Weight Loss Pills, do they work????
I have an extremely hard time losing weight and I think that it has a lot to do with the fact that I am always hungry. I try eating large amounts of low calorie foods so that I can feel fuller but nothing seems to work. I was wondering if any of you have tried a weight loss pill and had success. I eat healthy although I do suffer from the occasional binge, and I exercise at least 20 min each day. Let me know which ones you've tried and what your opinions of them are. Thank you!!
i have tried hydroxy cut and some other pills as well, and no they dont work. I think we already established that...my suggestion to you would be just keep trying, eat healthy, it doesnt mean to eat in large amounts of it, and excersise, and trust me you will lose it!
Good luck to you
I doubt many people on this site will suggest "pills" as a solution. Try eating higher volume food like popcorn etc. Also, if I get hungry between meals, a cup of coffee usually does the trick...most of those pills just have high amounts of caffeine anyway. Best of luck!
Oh, and chew gum.
i have tried them when i was younger.. any otc weight loss pill was a waste of time, in my opinion.
phentermine prescription weight loss pills like ioniman (sp?) fastin and adipex worked really well i didn't like the phendimetrazine prescription pills though. and didrex worked also those are amphetamines though. i got them from a diet doc in nyc who prescribed to even thin people, so.. i think to get these (from a normal doctor at least thats what is indicated in the pdr) you need to be 30% overweight though. they totaly kill your hunger and also give you more energy to work out (the phentermine and didrex). I would take them if I could get them.
good luck.
It's a lifestyle change to lose weight and keep it off. Unless you plan on living on weight loss pills your entire life, I would suggest doing it the real way in watching what you eat and portions ;)
Except for fad diets that made me feel awful and cranky, I have never lost weight by trying to limit food and exercising. A bout of acute gastritis cased me to cut out caffeine, fatty and spicy foods, alcohol, chocolate and tomatos, and decreased all of my portions. I logged about 1550-1650 cal every day. My normal workout routine of the last several years includes 2.5-3 hours of cardio and 2 days of weights per week, and I do change intensity and weights. I lost nothing in 2 months. I have only lost weight when I use supplements. Sorry for defying common sense but that's my experience.
I have been put on Phentermine by my Dr. I have been on it for 1 month and I have lost 22 lbs. I have to see him once a month while I am on this but that is a small price to pay. I have lost my hunger. I eat about 1300 calories a day and I have been walking 6 miles a day at a brisk pace. I have found it easy to push my plate back in fact I have to force myself some days to even eat a 1000 cal. He did make me promise him one thing, that I would eat three meals a day and a bedtime snack or he wouldn't put me on this. Normally you would lose about 10 lbs a month but I guess I had a lot of extra to get rid of. I am not saying that it is a cure all but it has made me (a constant binge eater who lived at buffets) into a subway, salad, green vegetable, no red meat eater who has his sugar in control and a lot of extra money in his pocket kind of guy.
"MY" personal experience is NO DIET PILLS WORK...if you want to lose weight it "must" start with a lifestyle change which includes nutrition and an exercise plan to achieve the goals you desire...and trust me when I say this...I have tried A LOT of different pills and plans...and if there were truly a "silver bullet" pill I would have had it....but long term and safety wise its just hard work, lots of sweat, and determination which will carry the day.

Three tricks that worked for me. 1. Eat every hour when your getting going. Just something small a skim milk cheese stick, a hard boiled egg... if your awake 12 hours and eat 80 calories and hour that 960 callories. 2. Drink at least 3 Liters of water a day. Water equals fullness. 3. Sunflower seeds. Good fatty acids and i theorize that you cant eat and be hungry at the same time. I'd nibble on sunflower seeds with shell for hours on end at work and consume maybe 250 calories in 4 hours.
Other foods you can eat on this once every hour kick.
can of tuna or crab (in water) Celery (a personal favorite fiberous and exands in your stomach). 1.5 ounce sleeve of nuts (2 hours) these babys rock but are high cal. small side salad from any place. no dressing. a piece of fruit if your not doing the carb thing A serving of lunch meat rolled up. A chicken breast boneless/skinless
In my opionion Eat Eat Eat to loose weight, but dont eat junk.
