OK... i like structure so

1. History with weight loss:  was active as a kid (judo from 6-16 yrs old), gained weight slowly after i quit ( due to knee injury), did ww for a while, arobics... started at the gym w/ a friend 3 summers ago, back to judo with daughter 2 summers ago,  knee surgery, started counting calories jan 08 ( had peaked at the site previously)  seriously back to judo this spring and summer.  Highest weight: 182, current weight:137, competitive weight as a teen:125-130, CC goal:119.5 ( i can't even imagine.)

2. History with Calorie Count: Kind of already covered that.  i like structure but i don't read ahead.  started counting this jan.  love it.  go through dependancy cycles with it.
3. Reason for joining this group: um... l like hiking?  actually, i live in northern ca, and if there are others with ideas about good hiking ( i have some) or ideas about activities/equipment/calorie burn/ locations/ whatever i would love to know.
4. Some interesting details about yourself, such as your job, your family, your pets and your interests:  Play judo.  one sport girl unfortunatly.  Married, 1 daughter, 1 dog, 1 cat, 1 hampster, 1 fish.  well, hampster and fish are technically daughter's. i work for the state.  desk job.

1. i was 200+ pounds before i started snowshoeing as physiotherapy.
2. meh
3. i like hiking. a lot.
4. everyone is interesting so; my cat is 16 years old and enjoys chewing elastics, nailfiles and pipe cleaners.

have some wonderful photos from the last hike, but the only cameras there belonged to a group from the usa. will be uploading them soon enough.

I joined CC+ two months ago.  I am about 50 lbs overweight and have been seriously overweight for about 20 years.  I had anorexic tendencies in my twenties and got very sick and was hospitalized.  It was a terrible experience that I don't want to repeat.

I am a certified guide for the Kumano Kodo ancient pilgrimage route in Japan that was made a World Heritage site four years ago.  Undoubtably, I am always the fattest person on the trail.  But, through real persistence, I have lost about 20 lbs since I started walking and hiking the trails.  I love walking and hiking.  Now, my husband and I are ready to add mountain climbing to our interests.  It takes a high level of fitness to climb mountains, so I have been training to run using the couch potato to 5K running training program off of this site.

I own an English school in Japan.  It keeps me busy, but it is interesting work.  My husband (Japanese guy) helps me a bit.  We have four kids and seven grandkids.  Half of my family lives in the States and half lives in Japan.  I'm interested in all kinds of things; reading, traveling, cooking, computers, taking pictures...

I want to run in a marathon before I turn 61 years old.  I have three years to achieve that goal, and I am finally making progress thanks to everybody's support and caring on CC+.

1. History with weight loss:  Was 196, now I weight 164.5, digital scale :)
2. History with Calorie Count: I have been a member for about 1 year, love the technology!
3. Reason for joining this group: I love to hike, go on at least a short hike just about every weekend.
4. Some interesting details about yourself, such as your job, your family, your pets and your interests: I am a special needs teacher with 4 children, I have 5 dogs, mostly bassetts (they don't hike with me).  My interest include reading, genealogy, and just hanging out being lazy.

1.  Well, I gradually gained weight through my teen years, but joining CC marked my first serious attempt to lose (right around the time I realized I'd gone from the high end of a healthy BMI into the overweight range).  I lost 10 pounds in my first two months, then didn't count all summer and gained a few of them back.  Now that I'm back at school and things are a bit more settled, I'm ready to start losing again

2.  See above

3.  Always been into outdoor activities - hiking, rock climbing, spelunking, and especially backpacking.  Unfortunately, I have four more years in a college town that has limited offerings in those areas.

4.  I'm a veterinary student and have one dog, a crazy border collie.  I'm hoping to go into wildlife conservation and spent this past summer doing field research in the mountains in far northern California.  My job basically consisted of hiking off-trail on some of the most difficult (but pretty!) terrain I've been on, setting up equipment to record animal tracks, and then monitoring it.  Lots of quality time in the great outdoors!

Wow, some really interesting lives posted!  I am a 30yr old Canadian and live in New Zealand.  A solo mom with a 10 year old daughter, I work part time and studying at university double major english/history to be a secondary school teacher - which is age 13 - 17..

Used to be a fitness freak when I got pregnant all those years ago.. and then tried to stay with it but life sidetracked me a bit and I gradually gained weight.  I have since been up and down with trying different diets and not sticking to anything..!  Am currently at my hightest 180 lb - I am 5 ft 7.  My goal is 148 lb.  I am naturally heavy and curvy.  When I was 142 lb I had 11% body fat!

I absolutely love hiking.  I am moving in 5 weeks near a really good track which I plan to make the most of.  When I am in the bush I can't help but run I get so much energy!  N.Z is kinda tropical and where I live the mountains are about 4 hours away but we have a place called 'snow planet' near where I'm moving so I plan to also practice a bit there snowboarding before next winter.

I have a dog whom I love but have to give away due to move.  I'm really sad about that.  I've had her 4 years and she was a rescue dog so she has come a long way.  Devastated to have to find a home for her but where I'm moving already has 2 dogs and I plan to travel in about a year. .

