Weight loss without using legs?
I've always been in pretty good athletic condition finishing high school in 2007 at 5'11 175lbs after playing both soccer and lacrosse...but this past summer I was in a rugby tournament (182lbs at the time) and broke my ankle very badly. I won't be able to run or play sports really until this upcoming February 2009. I put on 24lbs in the first 3 months of my inactivity, getting up to about 206lbs. The past 3-4 weeks I've finally started to go to the gym and lift upper body mostly. Like I said, I won't be able to do much on my leg still for the next 3 months. I was wondering if anyone knew any good cardio or weightlifting (just non-leg using) exercises that could help me drop some poundage. Thanks all.
swimming was how my jogging-addicted sister got exercise when she tore a ligament in her knee. ask a physical therapist, but swimming is really easy on your joints and is great cardio.
Push ups done with your knees or thighs on an exercise ball. Situps down with your legs on the ball. You can try holding a variety of plank positions for periods of 30 seconds, increasing as you get better. Pull ups, much easier if you have a negative pull up machine at your gym.
If you go to a rehab gym they'll probably have a hand crank stationary 'bike' that you could use.
Fork put-downs and table-push-aways don't require the use of your legs and are great for weightloss.
You should probably just not be lazy Mr. 20%