Crave sweats? have a sugar free Jello with a spoonful of whipped topping.
Just some things that have worked for me.
joe PS i'm not saying eat 980 calories a day. Unless your extremely small build and near your target weight you need 1500 plus calories or your body will enter starvation mode and hold fat and eat the high energy muscle.
Depending on HOW OVERWEIGHT you are, it is a disease, not just a problem. The problem is the weight loss industry is a multi billion dollar "instant" success formula promise that everyone wants to believe in, because we all know how hard it really is to lose weight. If you are medically diagnosed as OBESE you are sick, not just heavy! Realizing you are sick is important.
"Cabbage soup" diets, and 1001 other fad diets exist. And for some few, they have had amazing results. Remember the guy who lost all the weight just eating Subway sandwiches? No doubt it worked for him too! Do you think it would work for you or me? I doubt it.
So the question you need to ask, is not does this diet work, or that pill work? The question is where do I find a medical team to help me deal with a medical condition. AndI don't mean one that just says "eat less and exercise more". You need special attention. You need your metabolism measured, and a meal plan tailored to deal with your body type and needs. And last but not least, you need a support network, both at the medical clinic, and at a place like this or a real live support group. Losing weight it going to take time, it is going to be and up and down battle, and you need help when it is good and bad.
Today I weighed in at my clinic, and I was UP in weight. I was so mad. I have been exercising, and eating even less than my meal plan...and my weight was up! What a downer! But the staff were so supportive. They didn't look at me like "you cheated" or anything, they simply cheerfully said, this is the days when it really counts that you come in...the days when it isn't all high fives.
Anyway, most pills, diets and such are sadly not well tested, or even really accountable for the claims they make. NOTE THE DISCLAIMER on all the ads you see (see WW or Jenny C and they are REPUTABLE compared to most!!!) They say results vary and not all people see result as shown in the pictures.

I eat a lot of dense, low cal food too, but I always have things like nuts, olive oil. Make sure you have having healthy amounts of good fats too, they help with feeling satisfied, and are recommended for amino acids.
Oh, and if you crave chocolate, try chocolate covered coffee beans. Smacking with flavor, you don't need to eat so many.
Fats, fibre, carbs, protein, all components of a diet, but they needed to be blended to your body type, your lifestyle, and YOUR COMMITMENT! There are chocolate products (Soy Chocolate "nuts" for instance that are high protein that are a heck of a lot better for you than coffee beans). What I am saying is I am not a doctor, and so far I haven't seen too many here who are.
Treat your problem (if it is a problem) as a medical issue and take the steps necessary. That means research it, get the help, and that doesn't mean asking friends or us. It means finding real, good medical based help. Then where people like us, and a site like this comes in, is to help you stay focused. This site is invaluable in finding out what is in all those things we put in our mouth all day long. If we are "aiming" to put in x number of grams of carbs, y number of grams of protein, and staying under z number of fats, then this site is perfect to help.
Getting support on your down days, when nothing seems to be going your way, when you slip and, a couple of cookies find thier way into your gullet...a place like this can help you to realize it isn't the end of the world and not the reason to throw all the diet out the window and let go completely...but get back on track for the rest of the day, week and month.
No single food, no single exercise, no single machine, even surgery...which I am on a waiting list for, is not going to make the change needed. Surgery, which some people think is the thing that will mean they can still go on down to Taco Bell and pig out, but not worry about the fat rolls... well it isn't true...you need to change your life, even before you get the surgery. And after the surgery, even more. So what I am saying is there is no short cut, no easy answer.
Be careful. Most doctors are are not aware of how to help people lose weight. Search out bariatric specialists, or highly recommended clinics that deal in multi disipline ways of dealing with weight loss, not just a single solution. You will need to have to see people to check your current health, your metabolism, your heart etc... then go from there...
