After Weight Loss
Hi,
I am 17 and 5"8'. Two weeks ago I've decided to start losing weight. I've lost 8.3 lbs in two weeks by eating around 1200 calories. Now I am at 140.6 lbs and would like to be 132. I now I can make it that's not a problem. I'm just wondering what to do after the weight loss ? I'm planning on upping my calories to 1500 but still very healthy food, lots of fruits and proteins, for a few days and then up it again to 1800 ( which is how much I should be eating for my age, i'm still growing up ). Is it the right thing to do ?
Thanks.
At 17, 1500 is the bare minimum you should be eating, so you need to up your calories already.
Once you reach your goal (although at 5'8" you are at a perfectly healthy weight and don't need to lose more), start eating as much as you burn. Remember that the calorie tools on CC are intended for adults - there are other calorie counters for teens that will be more accurate.
Well girlie.....I think two weeks of 1200 is fine but it is time to up your calories. I know you are probably totally motivated by your fast weight loss but remember that not only are you trying to loose weight...u also want to do it in a healthy way and attaom long term results.
Being in a large calorie deficit for a short period of time is not bad for an adult person. Research suggests a week and max 2 weeks for a weight loss start. But you are young and still growing. So I advice that you start upping your calories. You have a good start with the 8 lbs loss so now, even though it will be a slower weight loss, it will be a healthy and long term one. If you don't, not only will you hinder your health but also hinder your growth. At this point your loss is significant and 2 weeks is just more than enough. Start upping your calories slowly. Start adding 150 cals every 4 days until reaching your minimum of 1500-1600. Once your goal is reached, again add calories slowly to maintain. Monitor your weight so you can find the exact number that will keep you in maintenance which should be at around 1800 p/d.
Best of luck. Girlie, please don't forget that though it's tempting to attain fast results, most of the time is not that good for you. Take it slow and take it healthy. You are growing, u need the extra cals and the extra body fat to sustain your growth.
Hey !
Thanks for both your replies ! I stopped my 1200 diet today, after 17 days, and I'm happy with my weight loss. Now I'm upping my calories intake to 1500 and I'll monitor my weight to see if everything goes well.
Thanks a lot, but it was important for me to lose quickly I needed to prepare for something, I just hope I'm not gonna gain everything back now that I upped the calories intake.
