Weight loss group for breastfeeding moms!
I think that us moms who breastfeed just cannot compare ourselves to everyone else - except myabe those that are pregnant!
i try to focus on others and there calories and goals but mine just dont compare-- therefor i think we need our own weigh in group!!
im a mom to a 2 yr old and a five month old
i am 5'4 - 24 years old
starting weight-185 back from january
current -161.4
goal -135
i weigh in on tuesdays- but heck as long as we post are weights on whichever day we can support one another!
i think this will be fun- we can compare our excerise rather then to peep who workout vigorously since we have to keep our milk supply too!
What's your stats??
I am just re-joining cc after having my first baby. I would love to join this group, here are my stats:
- I have a 10-week old baby girl named Maddy
- height: 5'7"
- age: 27
- pre-pregnancy weight: 125
- delivery weight: 170
- current weight: 141.8
- target weight: 130 (maybe less, I'm not sure I'll ever get back to 125)
- weigh-in day: Thursay (usually)
I try to take a brisk 60-minute walk every day and an exercise class at least once a week. I usually try to keep my calories around 1800-1900/day- I'm really not sure if that's a good range to be in for breastfeeding, but it's about 200-300 more than I was eating pre-pregnancy.
welcome ladies- just post your weight as it continues to drop any time- i was stuck for a long time so i didnt post much but hopefully my body is back in gear!!
super excited for everyone- im glad so many of you r doing great- keep up the good work!!!
well i was 156.7 yest and today 158.2 but heck as long as 160 is gone i will be happy- just have to keep it away!!
Hello all! My beautiful 5 mo old son has started baby food, so the breast feeding had gone down, but I'm glad that this forum is here as well!
Breast feeding has helped me to loose a lot of my preggers pounds! I love it!
when baby was born: 185
Monday morning: 135
goal by sept 30th: 120
plan on weighing in every monday! I wish everyone luck, and some "skinny" jeans!
TO wsamemoon:
there is a condition called Diastasis Recti. Its when your stomach muscles seperate during pregnancy. Here is a website with some more information. http://www.befitmom.com. Of course, talk to your doctor.
Also, I forgot to put my info in the first post. 5ft 2in and smal frame. My pre pregnancy weight was 127. I gained 42 pounds with my first boy, now 6 years old, and it took my almost two years to loose it! I didn't breastfeed him, so that's probably why.
hey guys!!!
back just to log in my most recent weight, I too weigh daily but only log in weight from Monday. So, as of Monday I was 109. 1 lbs away from my 2nd goal weight... and 9 more to my final goal weight.
forgot 6 lbs less from the time i joined "breastfeeding mom trying to loose weight". Yup, still breastfeeding...........
just counting......
mom6, thanks I'll look into it.
Hi guys
Just to let you know i'm down to 161 lb, not bad, huh? The walking is really really helping, I can see everything is fitting better, looks like inches are going faster that weight itself.
keep it going!
Hello everybody:
I just got started too. I am glad I am not the only one
I have a 5 month old baby and I want to get back to my goal weight.
I am 31 years old 5'6 and I weight 180
My goal is 140.
Many people said you lose weight fast when nursing. My baby eats a lot!!! but I am losing little or nothing. how much calories do you usually burn when nursing? and what tips would you give to a mom like me? Also, do you get hungry after nursing at all?
Thanksss!!!
gj everyone on your weight loss!!
davicito-
they say that you burn anywhere from 200-500 cals breastfeeding per day :) my son is 8 months old and eats solids as well so im guessing im burning the 200 cals or so per day.
heres a calculator were u can insert your breastfeeding to see how many calories you burn per day:
http://www.nutritiondata.com/tools/calories-b urned
i think alot of walking with a stroller is great to lose pregnancy weight.. and you get to have your baby with you at the same time! :)
i dont really get hungry after nursing.. im just pretty much hungry 24 7 hah :) but i do get thirsty while bf'ing
gl!!!! :)
GREAT website anoxa!!! Loves it ;) Everything you read tells you 500 calories, but this one not only gives you your est calorie expendature, it also gives you suggested protein, carb & vitamin levels and even suggests a fat/protein/carb ratio for you to aim for when nursing!!! Great find!
It came out about 200 cals higher per day than CC estimates for me (wouldn't that be nice) LOL But then I add the breastfeeding calories to my burn meter by bumping my activity level up one notch (which really only adds about 300 cals/day). Very cool!
ahazel1980 i did the same thing and just bumped my activity lvl up too! glad you liked the website :) i love it too!
gl ! :)
Just weighing in.
179 this morning, down 1 pound from last Monday.
5 pounds since July 1! :)
Good luck ladies! Hope you're all enjoying your little ones!
To Davicito
You can expend up to 70% of your daily calorie intake while breastfeeding. It'll take a little while for your hormones to regulate themselves, then your metabolism should start back up. ( Took me about 3 weeks before I noticed weight comming off)
Also, look at where your calories are coming from. Us breast feeding mommies NEED to eat healthy, because what we put in our bodies is going to end up in our babies tummies!!!
