Welcome Couch to 5kers Group(now closed)
As Jenn summed it up so nicely........here it is............
We will be doing Couch to 5K, starting August 4th, ending the week of October 6th. We will be doing the first week TWICE to help us get started, thereby making a nine week program last ten weeks.
We will be weighing in on Mondays, with an optional weigh-in on Friday for those who want to.
Everyone will be doing the platform of their choice (elliptical, treadmill, street) and will choose their own days on which to run, due to varying schedules."
Here is the group...

Well, I think I am going to go on to week 2, if that's okay. Not because I am breezing through it (obviously!!) but because I really want to finish the program on schedule so I can run an actual 5K on October 12th, so I want to "save" the bumper week for when I really *really* need it (I'm thinking around week 6...)
Does that work?
Sounds good. You can be our preview person and let us know how bad its gonna be! So for the rest of us (whomever chooses) we will repeat week 1.
See you tomorrow!
Hi Everyone,
Sorry I've been sick earlier this week so I missed my first run! I did get out today and I was still not feeling 100%. It was hard! I will be definitely repeating next week. I downloaded the podcasts and went to track. I figure it would be easier on my joints and I'm not really ready to jog on the streets in front of everyone!
My stats are:
CW 216
GW 150
I will be jogging again on Saturday!
Jenn
i didn't get to run today, but i will definately be getting out there tomorow... talk to you all then.
Well, day 3 was easier than day 2, thank goodness!
Weight today=128.5
I didn't weigh in yet, I'll post when I do. I don't think I have dropped any weight b/c my eating has not been the best.
Is everyone staying on week one or moving to week 2. I think I might try week two and if I feel like I have to move to week one.
*Edit* I got on the scale it said 189.5, so that would be down 1 lb. I am not going by that b/c my official weigh in is Monday
Just finished day 3. It was harder to me. I just kept saying "I can do it!". I will be repeating week one, just because I think i need to build up. I don't want to feel like I can't do it. I might try an interval of week 2, just to see. And if I feel I can do it, then i will. But I am thinking I will end up on week 1 again. And thats ok, because I know we built in a repeat week for that very reason! I am so proud of all of us. Way to go!
I'm not going to weigh in until Monday. I found the key to my treadmill so I used mine today instead of going all the way over to my moms. It was TERRIBLE. I forgot how old and ancient it is. The belt kept sticking, so I had to hold on for dear life the entire time. I almost fell off about three times. It really was kind of scary, no exaggeration! Time for a new one! And my earbuds...I have nice bose ones, they never gave me a problem before, but when i jog and sweat, they keep slipping right out! I'll have to try to find the old fashioned kind.
Good job everyone! I can't believe the first week is almost up. For me, at least. Have my third run of the week today, in about half an hour, once the son is finished watching Caillou. Hah. Everyone should be really proud of themselves. I think getting started is half the battle.
I weighed in today at 181.8, down two pounds in a few days, which is a little fast for me. I am thinking I may have to up my calories from 1450, at least on running days. I have been really hungry! Luckily I did alot of grocery shopping this week, so I had alot of healthy snacks on hand.
Thanks to everyone for the advice regarding dealing with my son. I am going to try some of the things you suggested. lulu, I do feel like I am telling him NO all day long, which is hard. I get sick of saying it. And yes, you captured it perfectly... sweet one minute, monster the next! I find myself saying "If you weren't so cute...." alot.
tlc, I would love to try a time out. The only place I can think of where he wouldn't decide to leap off or crawl away would be the crib, but I don't know if it is good to make his crib where he goes when he does something wrong (?). What do you think?
Okey dokey, gotta motor off to my run now. Take care all!

I weighed in today at 218.5. That's two pounds gone since I started running and 6 since July 11th when I was finally brave enough to step on the scale. I'd lost some before then too, but not sure how much. Went shopping yesterday and I was a size smaller than last time I went shopping. A good feeling. Also bought one motivational top from the regular side of the store. It's a bit tight now, but want to wear it by the end of summer.
I think we should all be very proud of ourselves. Thanks to everyone here. I don't think I would be motivated to do this if I didn't have accountability to the group. Go us!
Good job to all~~
i feel very Blessed to have a wonderful group of supporters. Kind of like our own little Virtual marathon! i love it. i did weigh this morningm being the scale slave that i am. i was 152.6. so i dropped a few. i didn't get to run last night so i did my favorite jari love dvd. i hope to run today, but if not, i will get some exercise one way or another. i do love the running and am looking forward to getting back to the gym Monday.
