part of it is just genetics while part of it is diet and exercise. How long have you been eating and drinking better?

Also, do you exercise outside and put on sunscreen? I find that if I use anything other than neutrogena on my face or if I don't wash my face prompty after working out it will cause me to break out a bit. So maybe it has something to do with what products you are using?

Hi hmking,

I have been eating and drinking better since january (kind of a new years resolution to lose weight, join the gym etc. after christmas/new years, i said this is the last "feast" for me)  I am 25 years old. and in high school my skin was so clear.  I didnt start breaking out till 1-2 years ago?  I workout at the gym, so I dont put on sunscreen.

It could be the products i'm using i'm not sure?  but i always thought that once you change your lifestyle your face should appear clearer and healthier.. but I feel that I still look the same.  People have noticed my weight loss (15 pounds) but no change in my face or breakouts.

Hi pahpi. My skin has gotten a little better since eating healthier. I have noticed when I eat a lot of citrus fruits I will break out a little. I think I am sensitive to the acid in the fruit. Have you been eating foods that contain a lot of acid? Other than that I can not think of anything else. Hopefully someone will come along and offer up a better idea. :O) Take care!

I think my skin's gotten a lot better, but I still get breakouts around TTOM.  I also use both toner and moisturizer after I was my face every time to keep it from drying out.  Clean and Clear products work great, but I couldn't find the toner in that brand, so I'm trying L'oreal now.  It seems to make my skin a lot softer.  Also, it takes 30 days for your skin cells to turn over, so give it some time and you might see results.  Same thing with any new skincare regimine you start--you'll never know how it will effect you until your skin cells turn over.

Also, sometimes eating lots of chocolate, soda, or sugar can effect the way your skin looks.  I know that when my sister eats a lot of chocolate, she breaks out.  That's probably a genetic thing, though.

As said, it is mostly genetcs.

However, be careful. When I was suffereing from an ED, I never had a pimple because the lack of fat (and calories) in my diet caused my hormones to pretty much die. No hormones = no pimples.

So make sure that you are eating enough and getting at least 20-30% of your calories from fat! :)

Hey guys, thanks for your responses! It was really helpful

Someone told me to try Vichy? Is that even how you spell it? Has anyone tried that?

My skin has gotten a lot clearer since I've been eating better, and I have always struggled with acne (I am 26). The specific things I noticed:

My skin looks better when I am making an effort to eat LOTS of veggies every day (I mean like 3-5 servings per meal, and then snacks). I can still eat some not so great things (I love chocolate), as long as I don't forgoe the good things

I drink A LOT of water

It's also been specifically better since I have tried eating more balanced too (I upped my protein, include fat, but not too much, etc.)
