Weight loss group for breastfeeding moms!

Quote  |  Reply

I think that us moms who breastfeed just cannot compare ourselves to everyone else - except myabe those that are pregnant!

i try to focus on others and there calories and goals but mine just dont compare-- therefor i think we need our own weigh in group!!

im a mom to a 2 yr old and a five month old

i am 5'4 - 24 years old

starting weight-185 back from january

current -161.4

goal -135

i weigh in on tuesdays- but heck as long as we post  are weights on whichever day we can support one another!

i think this will be fun- we can compare our excerise rather then to peep who workout vigorously since we have to keep our milk supply too!

What's your stats??

Thanks, bikinibound! :) I was wondering if you'd want to adjust fir the feedings amount. My son seems to be going through a growth spurt again. How much do you fluctuate your calories for the feedings?

m0m6,

Yeah, pumping really complicates things, or it did for me. I think it was because my office was mostly male and I was the only mama in the office. The six week TDY must have affected it ... they're usually good with breaks, but not 20 minutes at a time! :/ I think the fact that I didn't pump during the day and dropped calories abruptly and was working  out all played a part in my milk. This time, since I got out, there's a little less pressure to lose.

Hey everyone,

I am a mom of 6 wonderful angels. all range from 12 yrs old to my precious new one who joined us on June 19,2008. she was my quickest delivery took 10 min and she was born in the back of the ambulance outside my home. I am 32 yrs old 5' 6' and 209 as of mid July haven't weighed since. I bf my first child 6 months he bit hard once teeth came in. I bf my 3 child till 1 yr old. I got to bf my 4th through feeding tube and for a week before he passed. I lost two others both daughters. then got my precious angel my most difficult feeder. I agree we are different than the rest we are lucky to get a shower and one meal a day as moms and nursing moms we adjust our diet to fit our baby.  WE CAN ALL MEET OUR GOALS AS MOMS TO LOSE OUR WEIGHT IF WE BELIEVE IN US AND HELP SUPPORT EACH OTHER.

I'm a mother of a 3 month old.  (Not to mention my 8 yo, 6 yo, & 3 yo!)  I'm nursing, and with my other kids I did so until they stopped being interested!  Maybe that happened sooner before since I was working (pumping at work) & now I'm home & only give bottles infrequently.

Anyway, before baby I was fluctuating in the 147 area.  Now I'm a whopping 172!!!  I can't believe I put on 25 lbs of FAT during my pregnancy!  I'm overwhelmed with the though of trying to reach my goal of 130.

My stats:

32 years old
5'4"
171.8 lbs as of this morning
goal of 130 lbs

MY BIGGEST QUESTION:  How many cals do you think I should be adding per day for nursing?  If CC says I should aim for 1400 cals a day, is 300 the magic number people use for nursing?  Should I aim for 1700?  I heard it could be anywhere between 200 & 500 so I dunno.

Good luck all!

Hello ladies, I hope you guys had a great weekend. I can't seem to be able to stop eating junk, I do well one day and the next day I fall off the wagon again... I don't know what to do.

Any of you guys had a tough time getting started???

YES!!! Almost 9 months of tasty treats, and now having to stop? If it is a serious issue, then throw out all the junk today and don't buy anymore. So much easier when you physically don't have the junk in the house!

to POOHB: I started out at the same weight. My doctor told me to take my pre-pregnancy cal intake and add 300-400 calories to that, if I want to have enough cal for breast feeding. Also, small snacks through out the day help with the weight loss too.

Thanks m0m!  Heh, that sounds funny.  I'm going to try adding 300 and see how it goes.  It will be an experiment that I can learn from only by sticking with it, which is the hard part, but I shall try!  I MUST start getting back into my regular clothing, it's ridiculous!

Hi, I am new to this group. Been breastfeeding almost 6 months! I was 152 before getting preg, went up tp 190 now about 160.Trying to get to 130. I have been eating around 2000 a day and doing about 30 mins of walking 4x a week. So far the weight has been sticking. I am 5'5 What do ya think?

oops , some just asked the same question! well hello anyway!Embarassed

Yeah, i love the sweets too! Buy some pre- sliced apples or dried fruit in a bag and just grab a handful when you get the cravin's! I started doing that this week and I've been able to limit myself to one Twix so far. YIPPEE!! It's also a lot easier, as you don't get choco-fingers!

