Weight loss group for breastfeeding moms!

Quote  |  Reply

I think that us moms who breastfeed just cannot compare ourselves to everyone else - except myabe those that are pregnant!

i try to focus on others and there calories and goals but mine just dont compare-- therefor i think we need our own weigh in group!!

im a mom to a 2 yr old and a five month old

i am 5'4 - 24 years old

starting weight-185 back from january

current -161.4

goal -135

i weigh in on tuesdays- but heck as long as we post  are weights on whichever day we can support one another!

i think this will be fun- we can compare our excerise rather then to peep who workout vigorously since we have to keep our milk supply too!

What's your stats??

Hi Mommies!!

I'm excited to find this group.

My stats:

5'9, 164 lbs, my gorgeous son is 14 months (almost) and my goal weight is 140.

I lost 5 lbs a few months ago, but I got off track with exercise and ate what ever I wanted so now back to the hard work.

I used to do a difficult uphill hike with my son in the Ergo carrier 4-5x a week, but the summer heat has chased me indoors.  I go to the gym now, I've been good about it for a month.  Wow, it is so hard to stay motivated.  My weight hasn't budged but my arms are getting less flabby.  I am exhausted all the time and I find myself eating my son's snacks.  It is hard not to eat when tired.

Anyway, I had so much fun eating desserts and chips and guacamole and pizza.  It's going to be a tough row to hoe to get all of this weight off. I really want to stick to it this time!!

Thanks!

Shelly

Hey ladies-- so who is still with me and going strong???

i fall off the wagon quite a bit- but this week im back on- my hubby and i even made a bet to see who can go longest w/o ice cream this time- i had completely stopped caring and ice cream at night is my weakness and i dont need it!!!

so im back to this- and still bfing my precious boy Jordan so im sticking with 1750-1850 and hopefully that is going to work--

when i look back on what i was currently eating i was doing bad again- how does everyone do this so continuously without stopping- praise to them!!

let me know how are u all doing??

Hi all,
I am stilll here, checking in occasionally. I decided to try the South Beach Diet last Monday (one week ago) and was feeling really good after only a few days. I immediately lost the bloated look though the scale only showed about 2 pounds lost after the first 3 days or so. My energy was up, it was awesome! Then all of a sudden I started feeling really tired, hungry and craving naughty foods. I panicked, didn't know if  could keep up the diet. On Saturday night, I started my period for the first time since my baby was born (She is almost 6 months old) Though I was bummed to start my periods again, I am relieved to know that probably I was craving bad things, didn't lose much, feeling tired and hungry all because of Aunt Flow. So now I am back to it more determined than ever. Oh and by the way there was some concern about whether a low carb diet was OK during BFing, and my milk supply has not suffered at all. Baby is great, and she gets fruit and veggies now, so she is not completely reliant on milk anymore, but mostly. I eat lots of veggies. Fruit has been hard to give up but it's only for 2 weeks on South Beach! :)
Good Luck to all!
Rachel

Hey everyone!!

Things are going pretty good for me - I totally binged out over the weekend though - pizza, desserts, arghh!  I have hit 154-155 and losing.  I'm getting ready to go the gym - it is an all day affair to schedule in a workout.  It is so hard to stay motivated, but my scale is motivating for me so far.  I find that when I'm counting calories, I naturally eat less bread and starchy carbs - because they have a lot of calories.  I eat lots of foods that have a lot of water in them - fruits, veggies- and you can eat a lot more of those.  Crackers and bread, while delicious, are loaded up with calories and you can eat so much more fruit and veggies and still have less calories.  My son's snacks are generally crackers and things like that - it's hard not to gobble them up (like I did last night).  Dieting is such a lifestyle.  I feel like I've been on a rollercoaster diet since I was 14.  At my lightest, I weighed 127- that is so hard to imagine right now.  I'm babbling - I have foggy, tired mommy brain.

I don't know if I just ate too many snacks or what, but breastfeeding never really helped me to lose weight.

Hello one and all

Just gonna quickly post my stats.

Mon 22 sept: 129lbs

Goal by Oct 9th : 120-125lbs

I jump a couple of pounds a day, so that's why I usually do a "range"

now all I have to do is tone up my flabby arms and tummy some more!!

Hey everyone! Name's Danielle. I'm 26. I came upon this forum when I was searching "breastfeeding and plateau". Lol. Laughing It's cool to hear about everyone's successes to date and I would like to post my stats.

Pre-pregnancy weight: 148 (big for me)

Weight week before birth: 179

Weight at 6-week check-up: 157

Weight Now: 143.8

Goal: 120-125

I just hit a plateau but I think it might have been the candy bar a day and the two candy bars I had on Thursday. I swore that I wouldn't eat anymore candy for a week and so far (it's been 3 days), I'm doing good. I never had a sweet tooth before getting pregnant but I have one now. I'm trying to get rid of it though.