Tank, my daughter would always get up and try and go back to playing. I would just have to keep sticking her back into time out. Eventually she realized if she justs sits the first time time goes by a lot faster. I wouldn't use his crib though. I think a lot of people say that makes the kids think that bed time is a punishment. Good luck with him, you'll be fine, so will he. You'll figure what works for you.
Monday will be here faster than I want!
Sorry for the intrusion, but I just wanted to give you guys some extra encouragement. I am on Week 3 of C25K (had to redo week 3 for various reasons) and I think it's going to work. I can already run longer when I'm on an off day. I've had a lot of people tell me how great it is and I just wanted to wish you all good luck!
Hey all!
Did my 3rd day today, and it went great! I am feelling much better than I was on Wed.! I have been trying to decide if I should do week 1 again or move on, and I think I will go on to week2. The intervals are not that much longer, and that way I can repeat a week later if I need to!
Good job everyone! I'm so happy to be a part of this group! It is great to know that you are all out there, it keeps me going strong!
Hi ladies! I've been thinking of doing this program for a little while now and saw that you guys just started. I just did my first run tonight of week one with podrunner intervals and it wasnt nearly as bad as I thought it was going to be. I know it says your group is closed, but might you have room for one more? I'd love to have some support to go through this with.. ..
my stats..
34, married, 4 kids, 5'4"
SW 186 (When i started CC end of April, probably closer to 200 over the winter, but didnt have a scale then)
CW 167.8
GW 123.. we'll see.. not so concerned about #, want to be healthy and fit!
Welcome Wendy! I think the second and third session get harder! I am going to see if I can start week 2 tomorrow, but will probably end up repeating week one. Don't want to do too much too soon and set myself up for failure! Anyway, my knees are hurting today. I never got a chance to get new shoes, so I think I'll have to go and do that this week. I asked for some advice on the 30's group because I know there are a few runners there who might have some suggestions.
Looking forward to hearing how it goes for everyone this week. I am a little concerned about it. Fridays workout was really hard for me and I just had to keep telling myself "I can do it!". And I did it. I just don't know if I can do MORE, I can hardly make it thru the 60 seconds of jogging. Guess we'll see.
Thanks lulu! I havent decided yet whether to repeat week 1 or not yet. I've done 2 runs so far, and it wasnt terrible, but I too dont want to push too hard and end up hurting. Have you tried any of the podcasts? I find it to be tremendously helpful.. focus on the beat of the music and run with it, and keeps track of the walking and running for you, so you dont have to watch a clock or stopwatch. I just love it!
As far as shoes, you defineately need good ones.. all the runners will tell you to go to a 'professional' store and get a 'professional' fitting.. the thing is, i have no idea where this type of store is or where to look to find it. If you know of a store like this, I would defineately start out there..I just ended up going to Famous Footwear and trying on a bunch.. I have very wide feet so it really narrows my selection. I ended up buying a pair of New Balance- wide width of course- but they are very comfortable.. I suppose you can only get so much help with this because everyones feet are different..If you google 'running shoes' or 'athletic shoes' you will come up with some sites that explain about the different features of shoes and how to determine what you need..Now is probably a good time to go shopping for the shoes, with the back-to-school sales and all.. Good luck!
Week one is complete. The last run was a lot easier. It felt good. Starting week 2 Tuesday.
Lulu, I was able to get new shoes on Tuesday. It made a huge difference. Although I still have the blister (actually a blister on a blister). I'm hoping it won't be too bad tomorrow. I bought the blister bandaids and some larger ones. I will be padding it tomorrow.
Welcome Wendy!!
Good luck to everyone this week.
Might have to do W2 twice. Didn't eat great on the weekend, but I wasn't horrible. We'll see what the weigh in tomorrow says.
Good luck to everyone... we can do this.
Happy Monday everyone!
Here's my weigh-in:
SW: 190
CW: 181.2 (down 2.6 lbs from last Monday!)
GW: 150
I'll be doing my run later today. I am running MWF, and found Friday to be really really hard, but I was just kind of dragging that day. Hopefully today will be energizing and all that, to get me back into the groove!
I've also been watching the Olympics, and went to bed daydreaming about being a world-class athlete (hah!), so perhaps that will help.
Hope everyone has great runs this week. I'll chime in later with a report on my run today. Week one is down and objects in motion tend to stay in motion, so I think we're good to go!
