Weird Hips

Quote  |  Reply

Hey everyone.

Before I jump into my question let me explain myself.

I'm almost 5'9", 132 pounds and typically a size 4 or a 27.

I have a generally small waist and larger hips (especially because I have a smaller frame by nature)

However, my hips protrude and then curve back in, then my thighs go back out.

Is this normal? Does anyone else suffer from this self-confidence issue?

Wow! I never knew that anyone else suffered from this too! I've been to the doctor about it and he said there's nothing to worry about- there's nothing medically wrong with it.

I know it irritates me though! Buying pants can be tough some times, but I've gotten used to it. It's so neat knowing that it's not just me with the weird hips! It makes us special though, lol. :]

woah, i have the same problem!
it make's buying pants seem impossible, and dont even get me started on trying to find shorts!
I dont really see them as something to be self-conscious about, im just glad i have hips :] the rest of my family dosent have any hip curve

i can't belive it!I was so confused about this phenomen as well.one of the solutions that helped me a little,is to exersice the area around hips.thy it,it should soften the curve a little.

I've noticed something similar on my own body, but it's probably not the same as yours...and I think it has to do with where your iliac crest (hip bone) and top of your femur fall in relation to the fat and muscle on your hips.  I don't know really, that's just my guess.

omg! i honestly thought i was alone on this one. i have always hated my hips. i look weird in tighter clothing so i always tend to buy loose clothing and sizes that r too big. im hoping if i lose 10 pounds then my hips will go down in size.

i have a teeny waist, huge hips, then minus my thighs, my legs are toned from running. i look so awkward. one of my hips is larger than the other too, i swear! buying shirts is a nightmare because either shirts are too tight on my hips or i have to wear billowy tops to cover them but my figure gets lost. it's a nightmare.

Hey guys.

I hate to say it, but i've just learnt about this for my uni course, and the reason we all have this issue is because of our bone shape.

People's bone shapes are all slightly different, just like our heights are different, and hence some people's hips are more prominent than others.

Reducing weight will infact reduce the "love handle" type of look, but ultimately, we are all blessed with a nice curvy frame that can certainly look extremely hot (especially minus the love handles concept!)

I agree though. buying clothes to fit sucks.

ah and i forgot to mention - the part of your thighs that appears to stick out is called the "greater trochanter" and its simply part of your femur so it generally won't go away!

and it sticks out more in girls because our hips make our femurs (thigh bone) sit at a different angle to those in boys.

HENCE. we need to learn to love these body shapes!

yeh i have this, Its called a violin deformity. It is pretty much a violin shape I guess.  I would love to have 'one' hip!!

im a size 6 to 8  AUS, and no matter if you lose weight it doesnt go.  Really the only thing you can do to change it is liposculpture! which is $4500 AUS to $5000.. the smaller you are the more expensive it is! so its a rip off!

my mum and grandma have it aswell! but I guess its a unique thing we have to learn to love! though it does suck having a permanent muffin top!!!

It could always be worse, I'm a male and I have this problem.

My hips shouldn't protrude like this in the first place! I'm supposed to be a "V", not an hourglass! And now a violin too! I had hoped this would go away, though my suspicions grew as the dozens of pounds showed no sign of relief, and now it is still there at a perfectly healthy weight. And trying to buy fitting pants in the men's department is just a joke, typically nothing even resembles a comfortable fit.

Oh woe.

i think im the same...or something similar at least! my hip bones jutt out, and then it goes in and i have a weird lump thing on the side of my thighs.

wtf.

Heh, I have this problem too! AND I'm male (you're not alone, ibez Wink). Buying pants is such a problem for me, because my waist size and thigh size aren't proportional. So if I get a pair of pants that fit my thighs well, the waist is HUUUGE! People tell me all the time I'm shaped almost exactly like my mom, whose figure is about as womanly as can be O_o

yep yep! all jeans, underwear and bathers sit in the indent..so it looks like we are wearing something a few sizes to small! gah. cant wear anything tight either :( Im as shapely at a tube of toothpaste! lol.

wow I have this too.  I am so relieved i'm not the only one!

do you mean love handles?
because it could just be that the way the fat is situated on your hips/thighs that make it like that.
I have the same thing, but it's just because of fat. If i pinch the fat away it looks normal.
Losing fat on your hips/thighs is hard, and it's usually the last place you lose, so it makes it more obvious.

pastmistakes; its not lovehandles! I have the same thing as the people above; you can feel the bone there? It is genuinely quite odd - my hipbone juts out, then at the joint it goes back in, then at the thigh it goes out again, and you can feel the bones are shaped like that!

Not quite right, but you get the idea!

Ohh, I get you. I can still feel my hip bone... but most of my fat is on the back of my hips which make it appear more round than it is.

Yeah, I can feel my hip bone too. Most of the fat gets store in a little patch right above the hip bones, making the area from waist to hip seem a bit less 'sharp'. But the inner thigh fat is what really gives me my 'rounded' appearance.

yep, I've got it too.
and I absolutely hate it
oh well, at least we're not alone

Strange! But I doubt it's ugly or unattractive. My legs go in a little bit under my hip-bone but not really noticably. In fact, it's really the top of my thigh, not my hip...People are people and people are different, right?