I am a new SAHM (plan on staying home for the 1st year) to a beautiful 3 mo. old baby girl. I exclusively breastfeed and have no idea how many calories I should be eating. I try to stay around 1800 but frequent the 2000 range.

so awesome - everyone is doing pretty well then-- i have such a hard time putting myself on a diet with ordered foods and guidelines.

Shellyg i love carbs- i feel i need them for some reason and so i look for the light version of breads and lays light original chips- mmm mmm good. But awesome u are doing good.

my lil man is almost 10 months so im throwing in a cup of milk a day just to eventually wean him by the time he is 12 months- wow- time has gone fast!!

i think breastfeeding is slowly helping me- but in the beginning pounds just fell off now my body holds them - i have been basically 153 though and i really want to hit 135!! thats less then 20 lbs! im excited but it is tough with all these bbq's! Although i bought some turkey brats the other day- wow they were good!! and a good snack toasted light english muffin- 100 cals and 1 tbsp hummus- 25 cals! awesome!!!

i think i always have food on my mind- irr:(

good luck ladies!!

Does anyone occasionally take a week long break on purpose?  I woke up this morning and after doing 30 minutes of tae bo during the day when my little one's taking a nap and jogging/walking 30 minutes after my husband gets home (been doing this since after my 6-week doc appt), my muscles feel tired and I just plateaued.

I was wondering if taking a break would jump start my weight loss again when I start fresh next week.  Any ideas or experiences?

Hi everyone!  I just started this calorie counting and exercising and hoping to lose this weight somewhat quickly.  Anyone know what the lowest intake of calories should be if you are breastfeeding?  I just don't want to cut it too much and lower my milk supply.  I am a mother of 4 children: 3 yr. old twins, a 2 yr. old, and a 7 week old.

I am 5'5" and 28 yrs old

Current weight:147

Goal: 130

WOW! You must be a very strong and patient woman!

Try to plug in your Pre-pregnancy cals to the CC calculator, and add about 300 to that. Of course talk to the doc, but that's what my doc told me.

I was able to drop about 42 pounds over the last 7 months, so it worked for me. Just the last stubborn stupid 10-15 to go!!

January of 2007 I used this web site to loose weight.  I did loose it got down to 141. Yeah! Then october of 2007 I got pregnant. Start weight was 155 July 2 weighed in at 207 had the baby on July 3rd.  Now she is 3 months old and I am down to 183. I lost that in the first month I haven't lost a thing in the past 2 months. I completely breastfeed.  I am starting weight training tonight.  I am a little scared that my milk supply will lessen, any ideas? It is great to be back. Thank you!

welcome back georgieann!!

when my baby was that age i ate around 2000 cals and the weight just fell off! now im at 153 and jd is 10 months and my body is being difficult!

if i was u i would try the 2000 cals if your milk weakens that fenugreek herb is supposed to do wonders! so look into that

but i try to throw in weigh training for 30 min 4 x a week and 1600 cals but i keep losing motivation but hopefully i will pull through this as will u !

good luck

Im new to dieting, and would love any/all advice! I am making a goal to lose 20 lbs by Christmas. Tough during the holidays, but my dh and I are going on vacation in January. Any ways...I am 26yrs old, bfing exclusively my 12 Wk old preemie (he arrived 6.5 wks early).

Height: 5' 0"

Pre Preg weight: 112 (almost goal!)

Current weight: 132 lbs

Goal: 110

I am really having a tough time here, so I hope this community helps out. I have not lost any weight since baby, and am in dire need not just for looks, but I also want to be healthy and set a good example for my munchkins (5). I know I haven't been the best at making my calories "count" and now I want to make that a priority for my life. So please help me stay motivated! My husband just says "I love you no matter what" Sweet yes, but I also need encouragement to get to a size/health level that I love myself too! I hate the way I look. Yuck.

I guess I can jump on this train now. I was about 115 until shortly before becoming pregnant. I moved and gained 8 lbs after losing my gym and regular routine. My stats...

Pre-pregnancy 1/08 - 123 lbs

Delivery - 142 lbs

Today (2 days postpartum) - 125.8 lbs

Goal weight - 115-118 lbs (my body's comfortable healthy past weight)

I am 5'3" and have a small frame. Breastfeeding has already shrunk my belly down to almost nothing and I think that is amazing. I just hope running again is not horribly difficult with my huge milk jugs! LOL! Surprised

I can relate to the fear about the running and boob pain! I have always been very small up top, so going up a size or two really REALLY HURT! Under armor  and Hanes make a really good "over the shoulder boulder holder". Try to get a razor back kind, because is offers more support, and don't forget to bring extra shields for leakage!

scale actually read s 150.4 today-- wow happy happy happy- slow and steady wins the race ladies!

yay to everyone!
