Welcome Couch to 5kers Group(now closed)
As Jenn summed it up so nicely........here it is............
We will be doing Couch to 5K, starting August 4th, ending the week of October 6th. We will be doing the first week TWICE to help us get started, thereby making a nine week program last ten weeks.
We will be weighing in on Mondays, with an optional weigh-in on Friday for those who want to.
Everyone will be doing the platform of their choice (elliptical, treadmill, street) and will choose their own days on which to run, due to varying schedules."

I found the 8K thing on itunes. It is different from the Robert Ullery one, because it is just tones instead of someone telling you what to do. I downloaded the first week, but I haven't tried it yet. Here is a link , http://www.podrunner.com/intervals hopefully it works! Do you think you might want to do this too? It seems like the next logical step, but for some reason I am not feeling ready for it. I am going to try it next week, I think. Although I enjoyed just running without thinking about the time yesterday... we'll see.
Finally finished! What a great feeling. I still had to walk, though, probably because I am still kind of sick. I had to walk last time too, so I can see that I need to be able to run for 30 minutes before I can move on. I did it the first time so I know I can do it. I just wanted to finish though.
8k sounds like a good next step.....but first....I need to actually run 5k. I am going to work on that and then I'll move up to the 8k. I hope that we can all still post and encourage each other! The new c25k is the 5k to 8k! It has been a great help having all of your support. I am so proud of each and every one of you. Who would have thought we could make it this far! But we did and we kick ass. I think 8k is totally doable, even if it may take me another ten weeks!
I am also thinking about starting another challenge....something like Unwrap the fat, 20 pounds by Christmas. I think I'll post it later today in the games and challenges section if I'm feeling better. Sign up if your interested!
I have a super busy week and weekend. I don't think I'll get running in on Friday, so I know that I'll need to work up to running 30 minutes again. Kind of discouraging, but I'll get there! I just want to be able to do it already and do it every time.
Way to go lulu! I also need to actually get running 5k too, but would be great to run 8k.
Going to try and run again tonight. Goal is no walking! I've done it before and I know I can do it again.
I'm down to 201.6..........so close to breaking into the hundreds. CAN't wait!
Would love to lose 20lbs by Christmas, but that works out to 2lbs a week. So hard to do around the holidays. If I get 15lbs gone by then I'll be sooo happy. It's Thanksgiving this weekend, so I'll have to keep my goals in mind and not pig out too much.
So, how is it giong everyone? I am not running this friday because I have so many errands to do to get ready for the Baptism on Sunday. Everyone is going to come over my house after for dinner. I will be cleaning the whole house and doing all the laundry. That should burn some calories. I started yesterday with the cleaning and still have alot more to do! We are total clutter bugs. I have a feeling that I am going to have to start running and walking again before I can do thirty minutes!
Pumpkin, next week we are headed out to your area (Vermont). We are going to be visiting my sister who moved down this summer. Hope the weather is good! My kids want to see a bear and a moose. But most of all, they want a van with videos and to stay in a hotel with a pool. We are going to stop half way there because there is no way I am driving the whole way with all the kids in one trip. WAY too long. Have a great weekend.
Lulu - How fun that you're coming to Vermont! Right now the weather is A-MAZE-ING, so I hope it holds out for you. It's funny that you mention bear and moose - I have lived here 2.5 years and never seen either, but this weekend (after my 5K) we are going up to Island Pond, Vermont, which is supposed FULL of moose! My husband went up there a couple of weeks ago and since it's mating season, you are almost guaranteed to see a moose near dusk. I hope I see one or I will be very, very disappointed! I hope your trip is fun.
As far as running...guh. I can't believe I've made it to the end of the program, my celebratory 5K is in two days (which turns out to be 3.6 miles, not 3.1...boo!) and NOW I am burnt out on running! Today I had a crummy run. I was exhausted, my stomach hurt, I had no energy at all...I went SO much slower than I normally do. But gosh darn it, I ran! I ran for an HOUR, which works out to be just over 5 miles. Again, I just wanted to know I could finish this race on Sunday. 3.6 miles? Bring it on! I might finish last, but I'm gonna finish.
Pumpkin, I can't wait to see how your 5k goes. Should be easy for you after an hour of running.
So I'm glad finished the program, but I'm finding it hard to run for 30 minutes just for kicks. Might be a mental block. I think I might back up in the program a bit and try running it again with a faster pace. I'd still be running and burning calories and I might be a little bit more motivated to run. Thinking maybe week 4 or 5 then bring myself back up to the end again.
I'm now down to 201 even. I so want to lose 1.1 lbs next week! Will be hard with Thanksgiving and a wedding all in one weekend. Will try to be good, but ya gotta have fun too right?
Hey Guys,
I'm off to Yosemite for a week, so I'll check in with you guys when I get back. Hopefully I get lots of hiking in and come back feeling recharged and refreshed. It's been a long year!

Hi Everyone!
Have fun on your vacations tank and lulu!
I ran yesterday for about a 1/2 hour, and it was pretty good, but it is getting cold! Tomorrow is my 5K and I am a little nervous. I know I can do it but, it will be weird to run with all those other people! We'll see... I'll let you know how it goes! Good luck with yours pumpkin!
I did my first official 5K!! It went pretty well. It was really cold, and it was wierd to be getting ready with so many people. I haven't even run with one other person before! I was worried that I would have trouble running without headphones, but it was okay. The first half my friend ran with me, which was great because we talked, and it kept my mind off the long run. My time was 33:17 which I was proud of, I think I went a little faster than usual, but not much.
