weird ache in legs

Quote  |  Reply

Okay, I've not been exercising due to a back injury.  I'm on meds, but I have taken them before, and this time I've been on them for about a week (as needed), so I don't think they have anything to with the problem.

Okay so what's the problem you ask?  I woke up this morning, and I have a weird ache in my buttocks, legs and calves.  Sort of feels like lactic acid build up, because it's a diffuse, burning and yet sort of tingly ache.  Been going on since I woke up at 7am and nothing seems to help or effect it.  I took a muscle relaxer at 8:30ish but it hasn't helped either.  Walking around doesn't seem to help either.

Anyone have any ideas?  Obviously if it continues I will have to see the doc, but I'm just wondering if anyone has any ideas or advice?  It's not bad pain, just annoying and distracting.

Nerve pinch, maybe? Referred pain from trigger points? Though that should have been eased by the muscle relaxers so I'm kinda lost too. Be interesting to see what you find out, actually ;)

It doesn't feel much of anything like a nerve pinch.

I've had those with the neck and I've had the numbness and "pins and needles" type of tingling in my hands and arms along with some weakness.  This doesn't feel like that.

It's really a weird feeling, and it doesn't seem to be changing (better or worse) as the day goes on.  Just sort of constant.... weird.

Are you just sore?  Try stretching, or some OTC anti-inflammatory.

I have no reason to be sore.  I've done nothing but veg on the couch and walk around at the store a bit.  The back thing has kept me down. I'm on presription anti-inflammatories for it, as well as muscle relaxers and pain killers.

However, it has mostly gone away.  Just a bit left in the back of my thighs and that seems to be subsiding too.

Strange... I have no idea whatsoever as to the cause of it.

i'm a card maker, and i sit on the floor to do it with my legs to one side. i get bad pains sometimes because of it.

if you have been tucked up on the sofa for any legnth of time- it could be that??

just a thought X

When I stop exercising for a week or two I get that too.  It's just kind of achy and for my I know it's related to not exercising.  It happens every time I stop exercising for an extended period.  Like in July my 2 yo had pneumonia and there was no time for exercise for about 3 weeks and that 3rd week my legs were super sore, but as soon as I got back into my regular exercise routine it went away.  Nothing other than getting back to regular exercise or not excercising at all for about 4 weeks makes it go away.  I kind of worry it is the feeling of muscle atrophy actually.

It is VERY common for back pain to radiate down the sciatic nerve through the buttocks into the leg...usually oine side only.

So leg pain after back pain points directly to a nerve root pinch where the root comes out of the spine.

Yes, my daughter has the pain radiating down her leg from a pinched sciatic nerve. In fact for her it is pretty constant and she will need surgery if/when her medical insurance ever approves it.

But what I was feeling yesterday was not like that... not a sharp shooting pain down the back of the leg.  This was a diffuse achy, almost itchy/tingly feeling.  As if I had been exercising hard and then sat down without cooling down. And it was both legs...

Anyway, it's gone today and the back is feeling much better, (actually it has only been feeling "tweaked for the last 3-4 days).  No more muscle spasms in the lower back at this time.

Go to the Dr if it comes back.  It could be a blood clot and should be checked out by a professional!

Maybe you have already visited this site, but it sure has a lot of information about leg pain.

Well, a month later and it's come back.  This time it's lasted 2 days and also involves my arms -- biceps and triceps.  Advil doesn't help and neither do muscle relaxers.

Also have a headache and general tiredness with it.

Ah well, I made a Dr.s appt for tomorrow so maybe he can tell me what it is.

Okay, over a week now.  When I saw the doc last week, he thought it was a virus.  Saw him again yesterday and after talking with him,  decided to stop taking my cholesterol meds for a couple of weeks to see if they are the culprit.

Apparently statins can cause muscle problems.  And I've been killing myself with the weights, and getting stronger.  Wonder how much I could be lifting if I hadn't been taking this stuff?

If the muscle problems don't go away in a few weeks the doc will do some blood work, but he does think the meds are the issue.

I hope going off the meds works, karozel.
