Welcome Couch to 5kers Group(now closed)

As Jenn summed it up so nicely........here it is............

We will be doing Couch to 5K, starting August 4th, ending the week of October 6th. We will be doing the first week TWICE to help us get started, thereby making a nine week program last ten weeks.

We will be weighing in on Mondays, with an optional weigh-in on Friday for those who want to.

Everyone will be doing the platform of their choice (elliptical, treadmill, street) and will choose their own days on which to run, due to varying schedules."

Here is the group...

Thank you for including me. I am a little ahead of the game on this one though. I have struggled with my weight for what seems to be forever. I have a friend who says "You have been on a diet as long as I have known you and you always look the same!?!" (We have been friends for 15 years). Well I am finally doing something since joining CC I think in April and believe it or not my friend has finally seen a difference. I am already on track to do my very first 5k on 8/16. If this is OK I would still like to be in your group.

I am 32 - no children - married. I am a Commercial Construction Headhunter - what do those Construction husbands do exactly?? :)

I have never been a runner because I have been 'blessed' with curves, I am a 36ddd. You can imagine exercising is difficult with that. I am determined not to let that deter me.  I have been exercising in the gym about 5 days a week since the end of April.

GW will take 155 but would love 145/140

I am fortunate to build muscle fast and I am very evenly proportion - if I was alive in Marilyn Monroe's day I would be one HOT chick! I really want to be healthier for one and for two we want children and I do not want to be a 200+# pregnant girl and I want to be healthy for my unborn child. We have been trying for years off and on with the intensity of it. We have been intense lately and I am frustrated so this 5k is exactly what I need.

I am up to jogging 2.25 miles without stopping on a treadmill at 4.5 mph. I went outside last night and jogged/ walked 4 miles in a little over 55 minutes. I have a friend who is a runner who is helping me. Like I said if you will accept me based upon where I am on - I would love it - but understand if you would rather  not.

Have a great day! It's Friday Eve

Yah! Thanks for including me.

I'm 36 and single. My weight has taken away my confidence. I haven't really lost weight since I started July 1 but I have lost two inches around my belly, so that's what matters.

GW 185 (then we'll see from there)

I've got the couch to 5k mp3s downloaded and I'm ready to go!

Edit: goal weight by Christmas is 185 lbs. Then will want to get lower. If I make it too big too big of a task and won't get there.

Did you make a mistake? Is your GW really 185?

So I started early. I couldn't wait, I was so excited. I done my 2nd run for week 1 yesterday and it felt so good. The podcast really helped. I didn't really like the music but having someone there encouraging me to keep going was nice. I'm still taking it two weeks at a time though.

Welcome amk! I think it is great that we will have someone a little ahead of the curve to give us some guidance and help us learn from what you have already gone through. Might I ask about what brand of bra you use? I am a 38DD, and the girls do get jostled so...  (Also, I think jinx meant that they are at 221 right now, not 121. At least that's what their ticker shows.)

bluemiss, I know what you mean about the music. I didn't like that second song with the guy whining about how he never wants me to call him ever again. But, what are you gonna do!

Well, I know this is a late conv post, but I'm not so much worried about running, because this is something I already do.. I love doing it. I'm all about will this really help with more weight loss. I'm still going to do my weights twice a week..  I love my weights, but I am going to have to cut back on the bar curls, and relax a little more and work on the lower half a lot more.. Whos with me on that!

I've been cheap shopping. Into the going green things a little. What every they want to call it, but I do love to shop, and I find time to take $10.00 and make a deal out of something. I got these two jackets that I love to death for 3.99, and I had to walk out of the second hand store with them.. I love the pcs, and I'm one who don't let a deal just get picked off by the next girl in line.. So I got them.. Girl friend told me cute find, and how she can't believe I shop that cheap. I mean I can get out of hand with the shopping, but come on.. A cheap deal is a good deal too.. I got them..

Now that I got the new/ old Items, I'm ready to get even more started. I just needed to put together a new look for my update pic after this "Couch to 5 is over." Not only that... That's my MOTIVATION. The tops will go good with anything.. Jeans, Dresses, Dress Pants, A cute Cami, Skirt.. You name it. I'm ready to go.. I've been working out and Friday is my last day of running my old program, and then.. I start off slow.