So this week I am running on tues. and thurs. and I think I am going to do 1 more week of just running myself, and next week I will start the 8K training. It is getting cold here so I need some warmer clothes, but I just got new shoes, and that feels great!
Hope you all had a great weekend!
Congrats Sarahjo! I am so glad you had a good run! You should be proud of your time - it's really good even without the fact that it was your very first 5K. Yay! You did great! What an accomplishment!
I agree that it's weird to run with so many other people. I had a really fun time running my 5K yesterday (the weather was PERFECT), but it does make it so much different to run with others. I was all worried about running into them, or thinking about if they were about to pass me or if I needed to pass them. BUT in the end I did my personal best time - actually LESS than 10 minutes per mile! - so maybe it was good to have other people there to "compete" with.
I hope you all are having a good running week. I don't know what I'll do this week..I don't have anything to "train" for right now! I'll probably run Wedneday and Friday like usual, though.
Congratulations on your 5k sarahjo and pumpkin! That is such a wonderful accomplishment. I hope you are super proud of yourselves because I am super proud of both of you! Way to go.
Great to hear the 5K's went well. I WILL do one in the next year. Between Thanksgiving and the wedding I ate too much, drank too much and just had an alll in all great weekend. Will jump on the scale tomorrow and see what the damage is.
How is everyone doing? I've had a crazy week - the symposium I have been planning for 6 months is TOMORROW! Even so, I ran 4 miles on Wednesday, and I am planning to run tomorrow morning first thing to "clear my head" before the nuttiness of the symposium begins...Ugh, wrangling speakers, moderating panels...I have a headache already thinking about all the last-minute fires I will have to put out.
Anyway, after my 5+K, I decided to take it a little easy with the running. I am going to focus on increasing my endurance/distance for a bit, then work on boosting my speed. I am also toying with the idea of running only 2 days a week to save my knees, but to be honest, I have come to enjoy the routine of running monday, wednesday, Friday (even if I don't necessarily enjoy the running itself).
As far a weight goes, I had a kind of scary drop in weight right after the 5K (I was probably dehydrated) but I am back to my consistent maintenance weight of 124.5 now.
Hope you're all enjoying your first week of POST C25K.
Hi Everyone!
This week has been crazy busy! I have been doing a ton of babysitting, and I am fighting a cold. I feel better today than I did yesterday, but I still think I could go for a nap!
As for running, I didn't time my runs this week but I would say that I ran between 25 and 30 minutes on Tuesday and on Thursday. I think that I am going to try a long one on Saturday, but it will depend on how well I am feeling.
My plan for next week is to start the G8way to 8K on Tuesday. I was wondering if any of you know how to use the podcast that is on itunes that is just tones that you can add to your own music? I have no idea how to do it, and I actually think that the G8way to 8K has specific music that changes tempo to help you speed up and slow down, but I would sure love to listen to my own tunes!
We'll see how it goes, I hope everyone else is doing well!
Good luck, Sarahjo. I haven't been running at all. So when my new treadmill arrives (should be this week or next) I am going to have to start over! I probably won't have to start at the very beginning, but I'll take it slow. Oh well. Guess its never a bad idea to start again. Back to basics!
I only ran once this week. I've been fighting an awful cold. Hard to get out of bed, so haven't been getting on the treadmill. Next week will be better....I hope.
Hi all -
Just started another week of post C25K running. I ran 4.25 miles tonight. Still looking for a way to make it more fun/exciting, though.
Jinxozzie - I hope you're feeling better. I always feel double crummy when I can't work out because I'm sick...no fun at all.
Sarahjo - good luck with your first gateway to 8K run tomorrow. Let me know how it is...maybe that's what I need to keep myself motivated, too.
Lulu - That's so exciting that you're getting a new treadmill! That would be so nice not have to go anywhere to run. I am already tired of getting up when it's still pitch black out and scraping off the car in my running clothes and winter coat. Eugh. And I'm sure you won't have to start over...but the good news is that since you can run whenever you want, you can take your time and go at your own pace. You have the rest of your life to excel at running.
Anyway, hope you are all having a good week so far. I'm just trying to catch up after the stupid symposium...and I am still waaaay behind. :(
I'm heading out to Pumpkin's side of town in Vermont this wednesday to visit my sister! Can't wait to see her. Kind of dreading the trip with the kids and the baby. Hope it goes smoothly. We are stopping half way at a hotel with a pool and then driving the rest the next day. I hope splitting the days like that will make it a much more pleasant journey for the kids.
Hi All!
So I decided to change my running plan for this week. Mostly because I am still getting over my cold, but I have a bit of a cough. Also, I decided that if I am going to start a new program I want to start on Sunday instead of Tuesday.
Pumpkin- Are you doing the post 5K program that is on coolrunning.com? I was looking at that yesterday and thought it might make more since for me to do that one for the winter. For right now I am doing 3 runs of 30 min. a week, and I think to start the 8K one I sould be doing a little more. I was thinking that I could wait until spring to really increase my miles, because the darkness in the morning makes it hard to add time to my run. Anyway, I was thinking that I sounds a little better for me.
I hope everyone else is doing well. What is everyone else doing for their runs? I admit that I am feeling kind of lost, but also happy because I am getting stronger on my 30 minute runs, so I guess that I should remember that 3 months ago I could hardly run at all! Right?
Finally mostly over my cold. Couldn't get up to running this week. Did have some long walks. I think I'm going to have to start way back in the program.
I'm still 201, but at least I haven't gained.
Good luck in your running.
**UPDATE**
WOOOO HOOOOO
Finally am in the one hundreds!!! 199.4
I'm also feeling better.... that nasty cold is finally gone. No more excuses for not getting my butt in gear.
Big thanks to all of you for all your support!!
