Weight Loss & Sugar Intake
Ok, so I have posted once before and never got any answer, just more people saying they were wondering the same thing!
When I log my meals and it gives me an "A" Grade, does that mean that everything is within my limits? I'm trying to figure out what my max sugar intake should be in a day... Does anybody know how to find that out? When I get an A grade, does that mean that I'm within my means on that too?
Trying to lose weight and learn how that is best done! ![]()
I did find this, which was helpful, but I wanted to know about the grade we get on here!

Thanks!
The nutrition grade seems to be based on vitamins and minerals, not the combination of fat, carb & protein - the help article is here: http://caloriecount.about.com/cc/help.php?id= 66
Eat lots of veggies, you get a good grade.
For weight loss, you should try to limit your sugar intake - eat fruits for a sweet treat rather than stuff with sugar added. I usually aim for my little graph to look like half or slightly less than half carbs, then 1/4 fat, 1/4 protein.
Good question. I have wondered also. The link was helpful
I have info on grams of carbs. I met with my nutritionist yesterday and she said that most healthy, normal weight adults should get at least 250 to 300 grams of carbs per day (that includes all sources - whole grains, fruits and veggies as well as sugar and corn syrup).
She also said that diabetics have to hold it closer to 150 grams, but that for those that might be slightly insulin resistant (like most overweight people in the U.S., especially women) the range of 150 to 200 grams was not a bad idea for 80 percent of the time - with the other 20 closer to 300. Basically, allowing a "treat" now and then - even if it's just a second banana.
I guess we all have to find the range that is best for us - kind of a South Beach approach.
Good luck!
I've always found I feel better and lose weight better when I limit my sugar intake. If your body doesn't burn all of the sugar that you eat, it'll store it as fat.
Thanks for your responses! This was helpful. I've lost 80 pounds, so I know I've been doing something right... but I know these last 30 that I need to lose will be much more tough and I'll have to pay attention to all the little things like this!
Thanks again for your suggestions and help!
Is my sodium intake too low?
You have nothing to worry about because sodium deficiency is extremely rare. In fact, there is not even an recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA... Read more
