Alli is the only over-the-counter FDA approved weight loss pill in the U.S.  Those who have had success with it say that the few pounds a month (if any) that they lost, could have been lost anyway because of the change in diet (cutting out fatty foods to avoid the nasty poo side affect).  Many people comment that while it worked a little, it wasn't worth the cost.

As for Slim Quick, it's described as being safe (as opposed to weight loss pills that are full of caffeine); however, results are really minimal. (Supplement Critic)

For successful weight loss, nothing beats healthy eating and regular exercise.  Not to mention, if you want your weight loss to be for a lifetime, changing your lifestyle is your best bet.

If you truly feel you need a supplement to kick-start your weight loss, then consult with your doctor.  There are weight loss programs available through hospitals across the country, which give you that little boost.  A few of my friends did the weight loss (liquid) programs offered at our local hospital, and all but one of them reached their goal weight.  Sadly though, they all gained the weight back within months of going off of the program because they didn't learn how to eat right or portion out their meals.

I personally have tried alot of diets and diet pills and eating healthier seems to work the best. Just figuring out calorie intake for the day and exercise and then I calorie shift. Works good for me.

can someone explain what calorie shifting is? Thanks

From Wise Geek

The basic premise (doesn't necessarily mean that it works) of calorie shifting includes the following concepts:

  • Instead of eating the same calories and types of foods each day, people evaluate total calorie needed for a week.
  • Rather than eating the same amount of calories each day to reach this total, people vary their calorie consumption amounts each day while still remaining within the total weekly calorie allotment.
  • Since the body doesn’t know what to expect, the metabolism can’t adjust or slow down because calorie intake on a daily basis will be variable.
  • Further the metabolism can’t adjust to certain foods, since foods eaten will vary in nature.

I'm am not an advocate of calorie shifting or zig-zg dieting.  To me it's just another type of diet with temporary results.  As tessjoly, and so many others on here comment, healthier eating works the best for a better chance at permanant or long-term weight loss.

With any new weight-loss/wrinkle reducer/ bust enhancer/ cellulite remover/ penis enlarger/ hair grower-thickener/ age-defying magic pill/cream/liquid/or powder that is advertised the first thing my eyes go for are:

*results not typical. (and then usually something about a good diet & exercise and/or plastic surgery follows those words Tongue out).

Seriously, if people are going to pay the kind of money these places want for this snake oil crap, the results should not only be typical but guaranteed.

If whatever you're looking at says "*results not typical", run the other way and spend your money on a gym membership or a cart-load of fresh food instead.

Hee hee!  I had this thought about putting '***Results not typical' on my before/after profile pic!  When it comes to someone who weighed more then 400 pounds losing 220+ through a healthy lifestyle change.... that is NOT typical these days.  Seems the norm anymore for someone in my position is to have surgery.  Sometimes you have to do what you have to do to get the weight off to save your life.  I'm just extremely greatful that I was able to do it naturally through a healthy lifestyle change (no need for diet pills or supplements).  Go me!  Brag, brag, brag.....

Google 'results not typical' and see what pops up.  It's hilarious!  Then again, it's also kind of sad.

By the way, the inquisitive dirty old lady in me had me searching for penis enlarger results on the Web.  Phew!  I need to get out more!  Thanks a lot erin~ for putting the thought into my head!  Sealed

You're welcome Laughing (heeheehee)

And you're only partially right.  Your results would be typical, but your determination and patience are not.  Most are so obsessed with instant gratification that you're right about the rest of it :-(

Go on, brag some more.  Frankly, everyone on here needs to know to look at your photo gallery Kiss  THOSE are the results of a good diet and good exercise plan!!

OF COURSE MANY OF THESE PILLS WORK BUT THEY ARE DEFINITELY NOT HEALTHY.

they change how your body will digest food...many block the fats, good fats too.  There is a dependency on them that develops...your body will expect them to be there and if not...the weight comes back on very quickly.  You become a pill popper.  Is that what you want?

Please try the safest way, eat a well balanced diet with more water than other fluids, exercise and do not take pills or use kits to lose the weight.

Educate your Mom on how you plan to do it using CC website.  Lots of good guidance there and maybe she will see it is the way to go too.

These pills are not free also, so the saving in $$ is something to consider as well.

Our bodies were made to eat food not pills.

I decided to try SlimQuick at one point. Well, what can I say... it made me pee and pee and pee. Yeah, it had this diuretic effect. It also somewhat curbed my hunger. But than I got smart and decided to do it on my own. I still have like half of the bottle. I take couple pills before my period when I am bloated and it does help with this problem.