The thing of it is.. If, I'm already running 1-2-3- miles back and forward during the week, how should I do the couch to 5k. I think I'm going to start over.. I'm still in this, because I do want to do it with a group, and not feel so alone.

Tell me girls.. What do you think.. I down loaded the program, and I'm ready to do it.. But My bones are strong for longer runs. So what do I do. I mean.. I think everyone is scared like hell, and here I am confused on what should I do.

lynn...you can always do the program, and then if you feel like you need more, do a little more on the off days. I think the program calls for three days a week. I'm sure its a good idea anyway to do some sort of workout on the offdays. Is that what you were asking?

I am going to get my shoes TODAY. Ran out of time last time the babysitter was here and shes coming again today. So last chance for me to get anything done.

Edit****   How do you get those podcast? My husband got me an ipod shuffle for my birthday but it is still in the case. When you hook it up to the computer do you just go to that link that somebody provided above? and then magic happens? (ha ha to me its magic)

yeah corrected my post... must have been just a wish that my weight started with a 1 instead of a 2.

Not much of a typer obviously ;)

lulufit: you can get podcast from itunes or an even easier way is to go to http://www.ullreys.com/robert/Podcasts/page6/ page6.html

you can download as Mp3 directly from the site. There are other versions as well but this one has funky music.

**edit

Woo Hoo! Just had to know if I could do it. Jumped on the treadmill with week 1 podcast and did it! If someone 220lbs can do it, you can too. As an extra bonus, my scale showed I've lost a pound. Great start to the day! I feel very sweaty, but also very good.

Thanks for the post run. One pound, congrats to you.. Keep up the good work. I'm with you running had on Monday.

LuLu

Thanks for the infor. I'm going to just try to run long runs, and not worry about the distance, but focus on the time. Thanks again. I know I'm going to have to do more, so pushing my time will be the way I start off. How are we going to talk about this. Are we going to post a time sheet or mile sheet at the end of the week, with how many pounds we lost. I just wanted to know. I have so many questions.. Maybe I need to stop asking and watch how the board flow's during week one.. :) Now I feel like I'm getting a little scared here.. Not sure of what to do and how to do it. I do know how to run... I'm just confused on how to record my info on here..  I do have a walk/jog/run log, and I log miles and time in there.  ;P  I feel a little off.

So I tried the first day today, just to see.  although I have been going on walks/jogs for a few weeks now, after this mornings workout I feel sore! (That good kind of sore!)  so I am very excited, because I kind of thought the firt 2 weeks would be a slow down for me, but now I think it's gonna be great! The only thing is,I swear on the podcast he said "12 week program" ?? What?  On the itunes description it says 9. Does anyone know the deal?

LuLu- I got a shuffle for my B-day too!  I love it, and it is very easy to use!  Do you have itunes on your computer? If not, install it.  Then go to podcasts, or just search Couch to 5K.  Once you download it,(you can do all the weeks at once or one at a time. Robert Ullery is the one I am using) you just make a playlist of it, and plug in your shuffle, and it will prompt you the rest of the way! Good luck, I hope that made sense!

Ooo ... I'm excited and eager to get started.  I have an Ipod too which is the best exercise buddy I could ever hope for.  I will definitely be downloading the podcast like everyone else.  I think that I will do strength training and walking on the days that I don't do the C25k program.  What does everyone else have planned for their days off?  I have been terrible with my diet and exercise  lately mostly because of too much summer time relaxation and a few pounds have crept back on *sniffle sniffle*.  This is just what I need to get back into a good routine.  I have only been walking this week so I plan on officially starting the program on Sunday.  Good luck everyone and happy runnning/walking!

Hi Everyone,

Thanks for including me!  I just d/l the podcast to my shuffle so that I'm already next week.  I'm new to the running so I think it will be a bit of a struggle!  I have a lot of weight to lose and I'm hoping this will help it come off faster.

I'm 31, SAHM with two children.  The youngest one has special needs so needless to say I'm quite busy.  She is 4 years old and I have been neglecting myself for those 4 years and just concentrating on her.  Well, these last 4 years have taken a toll on me.  I have been so tired lately that I decided that I needed to concentrate on myself now and get healthy so that I can have more energy for the kids.

I was wondering what everyone is eating for some ideas.  If anyone has a plan that has been working for them and have seen results.  Also, what are the weight exercises that some are doing?

Good luck everyone!