Stats:

130 lbs today

Hi I just started on here. I am a SAHM to a 5 year old and a 11 month old. I am 28 years old, 5'4" and 153 pounds. My goal weight is 125. I got down to 141 pounds after I had my daughter but then began gaining. I thought you were suppose to lose weight when you are breastfeeding. I know I'm not taking in over 2500 calories per day. So today I am going to get up off the toosh and make a real go at it. Does anyone know if B vitamins are okay to take while breastfeeding? I look forward to talking to everyone....

U know i have been able to get over most all sweets like snickers and dove chocolates but ice cream i am not ever giving up! Oh i love it to much - i just havent found that ability to limit it to once maybe twice a week but i will get there!

oh i hit 154.4 yest and now am averaging around 154.8 so woo hoo im goin to buy a skillet this weekend!! I love cooking so cooking stuff are  my fav rewards!!

i dont know much about vitamins except i take my prenatals!

I have been drinking strong green tea and taking high potency B complex vitamins to boost the metabolism as well as drinking at least 2 liters of water everyday. I have been moderately watching what I eat but not to the extent of starving. In the last week I have went from 156 pounds to 150.5. Obviously something I am doing is working....I was so excited when I got on the scale this morning.

Hi Ladies, I'm so glad to hear that some of you guys are doing great with your eating habits, great job!!!!

On the other hand... I am doing terrible, I don't even want to get on a scale to see how much  weight. Just thinking about it depresses me. I am almost certain I have gain some. I am about ready to give up!

Every time I cut down on calories I see a change in my milk production. I know my baby's health and well being is more important than the way I look. The problem is that every time I look at my self in the mirror I don't like what I see, it's amazing ho much your body changes after pregnancy.

I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO!!!!!

hi guys,

How is everyone doing with their respective weight loss? I'm hitting my 3rd plateau. I'm kinda bum about it because it take me forever to break plateau. The last time, it took me 2 weeks to break it.

I'm actually 9 lbs away from my goal weight.... any suggestions? Oh yeah, can not fit any work out... 2 kids and studying for my boards keeps my day full.

I'm hoping my continued breast feeding and limiting my caloric intake should do the trick.

well i know its easy to give up- i do it w/o the intention - one  day i just stop counting honestly then 1 month later and time to get back on track! i think sometimes we need time off any ways when it is duch a time consuming process! so dont give up! i have had a hard 2weeks but hopefully i can kick my butt back into gear! we moved out of our rv park into the state park so now me and hubby go for nightly walks which is really nice! We even try to throw some running in- although he lasts longer then me- dam him for being in shape! lol

but im basically 154 and w/ some fluctuation obviously but im still working on it and not giving up! i really want to hit 135- but my new goal is 149 and then im thinking a reward again- im not sure what!

my plateaus lasted at least a month- typically but the longest was like 2.5 months- but i think its obvious i wasnt trying as hard!! keep going strong ladies!!

Hello,

I just found your breastfeeding area and would like to join. I'm a breastfeeding mom who is having a heck of a time burning that baby fat! I've been doing vigours walking for the last month 3-5 times a week, going three miles. Not to mention all the chasing of a 2.5 year old and a 7month old! I have to eat 1,800 calories or my milk supply dried up. I'm 5'10 and 169 pounds. The exercise has increased my endurance and I feel better, but I haven't lost one pound! I've been keeping a food journal and eating 1,700 to 2,000 calories a day. Accouring to http://www.ahealthyme.com/CalBurn.do I burn 3,600 a day on the days I walk and 3,300 on the days I don't.

I used to weigh 130 pounds, which was pretty thin BUT I never dieted, that was "just my weight" I'd like to get down to 145 by Christmas. Any ideas or suggestions? Can you post this on the forum? I haven't figured that one out yet!

Thanks!

A new mom wasnt sure how to post-- lets help her out ladies!!!

-- I know some moms have such a hard time losing and sometimes when u get so close to healthy bmi your body holds onto the weight for breastfeeding!  I would suggest that fenugreek herb if u need to increase supply-- and typically make sure you alternate the calories for at least a cheat day-- when i first started i did 1500 and didnt lose for a month increased to 2000 and lost great w/o workouts so u need to try diff calories intakes each week untill u find that number that works!! sometimes its hard to start but once u get losing u get motivated!! Good luck!
