weight loss slowing down

Quote  |  Reply

hey guys :)

just a quick question about continous weight loss, i realise my metabolism will try to balance out as much as possible and therefore the weight loss will slow down , with me it seems to have slowed down to about 1 to 1.5 pounds a week... will it keep slowing down and if so alot more than that ?

it just seems abit demotivating that even though im staying on this diet and doing my exercise i'll keep loosing less and less. my calorie consumption is allrdy pretty much as low as it can be (1200) so i wont rly be able to do much more about that....

thx for any info in advance :)

Unfortunately, the closer you get to your goal weight, the slower the weight loss will be. That's because your body doesn't want to give up the fat that it views as 'necessary'. Sometimes when we reach the healthy range, even if it's not our 'goal weight', our body will just stop losing all together, and we need to accept that new number rather than resort to extreme measures to lose weight.

1-2 pounds is considered the norm for healthy weight loss, and it'll be closer to 1 pound for those who are lower in weight--I don't know your weight/height/BMI/age, etc., so it's hard to say in your case. But unfortunately, it's very unrealistic that you will steadily lose 2 pounds a week until you reach goal weight.

My suggestion to you is to throw a few high calorie days in there. Cutting calories steadily down to 1200 and staying at that level every day will slow your metabolism. Again, without your stats it's hard to give good suggestions, but maybe four days at 1200, two days at 1500 and one day at 2000 would be good to help speed things along.

u might also growing mussles.

since mussles weighs more that fat, the resultant rate of weight loss looks less

It will slow down more.  As you lose weight, you'll burn less automatically and since you're already at 1200 calories, your deficit will decrease.

You're likely to lose about 1% of your body-weight safely per week.  The smaller you are, the less you lose.    If you've been scraping along on 1200 for a long time (longer than 4 or 5 weeks) deliberately organise a day at your maintenance calorie intake soon... 1900-2000 typically.  This is an excellent way to prevent your body from getting too used to very low calories and should keep your weigh-loss ticking along nicely.

Another idea... regular exercise.  If you can do 1/2 an hour of exercise every day you would probably find you could increase your intake to 1400-1500 and lose weight just as quickly.  That could give you more scope.

thx for the responses guys :)

after abit more research yesterday about starvation mode and too little calories and all the hassle ive decided im upping my calorie intake to about 1300 to 1400 a day and on the days i exercise to about 1600 because ive figured out im having way too big a deficit , particularly on the days i exercise. its been abit over 6 weeks now and i rly dont want keep scraping along the edge like this , and i certainly dont want to reach my goal and have a rly hard time maintaining that.

@ severus: i've been doing strenght training and cardio 4 times a week so yeah hopefully some muscles have been building up too :)!!

@ gi jane i allrdy exercise for 2 h 4 times a week :) but i deffinately like your idea about boosting my calories to a one-time high once in a while to boost my metabolism, will be doing this on wednesday since its my day off and a lovely little food day is just what i need :)!!!

thx again guys :) have a great day!
