purpleldy,

I don't think you could do this at work, but I've found that one of the best workouts for me is playing Dance Dance Revolution on my PS2 (also available with other game stations). I have almost 0 foot-eye coordination moving at a certain pace, so not only do I work out, but I improve my coordination too! And to make it more challenging, hold a dumbell in each hand, then concentrate on moving both your arms and your feet. There's a workout setting on the game I have where you can set a goal of how many calories you want to burn. I love it because when I'm at birthday parties or eating for the holidays, the food is so good that I usually go over the calorie limit on this website, so when I want to burn it off, after taking a nap, I play the game. But if you do this, make sure you have plenty of water you can quickly grab. I'm the type of person that dehydrates easily (not sure how, but I do), so I have to have water or I'll quickly start feeling sick. Plus, all that movement makes me really thirsty, lol.

Hello,

I've always had a weight problem.  I also have custody of my granddaughter (5 yr old) Her parents have had problems with drugs.  So with the stress with that I have gained alot of weight.  About 3 years ago I shattered 2 bones in my ankel and was in a wheel chair I just started walking good this past summer.  So I put on even more weight.  So I decided its time for it to come off.

I like to do crafts and painting with my granddaughter.  I am a single parent so there never seems to be time to exercise ...although I know I need to make the time even if its only walking.

alabamamary, You know, the great thing about having a kid about that age in the household is that they LOVE interactive play...A LOT! Take advantage of that whenever you can! Your granddaughter wants to take off running? Don't stop her! Make a racing game out of it for as long as you can handle it! That's pretty much my source of exercise when I'm short on time, my 10-month old is so active, and she LOVES to be carried around, bounced, and thrown in the air (gently!).

thanks for the great advice sometimes you just have to get exercise where you can get it.

There are a lot of little things you can do that aren't all that obvious at first...but if you really think about everything you do, there are a lot of opportunities to increase the number of calories you burn. Keep in mind that because it's winter time, you burn more calories (yay!) because it's colder outside (when you are outside). With that said, here are some examples of little changes I've made.

1. I take the stairs instead of the elevator every chance I get.

2. I park a little further away from the entrance of where I'm going so I can get a longer walk here and there.

3. After Maddy goes to bed, I visit each room and do quick clean-up jobs, which is hidden exercise itself!

4. I have a good-sized kitchen, so I keep the pots and pans stored away from the stove, and same with utensils and such in the opposite direction of the countertops...so there's more walking and hopping around the kitchen when I'm cooking meals.

Those are just a few ideas...you'd be surprised of how many things you can come up with!

Hi, I have five children ages 16 to age 2. I made my own babyfood for my first three children. I got a little lazy with the last two. It is an extremely healthy and inexpensive option. You'll need to get a food mill for processing. Also, get a book with updated information with which foods are safe to use. I know that it wasn't recommended to use carrots when I was making it, but there is most likely new , updated information and reccomendations. A great person to ask is your pediatrician. I used to shop my local farmers market for fresh, organic, in season produce.

Not recommended to use carrots...for the food mill or for the age group? Carrots are fine through the food mill if they are steamed, or you can do a quick chop with a knife, and add either breastmilk or warm formula to help them push through the blade.

Hi I'm Jamie.  I'm 32 and a mother of 3:  A 5 Yr. old girl, 2 yr old and a 4 month old boy.  I just joined this group because My parents have been counting calories and have lost a lot of weight.  My mom just gave me all of her "Fat" Clothes.  GREAT!  Just what I want, nothing gets you going wanting to lose weight when your mom or Husband is thinner than you and this is true in both cases.

Anyway, I started my pregnancy at 145 which I thought was heavy at the time and now after my baby the scale has been stuck at 160 and I would love that 145 pds back that I used to think was so heavy for my 5'3" frame.

I actually love to workout and do about 3-5 times a week.  TURBO JAM is my favorite.  I'm actually a health freak too.  Along with being a Nutritional Herbalist however, I stress eat.  And making all my meals and snacks for my kids I tend to eat wayyyyy to much.

Ready to start, gain some friends and lose some weight.  Also, I'm a nursing mom, so I am eating for 2-got to eat right for my beautiful babe.  My b-day is in May and my goal is to weigh 130 for my party.

Hi I'm Ollo.  I'm 29 and have two kids.  A 5 yr old girl and 3 year old son.  I gained about  35-40 lbs when pregnant and it pretty much all came off at the one year mark.  I'm 5'7" and typically 125-130 lbs.  I guess I enjoyed myself too much after Christmas because I weighed myself the other day and I was 140 lbs.   I totally thought my scale was broken.  anyhow, so here I am.  wanting to lose 20 lbs.  Looking forward to ideas and advice.