Jenn

jenn, totally understand what you mean about neglecting yourself for your kids! It is time to put ourselves first! Well, for the length of the workout session, anyways :)

Thanks for the ipod info. I am going to try it this weekend. My babysitter cancelled on me this morning at the last minute, so I was not able to get my running shoes. I will have to try to find time this weekend.

I think I am going to try for a 1300-1400 calorie daily limit. I was doing 1200 and I lost 9.5 pretty quickly with not much exercising. Of course I quit keeping track and gained most of it back. I know when exercising regularly, the body needs more protein. Does 1300-1400 sound reasonable for a shortie?  I'll give it a shot I think.  I am already freaking out about this a little bit.

The stress is coming out in the form of high school dreams. You know, when its the end of the year and you just realized that you forogt to go to class and you got an F...etc., or my personal favorite....I can't find my darn locker.

As far as how we should work this.....I think we should post our personal progress after our workouts and if any support is needed on your off day, like with nutrition or stress, feel free to post that whenever. Log in your weight on Monday and a list of your personal goals for that week. Sound like a plan?

Thanks Tankerraid! I am so excited! I am very interested in these podcasts - I am going to have to look into that!

I have not found a bra yet. I have been wearing a regular bra with 2 stretchy sports bras over top - the stretchy ones are a size too small on purpose. It helps but they also cut my ribs - you can't win. I am doing some research - but they are so expensive!!

Update on my progress. My 5k is the 16th and I signed up and paid today. That makes it real to me. I went out tonight to run again - BUT I live in Florida and it has been raining non stop. So tonight I battled gnats and mosquitoes. Let's just say they defeated me. It was awful - I made it 2 miles and I had to stop 3x because they got in my eyes - on the way back I mostly walked because I was miserable. Tomorrow I am totally sticking to the treadmill inside - too many bugs!

Where exactly are you getting these podcasts and what are they called? Do they have music? I am out for about an hour at a time - do they have some that long?

This morning I am struggling. I do not want to work out at all! I just want to lay on the couch and be lazy! BUT I already took 2 days off this week! UUGGHH I'll let you know how that works out.

I did it! I went for 4 miles again this morning - luckily there were no bugs this morning BUT it was sooo hot! Already at 8:45am!?! I do love it here but come on! :)

I jogged the first 2 miles and only had to stop 2x - I did a 12m 30 sec mile!! Can you believe it. I made myself a deal since I did not want to go in the first place I pushed as hard as could for the first half and then I walked back. That only took me 35 minutes that is a 17m 30 sec mile - still not bad. I cannot wait to see how many calories I burned!

I love CC - this is so much fun!

Awesome! Congratulations on your 12.30 mile! It's funny how when we don't think we want to work out we often do some of our best exercise. At least that's how it works for me. I always tell myself, "I'll just do ten minutes, then if I want to stop, I will." After ten minutes my heartrate is up, and I'm starting to cruise, and I always end up working out. Hah.

lulu, sounds great! I have those dreams all the time, forgetting to go to class and only realizing it on the last day. I never put two and two together that those reflected stress in my life. DUH. I can be so incredibly slow sometimes.

Well, I have about two hours to clean the whole house before the baby is back from the park with his dad and has to go to take a nap, so I better skeedaddle. My cleaning is my workout today, so I've gotta start the sweat!

-Jenn, or, since we have two now, I'll just be tank. =)

Sun/Mon/Wed/Fri, that's my running plan.  I'm going for distance, and time. I'm going to keep logs on distance and time.. That's the only way I know how to keep up with my reported time, and hours per week, and each week after that I'm going to shoot for more. I've just been working on beating my old times and records. Not only that. I just like to see how fast I can get. You know... Something that's not new but, it sure does feel good to have it back. Speed! You know.. I have to ask this questions.

Just the other day I was running on the tread mill at the gym, and I was thinking to myself... WOW! Look at what I've done so far.. Do any of you have those moments? :)

Not yet, but people like you are what I find very inspiring on this site. When I drop about 30 lbs, I am going to be pretty impressed. For now I feel like I am army crawling through the mud!

tank, thats how I feel alot of the time too. And Lynn, those are the moments that I want to have. I can't wait to be able to say Wow, look what I've done so far! Even if I don't lose weight, I will be proud of myself for even trying this couch to 5k. Of course, I plan on losing weight. I would love to lose thirty pounds by christmas!