Well, that's enough from me!!  Sorry for the novel.. got a bit carried awayEmbarassed

Hi all!

1. History with weight loss:
I have been working on losing weight since April of 2007, have lost 85 pounds and have about 125 left to go. More info is in my profile if interested :)

2. History with Calorie Count:
I joined in May 2007.

3. Reason for joining this group:
Hiking is my preferred exercise! I love hiking and I can do it when I have no motivation to do anything else. I have a high threhold for pain where hiking is concerned. I used to backpack when I was younger but it has been a while and I am really wanting to get into that again. I love having everything I need with me and getting back to simplicity.

4. Some interesting details about yourself, such as your job, your family, your pets and your interests:
I am a wildlife biologist & PhD student, trying to balance my busy life with a healthy lifestyle. In addition to hiking, I also enjoy kayaking and reading. I have a dog and seven (yes, seven) cats.

Nice to meet you all!

Basically around April 2007 I decided I wanted to lose weight and become healthier so I searched the internet for places to help me and luckily ran across Calorie Count and ever since then it has helped me lose weight.  I use to weigh upwards of 295 pounds and now I am down to 229.

I joined this group basically because I enjoy hiking and being outdoors.  Some interesting facts about me.  Well I would say one thing would be is that I enjoy making Halloween Props, I have been working on them more and more lately, anyone interested in seeing a few I made, just let me know and I will show you some pictures.

Hello, hello I just now found this group, hopefully it'll give me some ideas ;)  Anyways, I'm 22 and a born-and-raised Colorado girl (hence the love of hiking and climbing) :)

1. History with weight loss: I've never been overweight.  Not by any more than 5-10 lbs at least.  But I've always had strange eating habits/disorders.  Right now I think I'm at where I want, maybe a little too thin right now, but I'm extremely muscular for being so petite.  This is from a very emotional summer and beginning to run.  I'm around 115 now and I don't really care how much I weigh as long as I'm strong and can climb mountains.
2. History with Calorie Count: Joined up this spring because I wanted to know how many cals were in a certain food.  I realized that this was a MUCH better way to count not only calories, but fat, fiber, etc.  And there was no paper trail lol (the last thing I would want my bf or someone to find would be my former food journal)
3. Reason for joining this group:  I want hiking buddies!  And also new trails and tips and all that kinda stuff.  Just to be around like-minded people.
4. Some interesting details about yourself, such as your job, your family, your pets and your interests: I have a boyfriend who got me into climbing recently, it's an amazing thing to do with someone you love.  So basically climbing, hiking, and snowboarding are my favorite things to do athletics-wise.  Besides dancing that is ;)  I have a Chihuahua.

Hello Hikers!

My name is Jennifer and I live with my wonderful boyfriend in Somerville.  I also joined the Boston group and the Depression group...so I apologize if this post is repetitive and boring to anyone in those other groups.

1. History with weight loss: I have had ups and downs with weight over my 32 years.  I've been within a 20 pound range (from about 140 to 160) that I've gained and lost several times for about 10 years.  Recently however I am seeing the range creep up and up to 170, 175 (I'm 5'5") and I'm not happy about it.  I'm also conscious of my slowing metabolism and really really want to give myself good habits and good motivations before it's too late...

2. History with Calorie Count: I previously used Self.com and Weight Watchers online.  With both sites I found that I was always coming to Calorie Count to get nutrition facts.  When I saw they started CC plus, I canceled my WW and joined.

3. Reason for joining this group:  I'm really new to hiking - I've done just one this year and one last year.  I want to do more and I want to hear more about other people's experiences.  I also want to create good habits and good motivators that get me excited about exercising (as opposed to just grinding through a workout).

4. Interesting details:  I love to eat and read and cook.  I have a big-ish family and most of them are in Mass and NJ.  I am an accountant for non-profit organizations (but before this I was a massage therapist and before that I was a stage manager).  I visit cuteoverload.com every day and I think it does wonders for my mental health!

Thanks for reading!!  I look forward to meeting new people here!

I've been heavy since jr. high school.  About 5 years ago I reached my heaviest of around 300lbs.  I went on a doctor supervised diet (along with my wife) and reached about 225. I was looking good and feeling good, but over the last few years, between stress and medical problems I put about 30lbs back on.

Just really started using Calorie Count.  Joined to get motivation.  Trying to become obsessive about checking my calories, what I weigh, how much I exercise, etc.  Some might think the word "obsessive" bad, but I've found when I'm in that state I get to my goals.

Right now I'm trying to eat 1650 cals per day, with no more than 550 at one sitting.  Get in at least a 30 minute walk everyday, with hopefully more.  Weight Train at least 3 times per week.  This is my first week.  Wish me luck. ;-)

Hi, in my twenties, I tried alot of different diets to keep a moderate weight. As the years have crept up so has the weight.  I figure almost ten pounds for every decade.  Now, in my forties, I finding losing weight harder.

I stumbled upon CC so here I am.  I never did like counting calories but CC makes it look easy. Even if I just get a clearer picture of what I eat, that will help. CC has given me a different way to look at balancing my diet with exercise.

