Weird ridges in fingernails??
Okay, so I wasn't going to ask this and I tried looking it up on the web. But I have these weird ridges in some of my fingernails???
I saw on the net that it said a vitamin deficiency or arsenic poisoning. Go figure!!!
Well, if anyone could help me out and let me know which vitamin or maybe I should just make an appointment for the doctor and see what he has to say???
Thanks!! Prissy![]()
Are you using a buffer or anything on your nails? That does it for me, because the new nail that grows in is thicker than the part you buffed. You should be able to figure out if you have a vitamin deficiency from the daily analysis function on here, it shows how much of each vitamin you get daily. I wouldn't make a doctor's appt unless you have other symptoms.
Do you bite your nails or cuticles? That can do it too...
Oh I've always had weird ridges on all my nails. I wish I knew what they meant as well :/
Hi there! Well Im an estheticain on the weekends, and when i went to school this is what we learned : (removing this DIRECTLY from my text book Milady's Standard of Cosmetology)
Corrugations: caused by uneven growth of the nails, usually the result of injury or illness. Carefully buff the nails and apply a nail filler.
Furrows : the can run either lengthwas or across the nail. these are usually the result from illness, injury or pregnancy, or even stress. Some Ridges are Normal is adult Nails and increase with age. However some Ridges can be caused by psoriasis, poor circulation and frostbite.
I hope this helps you, this was all that was said about ridges. I have slight ridges in my nails too, i just buff it out and apply a thick base coat before the polish.
Hey, I used to have ridges on my nails too. Come to find out, it was because of mal-nutrition.
Make sure that you are not taking any kind of supplements or pills that would cause you to deplete nutrients (or anything else!). If you are not, than I would most likely say it's due to vitamin deficiency. Star with a multi-vitamin!
Hope that helps!
I get both bumps from filing and ridges too... the ridges are small and almost unnoticeable... I have seen others with much worse (mainly guys and old ladies), but I really think fingernails are a direct indicator of your health so it bugs me! lol! But I know I take in a ton of vitamins and minerals (I take 2 omega 3-6-9 blend pills, 1 calcium +d, 1 multivitamin, 1 green tea complex, 1 glucosamine/chondritan) and my protein shake that I have daily has 100% values as well so I know I get my fair amount... can't figure it out.... genetics?
Thanks ya'll!!
Yea, I haven't had fake nails since my wedding and that was soooo long ago (1994). I really don't file my nails and no nail biting. I do polish them every now and then. I don't know if maybe after my pregnancies, one in 1995 and one in 2000.
I'm not so good with taking my vitamins on a daily basis. I try. When I do remember, I take a multivitamin, a glucosamine/ chondritan, a calcium, CLA, omega 3 complex, and some sort of B complex. Yea, its alot!!! Oh, and I do drink a lot of protein drinks. I often substitute them as meals due to a busy work schedule.
Maybe it's just genetics. I just got worried about them because my hubby made a comment. And one nail looks like it might be getting worse.
Thanks!! Prissy![]()
