Welcome Couch to 5kers Group(now closed)
As Jenn summed it up so nicely........here it is............
We will be doing Couch to 5K, starting August 4th, ending the week of October 6th. We will be doing the first week TWICE to help us get started, thereby making a nine week program last ten weeks.
We will be weighing in on Mondays, with an optional weigh-in on Friday for those who want to.
Everyone will be doing the platform of their choice (elliptical, treadmill, street) and will choose their own days on which to run, due to varying schedules."

I was so happy that i was able to do the entire set. I even went out and bought new tennis shoes for the occasion!!!

I printed up this "check list" and put my first big checkmark in orange to stand out. I am so happy. I thought i would be soar today and i think yesterday i actually did more than 60 seconds of running at a time. the last interval i pushed it to 2 minutes. it felt AWESOME!
BTW... and maybe i missed it in the postings so forgive me, but how is everyone logging their workouts? i did the workout on the treadmill and it said i burned 100.8 calories for 20 minutes.
Thats a great check list. I am going to print it out and keep it right by the treadmill!
I warmed up on the treadmill and cooled down, so for a total of thirty minutes it said I only burned about 140 calories. It felt like it should have at least been, like, a thousand! It is amazing how easy it is to consume those calories, but yet so hard to burn them off.
My legs are a little sore today. We'll see how it goes tomorrow. I still am kind of dreading it, even though I did ok on the first set. I hear that it does get easier, so I am just counting on that!
Hi everyone! How ya'll doing? Well, so far things are going great. I wish I felt a little sore, but I'm not. I'm just mmm a little okay on the boarder line of great. I had to up my speed on the tread mill and give it a good strong 15 min run this morning. With that run I did 2.49 miles. I was giving the treadmill hell for a few mins.. I'm going to up the speed to 8 and give it hell one more time tonight, and see if I can't beat morning score. Yeah! I've made this couch to k run into a game. I have one more run tonight, and a 20 min weight program later on tonight.
Lulu, I do this, because the calorie counter's are really a guess. I use my walking mate counter, and I only log the calories it reports and I record my steps. I started doing that when a girl friend told me. She used it just to log her steps during the whole day. I was shocked at what I saw. I learned that my walking mate counter had me at a better calorie burn than my treadmill and ellpitical, I think it's better than the machine's counter. None of them are right. But your weight loss and measurements will tell the whole truth. :) Keep on pushing on.
To the rest of the walker's, jogger's, and runner's on here.. Keep on pushing on :)
Ok so I finished Week One Day 2 about a half hour ago. When I started I kept thinking I could just walk at least I'm out here. But I pushed and did the entire thing. Once I started jogging my first sixty seconds it wasn't bad. I was a little sore last night and when I started but nothing I couldn't get over. The biggest problem I had was with the blister that started Monday. I went and got a new pair of running shoes last night. I put a bandaid on the back of both of my ankles making sure to cover the blister but it wasn't enough. The bandaids didn't stick to the skin on my foot with the blister, now it is huge and sore. If that is my hardest thing to overcome during this I'll be greatful!
Elizajk, I just printed the checklist it is great. I'm going to mark next to each day I complete.
Keep up the great work ladies!! Week One is almost over.
hey guys, i'm not in the group, just following along..
i just wanted to chime in for tlc0219 because i used to get blisters all the time. what helps me out when i have a blister, is blister blocker cushions by band-aid brand.
http://www.amazon.com/Band-Aid-Blister-Block- Cushions-4-Count/dp/B000FELQC2
when i don't have a blister and don't WANT to have a blister, they have another product called blister blocker stick which you rub on the area that you usually get blisters and you typically don't.
http://www.amazon.com/Band-Aid-Activ-Flex-Bli ster-Block-0-34-Ounce/dp/B000UWS70I
another thing that has helped me in the past was to put shoe gels in your shoes.. the kind that are only for the heel. it lifted my heel up a tiny bit to make it harder for me to get a blister.
hope this info helps because i know how discouraging it can be to have a blister and to continue to get them!!
I just finished my second day of week one. I lost track of how many sets of jog/walk I did, so I think I accidentally did 12 instead of 8!! No wonder it was so much harder! I also ran for 90 seconds a couple of times instead of only 60. It really tired me out, but I think it will be good practice for week 2.
I felt so gross this morning after a very decadent dinner last night, but running this morning has helped me feel so much better. YAY!
On a side note, I wonder if there is some way I can do this program NOT IN PUBLIC!! When I got home today, I looked in the mirror and it was seriously frightening. My hair kept falling out of my hairties/clips, so I kept just stuffing it back in as I ran and it was all crazy and sticking out everywhere! Not to mention that my face was all beet red and sweaty. I am so jealous of girls that can look glmorous when they exercise. I look like a monster! But I guess the point is how exercising will make me look and feel over time, not immediately after. :)
Hah. Same here, but add to that my unstoppable lovehandle jiggle which keeps working my shorts up and down, and my screaming teething child "driving" his stroller steering wheel with his feet. We are quite a sight, to be sure....
Well, after a few weeks of pussyfooting around with about 1+ lb loss per week, I had a big weight drop over the weekend, 185 down to 182. As I mentioned, I wasn't feeling well Sunday, but have been eating normally the past few days, so thought I would see the weight go back up on Monday, but it didn't...
I went through a major fitness phase about ten years ago, and I remember this happening to me then, too. I lose very slowly for a while, then PLUNK, I drop down three pounds seemingly overnight.
Bodies are so weird.
Hi Lulufit~ i am using the treadmill at 4.1 / 4.2 to run and 3.8 / 3.9 to walk. you are right, when i think about it, i didn't even burn off enough calories to cover that tablespoon of peanut butter i shoved it my mouth! oh well. i will do my second day today. I am really excited about sticking with this challange.
thanks for getting us started!
Day 2 Week 1 completed! Oh yeah. Today it seemed alot harder. The first jogging segment I had the thought flash thru my mind that "I can't do this" but I kept going and I did it. Know I keep thinking that I won't ever be able to make it thru week two. I guess I don't really have to worry about that yet, though! Not until next week. I am not going to weigh in until next monday. I really don't know what it is going to say, but I have been doing pretty well on my healthy eating. Of course, the weekends are always a bit more of a challenge.
Sorry to hear about your blister issues, TLC. Hope it gets better. That really sucks to have to work thru that, but you are doing it! Yeah you!
tank, great job on the weight loss. That is really exciting.
I look a mess when I am working out too. Thats why I am glad I can do it inside on the treadmill! Great job everyone.
**edit** Oh yeah, it said I burned 109 calories and totalled a distance of 1.3. Thats not totally accurate because I had a few problems with the treadmill so I had to turn it on and off, so I lost some of my calories and distance. I just like to have a general idea.
Hi All!
So I did my second day of week two today, it went well, but for some reason seemed a lot harder. Maybe it is because I was hours away from starting my period! I am still really excited about C25K, but today has been a hard one. I am pretty much on the verge of tears, without really having anything wrong. I think I probably need to eat more. I had a pretty good breakfast, but i just entered my lunch salad, and I am still not even to 400 cals for the day! Anyway, sorry for the bummer post. Hopefully everyone else is doing better than me!!Ha Ha!
On a more positive note, I'm down another pound. Now I'm 219.5 and really motivated to get that first digit to change!
**edit... Just got off the treadmill, so that makes it 3X for week one. Will do it again on Friday. Why do I dread getting on the treadmill when I feel so good by the end? Went 1.7 miles and treadmill said burned 250 calories. Seems a bit high compared to what others have been saying. Found a really interesting article that shows how much you burn based on body weight. From that info says I burned about 150 cals.
Here's the link:

