LA Weight Loss????

Quote  |  Reply
has anyone ever tried LA weight loss centers? my mom has some friends that did it and were successful, i just wanted your opinion on it...

it seems the more i try to eat healthy, i get more depressed and end up eating bad foods, then feeling bad and getting more depressed, then eating more bad foods...it's quite the vicious cycle i've gotten myself into! i just thought going to a center might help me...i guess it can't hurt me, right??? thanks!!

I'm not familiar with their weight loss program.  Low carb, low protein, no fat... fad style diets will give quick resulsts but most people are not able to keep up eating like that for very long as your body needs fat, protein and cards, just in various amounts.

Any more info on how it works?

You have to understand that things like this take months to see resulsts.  But  following a calorie-count healthy lifestyle change program does work.  Its all about determination.  If you want it, you can do it.  People here are great support to help you through the rough times.  I find myself reading these forums each day for motivation and to remind myself how important this is.

But if you find going to some centre will help, give it a shot.  Just be weary about the diet that they are doing, as many of these things aren't very healthy and don't have proven long term effect
I started LAWL right after the new year.  Without their help, I would not be where I am today down nearly 45lbs!

I don't see this as being a "fad diet" like some other diets.  Sure they have shakes and bars that you can buy, but you don't have to.  You buy all your own food from normal grocery stores where you'd normally shop.  They don't tell you exactly what to eat and they don't make you eat anything.  It's more about fitting your regular eating habits into a more healthy format.  They make sure you're eating all your food groups and at appropriate serving sizes.  For example, for the plan I am on I get 2 servings of fruit per day.  If I want grapes, 1 serving of grapes = 15grapes.   They also count how much water you're drinking and your daily exercize.

I mentioned "the plan that I am on".  They have different colored books for each "plan".  The plan is determined by your age, weight, sex, gereral daily activity/occupation.  So this is somewhat like the tools we have here that would determine your daily calorie needs.  For example, my current plan gives me 2 servings of veggies.  Someone that requires more calories on a daily basis may have 3 or 4 servings per day.

So you have to keep a diary every day.  You check off all your servings and your water.  You write down what you had for breakfast, snacks, dinner etc.  You write down your activities, mood, etc.  And you visit the LAWL office 3 times a week.  During these visits, you meet with someone one on one and they review how you've been doing the past few days.  You also weigh in at this time.  They take measurements once a month as well.  If you've hit a plateau, or you're getting bored with your food they can make suggestions. They'll even help you with exercize recommending different activities etc.  I feel the one on one time is most important because I don't want to screw up and have to show them!  The visits are made whenever you have time during their office hours.  So it's not like a weight watcher's meeting where everyone gets together at said time for an hour.  This is more like stop in after work and be done in 20minutes.

I really like the program.  It's really helped me learn how to eat properly.  I've learned a lot about serving sizes and measuring my food and getting all of my food groups.  If you feel that you need extra one on one, face to face support I'd recommend LA Weight Loss.
I looked into LA weight loss about a year ago. I also looked into Weight Watcher, Jenny Craig and Dr. Bernstein about the same time.

For Dr. Bernstien it was horribly expensive and involved a 700 cal/day diet, with injections of vitamins from RN's... too scary for me.

Jenny Craig - heard a lot of people get really bored with the food, and since the food is pre-packaged and pre-measured a lot of people do have success, but gain it right back as soon as they are off the plan because the plan does not teach them how to eat well.

Weight Watcher and LA weight loss seemed to be the best. LA Weight Loss seems to be a cheaper version of WW, but you get one-to-one counselling, not group meetings.

The reason I didn't go with LA weightloss is that they weren't able to tell me anything that I didn't already know from this site. In fact they told me a whole lot less. They weren't able to answer any of my questions as to if the people that would be counselling me had any credentials such as registered dietiatan... they cleaverly ducked those questions by saying "our plans are prepared by a registered dietician." but that is very different from me asking if the person that I would be working directly with was a registered dietician.

I also didn't like the fact that they really pushed their supplements and products. I found out online when I went home from my "consultation" that the counsellors are on a form of commission a bonus provision based on the amount of products and supplements they sell.

All and all I think it could be a good start off if you have $700 (CDN) to blow, and really just need an AA type sponsor to call and talk you through stuff.

That being said I think this community has already provided me with that, has given me more comprehensive nutritional information, and all the tools I need to track my own progress. In the end I am sticking it out here, because it may be a little slower but in the end I've done it all myself, and that is the best way to know that I won't gain it back, because I will have learned everything first hand.
Hey, if you don't want to spend TONS of money on the center, I can email you the ebook... I have the entire program plus over 2500+ recipes.  If you want them.

I'm really tempted to take you up on that. One reason I didn't join is they just tried to keep everything so secret that I didn't want to join without knowing what I was buying.
No problem, anybody who wants them, just give me your email and I'll send them out to you guys.

hey there....I have tried the LA Weighloss and I lost about 25 pounds with them. The program is pretty simple but I found that they were trying to always sell me something, which kindof turned me off to them.  Some of their products to me were unnecessary to take but you are obligated to take them other wise you are in violation of their contract.  They did seem to be a little helpful, but clinically they were not.

Weight Watchers was always a very good avenue for me.  I am currently under nutrionist care and I am on a 1800 calorie diet. It seems to be working, I have to just increase my exercise. Hope all is well and good luck......D
I'll take a copy of that