I also love to hike. I belong to a outdoor group and try to get out once a week for a day hike. I also love backcountry Mtn Biking. I just spent 2 weeks in Spokane and N.Idaho on loging roads and old railroad beds.  Most of my hiking is in Southwest Canada or Northwest Washington.

Sadley, I spend most of my week sitting at a desk. Like most, I wait for the weekend to have fun. My husband's passion is golf, so I usually hike with the club or I take my sister's yorkie "cruiser" (affectionaly known as"bear bait") for a local hike. We have two cats who live like royality. In 4 years, I hope to retire early and enjoy the energy that I still have.

Any ways, enough rambling...cheers

Hi,

I'm 52 this year and I have been seriously obese my entire adult life. I have finally reached the age where my weight has seriously affected how I feel and is interfering with things I want to do. I am married--no children. I enjoy animals and I have 2 German shepherds, 2 horses, and a cockatiel. We live on 5 acres in FL, so my horses live with me. Right now I am not riding my horses because of my weight and the way I feel.

I have had some successes with weight loss and have been in weight watchers, diet workshop. I have had my best successes with counting calories and walking. I found CC when I was looking for a program to count my daily intake and I have found it very helpful.

I love to walk in the country with my dogs and I have built up to 3-4 miles. I have a colleague who is a great mentor and we walk 2 miles daily at a course at work. This weekend my friend and I walked in a 5K for autism. I am a nurse practitioner, with a specialty in neurosurgery.

I'm 31 and new to the CC group. I have always wanted/tried to loose weight, but was never 100% dedicated to it. Previously I was more focused on being healthy and I exercised regularly. I find that when I'm toned and active, I don't really care if I am "skinny" or not. My goal is to get back into a size 6-8, with a flat mid section. Pretty reasonable right? Hee Hee....

Anyways, the last couple of years I have "let myself go" quite a bit and finally decide to get off my lazy butt and get back on track. Personally I hate the gym. And since I got sick of coordinating my schedule with kickboxing classes schedules, I ended up working out at home instead. Back home I use to do a lot of hiking, mountain biking, camping, etc with friends and family. Now that I moved to California, I have more reasons to be outdoors than before. So if anyone have any suggestions,or know any good hiking trails in LA/OC area, please let me know.

Just thought I say Hi to my fellow Canadians living abroad:)

In the past year I have gradually lost 12 lbs and hope to loose more. My favorite outdoor activity is going for walks, specifically in the woods. I grew up in the country so I don't feel comfortable unless I can look in at least one direction and see only trees. I grew up on a farm so I got a lot of room and opportunity to get exercise but since going to college and studying gets in the way of activity, well, I gained weight. I would like to get down to 145 lbs or less. Thats my goal.

Hi,

I have the yo yo diet. I lose, then I gain more than I lost. I am trying for the first time to count calories rather than go on a specific diet. It seems to be working as I have lost 4 pounds already in 6 weeks. I love to hike. I live in the Colorado Mountains so the hiking is phenomenal. However, I hate the cold and the snow. Do any of you have any suggestions how to keep up the exercise in the winter months? I can't afford to snow ski. The lift rates and the equipment are just too much.

History - history is past, I'm focusing on today and the future!  I just joined Calorie Count and am excited about using the tools and fourms.

I love to hike.  Not backpack, maybe someday, but walking in the woods for some part of a day, maybe with my dog, with my trekking poles, with my fungus book!  I want to try a virtual community of hikers to share this with since actual hikers are a little hard to find.  If anyone is near me and wants to hike, that would be great too.

Interesting facts will reveal themselves, along with the boring ones :)

Hello everyone,

First, I think everyone is doing a great job. Remember, there are no such things as failures, only results. I will start by sharing my favorite personal quote: "Never criticize yourself. You can always find someone else who is more than willing to do it for you".

At the beginning of 2007, I weighed 228 lbs. I was told that if I didn't make some changes in my lifestyle that I would be a prime candidate for a wide range of nasty ailments. Well, like a lot of people, I told myself that I would work on it later. The only problem with that is "later" never seemed to get here. Then, I received my first glucose meter and began tracking my blood sugars. Wow, what a motivator that became. It was the "slap in the face" I needed to actually "walk the walk" instead of just "talking the talk".

Currently, I am down to 192 LBS leaving me only 12 LBS from me goal. I feel so much more alive these days and the possibilities are now endless.

I just happened to visit the CC website while searching the Internet for some nutritional facts on cheeses. Once I looked it over, I knew right away that I wanted to join. It was if this site had been created specifically for me. I was hooked. This is my first day as a member and I must say, "I am impressed".

I've always loved the outdoors and nature. And living in Salt Lake City affords me an endless array of places to visit and explore. From hundreds of mountain trails to the desert sands, Utah is a hiker's paradise.

If I wake up feeling less than motivated, I need only look upon the beautiful Wasatch or Oquirr Mountains surrounding The Salt Lake Valley and my blood begins racing through my veins. Once the blood is up, it's time to grab the bike, hiking boots, skiis, or snowshoes and head on up.

I look forward to making new friends here. Together we can meet our goals and live much more fulfilling and healthier lives.

Best of luck to everyone,

euclid6400
