Weighted hula hoop
Hi out there! I have a question.
I borrowed a weighted hula hoop, so I'm not looking for advice on what to buy. What I am wondering is why it's necessary for this hula hoop to have lumps protruding towards my body. The person I borrowed it from said that it came w/ instructions saying that it could (& did) cause BRUISING the first few uses. It's so painful! I see they come w/o the lumps too, and I'm wondering what the point of this would be.
Anyone?
(Here's a link to a pic that probably includes the one I have - not sure.)
Well, just by looking at the site you link to, and their descriptions, it seems that the "unique wavy design" is to make it easier for beginners.
My friend just bought one without the bumps. She still looks like she was thrown from a moving vehicle.
I have the same hoop! I bought it a few years ago and my understanding was that these "waves" are for massaging your mid section. Massage is well-known for it's anti-cellulite capabilities and when you are spining your hoola you are getting the anti-cellulite massage at the same time. If you look at your mid-section after you are done, your skin is as red as after the massage.
I remember it was quite painful though; I used to wrap the towel around my waiste so I could spin it. But boy it worked! After about 2 weeks I stopped having bruises and was able to do it on bare skin (I also used to put anti-cellulite gel on my belly as well). I got pretty good results.
Thanks for your responses! I like the idea of the anti-cellulite massage... though I never had such a painful massage! This is encouraging - I'm going to try the towel thing & work through the pain...
... until I look like I was thrown from a moving vehicle?
:)
I have this same hoop. I have had it for well over a year and love every minute of it. I even convinced my best friend, my co-worker, future mother-in-law and sister-in-law to purchase. They love it as well. Sis-in-law is a teacher and she convinced all of her co-workers to buy. Man, I should have been getting a kick back for that!! ha. Well, I hope you like it, and I hope it worked for you as it did for us:)
