Weight Loss goal too low?

Quote  |  Reply
Ok, I am close to 5'8 and I set my goal at 135.  Currently, I am 151, and the weight is coming off very slowly, so I'm wondering if maybe a goal of 140 would be better? I'd love some other opinions.  Thanks!

I think you should get to 140 first and see how you think.  I'm currently 5'4 and 135 and aiming for 115, but on my profile I have 115 set as a goal.  If you feel comfortable at 140, stop.  If you want to keep going, go ahead. :)
Waves Hi.... jocelyn.

I really think your goal is great.

I'm 5 ' 4 and my goal is 139...

Our bodies do tell us what is and what isn't..

If your not losing, it might be a sign.

Try to the 140's ....Your a tall woman..
I'm 5'6" and would be happy to get back to 145!!  But I am also probably old enough to be your mother LOL Just checked your profile and yep it is official I even have a daughter who is older than you @ 20 !!!!
Yeah....I really need to change that picture....terrible.
I'm around the same age, 5'8" too, and my goal is 130-135 ish.  I am around 140 right now, and I feel I could still stand to lose a few pounds, mostly I am just concentrating on eating a good balance of foods and sticking with my exercise routine, that way I know i'm not pushing myself so hard I will gain all the weight back plus some! Best of Luck!!
Im 5'7" and when I plugged my information into the site when I started they recommended 143 pounds for me.  So that is my goal.

I think sometimes when people get close to their goal they need to stop looking at the numbers and start toning it up!
What part of the site gives you your 'reccommended weight'?
I, too, am 5'8, so maybe I can relate!  I started out around 150, give or take a few, I rounded.  My goal was 140.  Then I hit that and my next goal was 135.  After hitting that, I went on down to 130 where I swore I'd stop.  Well, here I am today at 122.  I've finally hit a plateau and havent moved a single .1 of a pound in over a week, so I think my body's naturally telling me this is it.  I think you should set yourself at small goals, start 140 then 135, maybe it'll keep you more motivated to continue rather than seeing it as 'taking a longer time' to lose that weight.
135 would put you at the very bottom of the healthy BMI range for your height.

xjocelyn - click on tools at the top of the page.  You can calculate your BMI then set your goal.

kaliak, I'm so alarmed by your post!  If you are down to 122, then you are at an underweight BMI.  There is such a thing as going too far.  No offense meant, I'm just concerned for you.
When setting a goal, I'm inclined to recommend picking a comfort 'range' (say 135-140 for argument's sake) but also taking your measurements and, if possible, your body fat percentage, and incorporating them in the whole picture.
<p>
I'm just under 5' 8" and personally, looking at my frame, wouldn't go under 127.  I wouldn't necessarily notice that it looked bad (if I concentrated hard on just the number), but I think a bit of objective thinking about photographs/proportions suggests to me it wouldn't be a good idea. Perhaps just get used to thinking about the whole picture at different stages of weight loss.
it all depends on your body and how youf feel you look at different weights. i don't think there's necessarily a set number for each height, just a range, so somewhere in there is ideal...and you will be with 135. it also has a lot to do with muscle tone and body fat percentage, too.
