Okay, this is an odd observation.
When I get up in the morning before I've eaten anything, I'm much happier with how my body looks profile-wise in that dreadful mirror than at when I go to bed at night, regardless of how healthy I have eaten. I truly believe that my stomach starts visibly bulging with every bottle of water or leaf of lettuce or banana I put in it. I would understand this phenomenon if I was a tiny stick of a girl, but I'm at the higher end of my healthy BMI at 135 for 5'3" and have enough padding that, logically at least, I wouldn't think this would happen.
Does anyone else feel like they at least look "fatter" at the end of the day than at the beginning? Can you explain this? Or suggest ways to fix it (if that's possible)?
Don't worry -- it's natural. I'm substantially larger than you (5'11" and 230), but I know that I generally lose around 2 pounds while sleeping. It's all water weight, basically -- a certain amount of perspiring overnight, urinating in the morning, and that's a couple pounds right there. When you wake up, your body is basically as dry -- and therefore as light -- as you're going to be all day. But it's not real body mass, just water, so don't worry.
(Have you tried weighing yourself at night and again in the morning?)
For me, I found out the more sodium I had in my diet in one day is why I looked ''fatter'' before bed time. When I ate practically fruits, salad (w/ chicken), vegetables in one day I looked almost the same as I did in the morning by the end of the day.
So I assume its probably all that sodium we have throughout the day that makes us look bloated at night. Then when morning comes, its all gone and we bounce back.
I *almost* like how I look when I wake up and look at my profile in the mirror in the morning! But even 20 minutes later when I've eaten, I can't stand my stomach.
Perhaps it isl ike orientalcircus says, that it is the sodium. I should lay off of that a little bit - or make sure I'm drinking enough water to keep my sodium at bay.
Tomorrow is a new day :)
Also we tend to be taller in the morning than at night - our spines stretch out while we sleep and by evening contract from standing and sitting all day. Posture can play a huge role in this, especially if you have weak ab muscles. If you have poor posture, your belly will stick out as your spine is sagging forward. Doing sit-ups may not really help, because you can build up bulky ab muscles. Better to try something like yoga or pilates for all-over lengthing/flexibility.