My doctor suggested that I add roughly 200-300 calories. So for me that is around 1800-2100 calories a day. I don't do a set amount, rather a range. That way, if I slip up and have a big 'ol slice of cake i'm not beating myself up, because I'm still in my "range":)
im at 157.0 today! yay-- i think official 150's now!
I am so excited to have found this forum. I would really like to join, you ladies seem so supportive.
I have 2 sons (2 1/2 years and 4 1/2 months)
I weigh 187 lbs, 5'6, 29 years old.
My pre-pregnancy weight was 150. My goal weight is 155.
I didn't start losing weight after having my first son until I stopped breast feeding at 15 months. Within a few months I lost 20 lbs but then gained it right back with the second pregnancy. I don't want to wait until I stop breast feeding again but my weight doesn't seem to go anywhere whilst bf'ing. I've decided to go on a 'healthy' diet. But I am having problems managing the calories correctly and exercising.
1. How many calories should I take in? I've read everything from 1500 to 2700 (How is that possible)?
2. How do I find time to exercise when you have a full time job, two young children, and a household to manage?
Welcome Natty! We have about the same amount of weight to lose (I'm going from 179 to 140).
The trick to losing weight while breastfeeding is finding that magical # of calories that will allow you to lose 1-2 pounds per week without going too low and decreasing your milk supply. Finding YOUR number will take some trial and error. I started out at 2300-2500 calories for the first 2 months after Bella was born and didn't lose an ounce. So starting in week 9 I dropped my calories to 1700 and lost 5 pounds in 10 days. Losing that much so quickly caused my milk supply to decrease a bit, and so I've recently increased my calories to 1900-2000 a day and am working on boosting my supply. Hopefully this number will net me a loss of about 1.5 pounds per week, if not I'll adjust the calories and try again! LOL
For your height and weight I would start out with 2000 calories / day, try it for a week or two and adjust it from there. If you don't lose anything, knock 100 calories off, if you lose more than 2 pounds in a week add 50-100 cals.
Just make sure the food you eat is TOP QUALITY nutrition. Try to aim for a B+ or better on your analysis page every day, take in at least 90 grams of protein and drink LOTS of water.
Also, I think we all have problems fitting the exercise in. Just do what you can!
Good luck and congratulations on your little one!
Ahazel- its prob best u did up your cals some since u are so early with bfing still- i hope that works out for u- i did like 2000 in the beginning and weight just came off- 5 lbs would come off about after 20 days then the next after 40 idk why but my body seems to hold on for a while everytime i lose 5 lbs!
i have never noticed a big diff in milk- im doing the 1700 with cheat days of 2200-2300 and been doing well, havent noticed any milk drop!
i read that fenugreek is really good for a person normally so i was thinking of getting on some, but what would happen when i stopped bfing???
its crazy how diff everyone of us are w/ calories-
exercise has been so out of the picture for me this week- my 2 yr old has pink eye and recovering from ear infect and my lil man has been fightin an ear infect too - both w/ fevers so i am so worn out- trying to keep them good w/ meds and runnin back and forth to doctors and dealing with house and cooking! Ugh is this week over yet!!
I'm so glad the new plan is working for you! :) Funny how you said that your body wants to hold on every 5 pounds you lose. I upped the cals about a week ago, been staying between 1900-2000 every day, I got on the scale this morning and I'm UP a pound. :( I know I can't possibly have actually gained weight since I haven't overeaten, but it's still damn depressing. Maybe I'm like you and my body just wants to hold on a bit after those first 5 pounds. Hehe (Hope so anyway).
Adding those 200 calories made my milk come back in full force though after about 3 days, so I guess I can't really complain. ;)
My exercise lately has been just trying to stay awake for the 19 hour days this little girl has me workin! HAHAHA
Guess I just have to wait and see what happens...
Just weighing in...
Down 2 pounds from last Monday, 7 pounds from July 1st!
HooRah! ;)
SW: 184 CW: 177 GW: 140
Still weighin in at 157- but didnt workout all last week and the babies were all sick , but maybe next week somethin more!!
Thanks for the advise ahazel. I just wish I read it earlier.
Last week I did 1800 calories - Lost 5 lbs. But got terribly tired and sick by the end of the week. My milk supply also suffered.
Best believe my calorie intake is going up this week.
Shauna - I don't know if you like to drink tea, but I have this great tea that includesfennel, fenugreek and anise which are all supposed to promote lactation. It's called Yogi Tea - It's an organic tea for nursing moms and its caffeine free
Where can I see 1/8th or 1/6th of a pie or angel food cake?
This is the best way to picture a portion of pie or cake: Draw a circle to represent the circumference of the cake or pie (9" pie? 10" cake?... Read more
