Quote  |  Reply

I don't really get this. I'm 14, 106, and am 5' 2". So Last week I weighed the same and a waist size of 27 inches. This week My weight is a little less but my waist size is almost 28 inches. why? Any reasons for this?

you may just be bloated. i know when my tiny male best friend eats you can see his belly grow right after

oh, ok... are there other reasons? or is this the only one?

Did you eat before measuring? Are you sure you measured in the exact same spot? Are you using a different measuring tape? Have you recently eaten salt that would cause a bit of bloating around your midsection? Or, if you're crash dieting, you could be losing muscle instead of fat, which could make you weigh less even though your measurements are increasing.

Ok, this is what happened. I ate breakfast, then exercised, then started to drink a protein shake, then measured. I used the same measuring tape as I always do. I mark the spot with a sharpie every week so I know if I lose, or gained weight... It was about half an inch bigger then I did two weeks ago. (I forgot to measure last week.)

Maybe I gained muscle? Or maybe because I just exercised? I did have to go to the bathroom about 20 minutes after the measurement. (#1)

It's probably because you were eating and drinking before your measurement. If you want the most accurate measure, you should take it in the morning before eating.

well the other measurements weren't in the morning either...

Whatever, I guess I won't worry about it...

I'll go for the muscle options:

1. You've built muscle, but haven't lost fat in the same are yet, which equals an increase in size

2. If you're doing strength training, muscles can hold water while they heal (and swell in general), which can cause an increase in size.

I never thought of the muscles swelling. That may be it because I just measured again and it is right back to where it used to be. a little over 27" on the waist.

This is out of the blue something that came to my mind that I'm kind of proud of.

Have you ever tried to grasp your thigh right in the middle, bare skin, with both your hands? Like with your pinkies touching each other and your thumbs touching each other? I used to not be able to do that by like 2 inches. Now I can! Barely, but I can!

That pretty much confirmed to me that I lost weight.lol

And my youth group leader said something to me like, "You look like you lost some weight man!" I didn't know what to say, I just kind of laughed.

I don't understand it.  I've lost about 45 lbs so far, and my waist has gone from 32" to nearly 36"--how?  It's a mystery.  I think it's just natural changes in body composition that go along with losing weight and gaining muscle.  I wouldn't sweat it.

I just have to say, (I know I sound like a Mom, but I am not actually old) why are you stressing about your waist size? You are a growing 14 year old boy.  Join a sports team or find some exercise activity you like, avoid fast food, and let nature take care of the rest for a while.

I was just about to say, um excuse me I'm 15. But then realized I put down 14.lol I turned 15 about a week ago so I'm not really used to saying I'm 15 yet... Anyway, I'm 15...

I am on sports teams and I do have an exercise routine that I like, I avoid fast food, and I let nature take care of the rest I was just confused. Just wondering why this would happen and found out. I was just curious.

thats great, i loved playing sports and still coach high school track. i think sports is one of the best things you can do to be healthy.

my waist changes by like 2 inches a day based on what i ate, drank, etc, i doubt there is anything to it more than what's in your tummy
