weight platau-I'm stuck!

Quote  |  Reply

Hi, kinda new. Been reading lots of posts, just kinda hanging around in the backround for awhile. Decided to finally join in!

Just a little back round, started my weight loss 4 yrs ago, lost a total of 60 lbs. Been maintaining (not on purpose) since then.

My issue is that I'm stuck at my weight of 145-150 (it fluctuates that much) on 5'6" frame. I exercise 6 days a week, with most days being at the gym about 1-1/2 hours. Half on cardio half on weights. I'm trying to get to 125ish. I find that the only way I'm able to loose any weight is if I only consume around 1200-1300 cals. a day. This only leaves me very hungry throughout the day and I find that the longer I try to stick to that amount, the more often I cheat and eat more and whatever little bit I did loose comes right back. I need a little help to break past this VERY long term barrier I'm having, but not really sure what to do.

Any suggestions?

1200 calories is too low for you, especially given your level of activity. If you've been doing this for a while, that could explain your problems with losing more weight.

My main suggestion - start eating more - calculate what maintenance should be for your size and activity level (try www.phord.com/cc) and eat that much for a while. It might mean that you gain some before your metabolism can recover. But that's better than continuing to under-eat.

I, too, had been consuming about 1200 calories a day, then I hit a plateau a few weeks ago.  Several of the folks here suggested I up my calories, so I did.  I increased by 200-300 a day.  It took about a week, but the pounds started coming off again.  I know it seems odd that that would happen, but it really did.  Maybe give it a try.  I'm still eating between 1300-1400 calories a day, and am losing a pound or two a week.  It varies.  Good luck to you!

I checked out the calculator site link, thank you, I found it easy to use and filled with easy to use and understand info. gpay10