Look forward to hearing from everybody again Friday.
I just wanted to say how impressed I am with all of us. I am so proud to be doing this and so pleased to being doing it along with you ladies :)
Tankerraid- congrats on the loss!
Lulufit- I empathize with feeling like I can't do it and worrying about next week. But we *are* doing it, so good for us proving that little voice in our heads wrong!
Sarahjo36- sorry you are having a bummer of a day. How awesome that you still did C25K, though! I hope you are feeling better now.
Also, I just found out that there is a 5K happening near where I live the DAY we finish the program!! That has GOT to be a sign that this is what I am supposed to be doing right now! I think I should sign up for it - then I would be really committed!
I am impressed too! We are Fabulous!
And for those of you who haven't posted.....its not too late! Don't give up! We have a repeat of week one built into this time frame, so you can catch up. Let's do this together.
*****EDIT For those of us who have been doing this, are you going to repeat week one, or do you feel prepared to move on to week 2?I just want to be on the same page as everyone else.
Next week I can repeat week one or move on so whatever you want to do let me know.
As for everything else I have been slacking in the food department. Some days are better than others. Yesterday could have been better. Well starting new today.
Good luck everyone!

Hmmm. I don't know. I, like everyone else, had a really hard time running yesterday doing W1D2. I vote for another week of W1, but that's just me. I think I'm a little scared.
Thanks for the congrats everyone. I felt pretty happy about it. But I've been the same weight for three days now. I have a feeling 1450 is NOT maintenance calorie intake for me, so it gets frustrating, losing in fits and starts. The big drops are the upsides. The stalling at one number for days is the downside.
On a totally unrelated note, do any of you more seasoned mothers have advice on how to deal with my son? He's 14 months, and has started pushing his boundaries like CRAZY... e.g., if I say no to him doing something, he looks right at me and keeps on doing it. He's so young he doesn't really "get" reprimands. I usually move him away from whatever he is fiddling with that can crush/smash/burn/electrocute/choke him, and the inevitable screaming meltdown follows. I can deal with that, I just don't like feeling like he is becoming a total spoiled brat, even though I know that he is just being a toddler.

My vote is to repeat week one because I also had a hard time with it. I always feel like everyone is doing better than I am though, so I wanted to give the option.
Tank.....there is not a whole lot you can do. It sounds like you are doing the right thing, to just move him away and to distract him. I know at that age, and forever after, it seems like all you do is say "No!" Don't do that! Thats part of it all. When I have days like that I also try to make sure I point out some positve things too, so that they just don't hear me yelling at them all day long. As far as being a spoiled brat, isn't that every kid? They just go thru that phase. Sweet one minute monster the next. You just get thru it and try to focus on the positive. Good luck!
My youngest is 2, she is very stubborn, always wanting to do things her way and in her time. I use time out for her, I've done this for a while. Even as young as 14 months. I wouldn't say keep him in time out for 10 minutes, but 1 minute for every year they are is what I think is standard. I know they use this in the daycare my kids go to during the school year. Find a place away from everything. I use the steps or one of the chairs in my rec room and make sure the tv is off or not on a kids show. Hope this helps.
