I put the weight I have lost in a backpack and carried it around.
I like seeing the scale go down but I was curious how much 20 pounds really is, not just the number. So I got five 2 liter waterbottles (4 pounds each) and put them in a backpack and carried it around for a few minutes. OMG! I can't believe I lost that already and I have 45 more to lose. It did really motivate me because it helped me to understand even better that I am really much too heavy and that I will feel much better without all that extra weight to carry around. Give it a try!
That's a great idea!
that's brilliant! i just did it with all the weight that i wanted to lose when i started... holy cow! it's amazing that we get so used to that extra "stuff" hanging on. definitely a GREAT motivation to get moving again.
I do a similar technique (I think I heard it from Women's Health). I do bicep curls and triceps extensions using weights that correspond to the weight I've lost. Great exercise and great motivation! I'm only on 25 lbs right now so it's fairly easy, but once I hit say 30 lbs I will definitely try your idea. Sounds great!
Isn't it a great feeling! Just when I had finished losing 45 lbs (I have lost 57 as of now), I went on a trip and the airline weighed the bag I was checking .. and it was 45 lbs. Every time I carried that bag (OK, wheeled) all I could think about the whole trip was ...I can't believe I used to carry this around attached to my body. Serious motivation, I didn't gain an ounce on that vacation. Congratulations!!!
I've seen that done on several weight loss television programs. And I have just never even wanted to try. I've lost 50 pounds. 15 more to go (which is proving to be extremely difficult, suddenly). But When I think about carrying 50 pounds around I just think about all the times I bought 50 pound bags of dog food. Just putting one of those in a shopping cart is a monstrous task. Let alone carrying it from my truck in the driveway into my house 20 feet away. It kills me! Luckily for me I don't have a large dog I have to buy 50 pounds bags of food for anymore!
That donating idea is really great! I'll definitely make it a point to do the same. Good suggestion!
you know, after losing about 60 lbs, i am not sure i would be able tzo carry a bag that heavy for so long. i actually thought about having a big bag filled with things and carrying that 60 lbs, and then went "oh and i used to carry that all the time... poor body"
