I am 42 and 137 lbs. I eat about 1300-1400 calories per day. I walk at least 5 km. per day 5 - 6 days per week and I have a semi active job with some walking involved. I have lost a total of 13 lbs, but can't seem to lose anymore. I would like to weigh around 133 lb. Do you have any suggestions?
Answer
Your walking routine is probably burning fewer calories than before because your body has become efficient at performing that activity. You can either change to a new exercise that uses different muscles or start an interval training program to pump up your intensity. You could also add strength- training to build more muscle because muscle burns calories. Do not drop your calorie intake because you are not over-eating, but make sure that your food logs are accurate. Also remember that weight usually drops in steps instead of in a straight line. So you can log your weight -- which allows you to do the following:
- Plot your weight curve
- Analyze the trend of your weight (see under Recent in the figure above)
- Determine the projected target date (see under Overall in the figure above)
