Weight loss is slowing down!!!

Quote  |  Reply

Just when I think it is finally working....it slows down!!  It's so discouraging! I am 4' 11'' and would rather not tell my weight but its tooo much for me! I walk everyday...2 miles uphill for part of it... limit my calories to 1100 a day.... and chase a 15 month old around the house all day. I know 1100 calories doesn't sound like enough but CC says 1250, so I try to stay under just in case I snack a little! Anyway...I have not lost any weight so far this month.  Gone up and down 2 pounds or so but no significant change.  I have lost 38 pounds so far since I started in February.  Should I walk farther?  Eat less? I live in Florida so it is just too hot to walk in the morning anymore...I had to start going in the evening...is that the problem?

Well... I know its contrary... but you should probably eat MORE.  1100 is below all recommended levels for what a normal woman needs in a day.  I would stick with what CC says... or even go a little over that.

There are those who recommend never eating below your basal metabolic rate, which is what your body would burn if you did not move all day long, like were in a coma.  The site I use for that is http://www.bmi-calculator.net/bmr-calculator/  . I found some success by staying above that number.

I took a look at your profile, and you mentioned that you try to limit to 1000 calories. Even at 1100 you are probably not eating enough, especially if you are walking 2 miles a day.

I would up your calories a little bit, as scary as that may sound, and keep doing everything else you are doing.

Also, the closer you get to your goal weight, the slower your body will lose weight. So, just hang in there and don't get discouraged.

Walking in the evening shouldn't have made too much of a difference, in my opinion.

OK so I went to that site and it says 1486 calories. So that is how many calories I burn just being still all day? Hummm...so the 1100 calories I each each day is not enough?  I will admit I do add calories every now and then with the occasional "taste test" of my daughters food! That's why I try to eat a little less during my meals.  Why is there such a big difference in what CC is saying and the BMR-calculator? That's like almost a 300 calorie difference. I just worry that if I eat that much each day I will start to gain again.

I agree with the comments about eating more. Your body has gotten used to it's routine and is now adjusted to you losing weight. Another option for you if you are scared to eat more is to change how you consume your calories. Most people comsume the most calories at dinner. Your body is probably used to this and you need to consume most of your calories during lunch for instance and have small dinners. This will cause your body to switch gears and you will start losing weight again. Hope that helps

My calorie recommendation for cc is 1250 per day, my bmr is 1682, cc burn rate 2020.  I try to eat somewhere in between cc recommendation and my bmr, I try to stay closer to the cc recommendation depending on amount of exercise each day.  I have steadly lost between 1-2 pounds per week as recommended by cc.  I believe cc adds about 300 cal to burn rate because most people don't just lay about all day.  Everyone still showers, dresses, brush teeth, eat, etc as part of daily living and they adjust for these activities, but just my opinion.  As for worrying about gaining if you increase your calories, remember that as long as you do not go under the recommended 1200 cal per day for women and eat less than you burn per day causing a daily calorie deficit you will lose the weight slowly as recommended for long term benifits.