Hi. I'm Erika. I am 28 years old and a mom to 3 girls, ages 9, 4 and 7 months. I have struggled with my weight most of my life. It started getting out of control in high school and after kids it has gotten worse. I am down 20 pounds from my highest weight. I thought it would be great to have a place I could be accountable for everything I ate and also a place to track my progress.  I have 100 pounds to lose, and writing that number makes my goal feel impossible! Wow 100 pounds! I have set small goals to help me along the way. My first goal is to way less than my husband! To reach that I need to lose 38 pounds. 38 seems a little less intimidating than 100! I go to Jazzersice class, although I did not go once in January. A good friend and I have recommited ourselves to start fresh on Monday and start going again. I look forward to the support and advice.

Hello,

My Name is Steve, I'm From Michigan originally and have been part of the US Military for the last 19 years and am turning 40 this year.  I have been overseas now for the past 5 years, 2 in Iraq, 2 In Madrid and now currently in Heidelberg, Germany.  I have not had too much problems with my weight until I hit 30.  I was 160-170 lbs until then and ever since have been gaining weight slowly.  I am now 215 as of 14 days ago when I started counting my calories and took a metabolic test to see where I stand on losing weight.  So far I've lost 6 lbs by counting my calories and increasing my exercise level by walking with my pedometer so I try to get 10,000 steps a day or more.  Not to mention the running I do in the military.  I've also started eating more healthy about 6 months ago because the Doc said I had high triglyceride levels and I am trying to stick around on this earth for my new Son and fiance who lives in Barcelona.  I joined the group I guess just to be able to talk to people since it is kind of taboo to be overweight in the military.  My interests are traveling, and watching movies and gaming.   I love paintball.  I have been living a sedentary lifestyle even though I'm in the military.  I go to work and when I come home I sit my butt on the couch and veg out.  My fiance is more active and now I'm trying to get more to.

Hi there,

My name is Rachel and I am 23 years old.  I am the proud parent to an 11 month old daughter and a stay at home mom.  I have been chunky my entire life.  I joined calorie count today and want to lose about 35 pounds.  Being pregnant and not having control of my weight really opened my eyes.  I don't want to be chubby anymore and I want to set a good example for my daughter and my husband (he was recently diagnosed with high blood pressure).  I think with some support I will stay motivated!

Hi everyone! I just joined Calorie Counter and am ready to meet some people. Let me tell you about myself.

I am 30 years old. I am married to firefighter. We had twins in March 2008. They are very active now and are so amazing. Life sure is busy with one-year old twins running around! I am active in my church and am a Special Education teacher at an elementary school.

I have always been somewhat overweight. I think that I have always worn plus-size clothing! I am ready to be smaller and healthier! I need motivation and I feel like this site would be a good place to get that. My motivation has rubbed off on my hubby who now wants to lose weight, too!

I would love to meet some people who have similiar needs or lifestyles as me.

Hi.  My name is Gina and I just started Calorie Counter.  My twins are 6 years old now, married and a working mom.  I was a size 7-9 throughout high school, and my twenties.  Then came the twins, marriage -- and the weight.  I can no longer blame the weight on being "baby fat" since my kids just turned 6!  It's time for me to get serious about losing weight.  I have 50 lbs to lose.  I'm a list person so I hope that logging in the food and activity helps keep me motivated.  I just went for my first walk around the neighborhood and it felt great (including climbing the steep hills).  Wish me luck and good luck to all of you!

Hi.  I am a twim mom myself and am loving life.  I applaud you for working toward weight loss while they are young.  Here I am starting when my twins are now 6!  Running after them does help keep active, but I figured out that excercising (time just for me) will help me be an even better mom to my Bary White twins (my first my last my everthing).

Hi, My name is Michelle I just started Calorie Counter. I have twins who will be 3 in October  I also have a 19 and 16 year old. I am very busy with the twins they are always on the go and then with the teenagers .  I have never had a problem with my weight  not even being pregnant with twins when I went to my six week check up I only had 8 pounds to lose.  When the twins were 3 months old I had to have Gallbladder surgery I gained 50 lbs ever since then I have been struggling with my weight.

I have 50 lbs to lose. I like keeping track of everything so I hope that logging in the food and activity helps keep me motivated. I just started walking with the twins and the jogging stroller I walk in the morning then at night not far but I am hoping to have the will power to keep going. So I am looking forward to being a part of this group and hope this will give me motivation.   ~Thanks
