My weight loss secret... went from 200 pounds during pregnancy to 114 pounds now

Of course I counted my calories and I always made homemade things because it's easier to keep track of calories cause you know what you're putting in and not to mention it's healthier and cheaper :D

The main thing I did for working out was actually really really fun.  I played ddr (dance dance revolution) there's a work out mode and I think even people that didn't like video games would enjoy this game.

You follow the arrows on the screen with your feet on a special mat that comes with the game.  It's for the ps2 and now the ps2 is super cheap.

I would play every other day as a new mother I barely had time but I always managed to play for at least a half hour.  When I didn't have time or felt too tired to play it i'd just do sit-ups while watching t.v or i'll play with my kid and that helped too.

Good luck guys!

I know a lot of people who rely on DDR for working out.  Unfortunately with my sucky knee, it's not an option.  Some days walking makes it dislocate.  Oh, how I long for medical insurance..

I've had a good weight-loss project going on for the past week.  Packing up my apartment, flea treating, and now unpacking.  I'm worn out.  and there's o much to do.  Uuuuuugh, I hate moving furniture...
200 to 114 is very impressive!! congrats! i'd love to try out the ddr...i think it'd be perfect for me as i hate going to the gym and prefer to do my workouts at home...the treadmill we have at home is getting so boring and uninspiring...i have a ps2, so i'm looking forward to getting it! what the heck, i'll learn a thing or two about dancing with it too...that's a bonus for someone with two left feet lol...i'm starting to jump rope too as part of my home workouts and i find it pretty convenient as well. thanks for sharing!
Another fun option is the Nintendo Wii... some of those games give you a pretty decent workout!
going outside is also good.

sorry, but i hate this video game culture.  i'm sure you've all seen the new crib toys that basically train infants to fall asleep in front of the TV.  it's sickening.
Agreed, but it's a nice option when you live in Canada where it's winter 10 months out of the year (the other two months are a mix between spring and fall... something I like to call "BLAH!"). I was gunna type "it'll be a cold day in hell before I go for a run outside when it's minus 30" but I think winter in E-town DOES count as "a cold day in hell". :P
oh, i know.  i'm in canada - and not in the south (i'm at about the same latitude as you, actually!).  i'm looking at three inches of fresh snow as we speak.

the GOOD thing about where we are is that you burn more calories exercising in the cold, so you don't have to do it as long!

but don't exaggerrate, babyd.  you're propagating stereotypes of us!  yes, it was a **** summer, but winter doesn't last 10 months.  c'mon!

That's great. I've thought DDR was the coolest thing ever, ever since seeing it in the boardwalk arcade several years ago. I'm a little bit afraid to do it myself, because I've had  joint replacement and it looks kind of high impact.... but very cool!
LOL true, but sometimes it feels like it. I don't consider it summer unless I can walk around outside with shorts and a t-shirt on. This year summer came very late for us, and when it did come.. so did the huge helicopter sized mosquitos. Ahh gotta love it. Thank God Canada has so many other good things going for it!

Are you east of me or west? If you're in BC, I envy you! Well not so much for the snow part. We've been lucky so far.. no snow yet.
yep, BC.  prince george, to be exact (hence the name).  i'm from the south (kootenays), but am here for grad school.

we had some summer in may, then it went away until...well, september, really.  tons of rain.  i love camping in the mud!

i'm predicting snow for you in about...eight hours ;-)

I've been using Dance Dance Revolution as a form of working out as well. The work out mode is awesome, I love it.

With counting calories, exercising at the ymca and playing DDR, I've lost slightly over 30 pounds since July or this year.

Woot!

I've tried DDR and it's freakin' tough!! I got winded just doing 10 minutes of the thing and I missed a bunch of steps. LOL!

I'm in Regina and we had a great summer. And still no snow on the ground! I'm planning on taking a walk around the lake tomorrow.

DDR is going to be a Christmas present to myself Laughing

That is the most ridiculous thing  Ihave EVER heard!?

how on earth can you compare a computer game that is fun and helps you burn calories, not to mention increase reaction times, stamina, energy blah blah blah, to something that crappy parents use to get their kids out of their hair

Yes, going out DOES help.  But not everyone can do so!

sheeeessshhh

I do not like video games, but I LOVE DDR. Its completely different, since you use your whole body. I haven't played in a long time, and suddenly might find my mat and a friend with playstation to play!
ok so this might sound weird but this post actually gave me a reason to play the game. long story but to make it short, my daddy bought it for me like 4 years ago when i was 11 and i used to play it all the time, but he just died last christmas and i have been to scared to play it since. but then i read this post and went and played it becausei  remembered that it had work out mode. and it tells you how many calories youve burned and like how many jump rope thigns its equivalent too. yayy for new forms of exercise!

Oh i'm all for going out if possible but what I meant was since I was a new mother and barely any time or babysitter it was much more convenient for me to work out at home while watching my son and recovering from my c-section.  I think DDR is perfect for anyone that has little time to do much or just plain and simple don't feel like going out.
abbynormal There's settings you could twink so that it doesn't have crazy steps.  The way I do it is that I don't have the "gallop" steps on.  All I have is jumps and normal arrows.  In work out mode you could just put in the opinion it asks before you start to turn work out step on and that'll take out all the fast arrows and in work out mode it also doesn't matter if you miss steps, there'll never be a game over and you could keep burning calories and it'll show you even if you miss steps but still press a arrow with your feet
